i wont be upgrading because as others have said, the Air is already really really good. There are soe small issues in my mind, but the biggest reason i will not be upgrading is because i do not forsee thes upcoming updates changing the way i use my Air. As it stands, my air already does all those things beautifully.

With my 6+ now, my ipad wont be leaving the house too much so TouchID, while nice, is not a must have security feature. The screen is fantastic in my mind and a higher resolution, better viewing angles, or bringing the screen closer to the surface is something ill love at first, but then probably forget about.

I think the only thing that realllllllly would convince me to upgrade is an digitzer that supports accurate, pressure sensitive stylii natively. I work with design, photography, and love to draw and i dream of the day i can use my ipad to do all of those things without compromise or needing my macbook.

The 6 plus i could tell would change the way i use my phone and it has. I came from the 5 so I upgraded and love it.

Ill probably hold off until i think a new ipad does the same for me.

Then again, im an Apple junkie so toss that all out the window cause im sure ill find a way to convince myself to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

Ditto to the comments made here by others about the current Air being a terrific device as is. There is only so much they can do. I didn't upgrade my iPad 2 until the Air came out and I'm sure I'll wait a few more generations until I even consider upgrading again.

Of course, those that have older iPads or don't own one yet are certainly enthusiastic about it and they should be.

Of those things only the 2gb of ram interests me. On the other hand I will feel stupid buying an air 2 when the only reason I am upgrading is to get rid of the safari bug.

And that's why I don't think 2gb of ram will be the only change. There will be a package of changes to entice people to upgrade from the first Air.

Bear in mind that there is NOT conclusive evidence that an extra GB of ram will suddenly make safari a tabbed browsing monster. I haven't had any tab reload problems at all on my current Air and neither have many others.

Just saying....don't buy the new expecting a bonafide guarantee that safari will work better for you.

I'm upgrading but it's not really all that necessary as my 3 still runs quite good and does everything I need it to do. I wouldn't mind a lighter device but I would really like to have the lightning connector so I don't have to travel with 2 chargers.

It seems iPads are different than iPhones in that most people just don't need to upgrade them as often. Once I upgrade mine I probably won't upgrade again for a few years.

Its a good point and probably true. TouchID is a given, 2gb of ram should be there. Seems like a lot of good, but small-ish improvements. Is that enough?

What do you see the ipad air 2 realistically being?

IMHO opinion I think this is stemmed from a lack of leaks about it. Usually if there's new and exciting features rumored they receive tons of press and keep the rumor fire going. I think one of the biggest you mentioned would be the split screen multitasking, but no one's reported any code from any of the betas and usually something that big would have been included in one by now.

They DID discover split screen within iOS 8 code:
http://9to5mac.com/2014/06/11/heres-the-ipad-split-screen-app-mode-apple-is-working-on-in-ios-8-video/

The choppiness in video is only because it's being run in Xcode emulator. It doesn't represent what the smoothness would be running natively on an iPad.

NFC?
Better camera...
Better processor...

All I can think of right now..

I'm pretty excited for it. I'll be replacing my Air. Can't wait for Touch ID and hopefully the same official Apple white silicone case that I bought for my iPhone 6 will make its way to the iPad as well to match. Also I would more than welcome a thinner chasis, even if just by a few millimeters. It would be awesome if they could shave off at least 4mm to match the thickness of the iPhone 6 Plus.

While iPads have their uses, they're rather featureless, plain slabs of glass. Only the somewhat easily amused / entertained / bored individuals are likely to feel compelled to buy the latest which offers an extremely razor thin ROI.

Why is there a lack of enthusiasm? IPad Air 2 could be a major upgrade if there's an 8mp camera, Touch ID, Apple pay, slimmer design, retina hd, 2gb ram, split screen multi tasking, gold colour, 32gb base line model. I skipped ipad 4 when I had ipad 3 but this time is different.

Ipad air was mostly all about the new design but inside this will be one of the best.

It's sort of hard to spend $500-930 (before taxes, cases, screen protectors and AppleCare, and taxes on all of those) on a tablet and then get excited about doing it again one year later.

By that token, given that there's rarely anything in ANY announced Apple product (save for maybe the iPod touches) that makes it worth discarding the most recently previous product in favor of shelling out more money for the new one. I don't expect that to be different here.

It'll be cool, and I'm excited for the technological improvements that will be introduced in this next iPad Air and persist (and maybe be improved down the line) through to the iPad Air I eventually buy to replace this one. But I'm not looking to buy this next one as I just bought the current Air in January (and they tend to last a few years before they're so slow that an upgrade is in order). I'd imagine, I'm far from the only one in this boat.

I'm still digging my Air and it suites me fine. My use of the air is strictly web, email, e-books, video and reference apps. And now with my iPhone 6 plus the Air will be used even less.

The larger 12.9 iPad excites me due to it's larger viewable screen but that looks like it is being pushed back even further at this point.

Perhaps there are those saving their pennies and more excited for the Apple Watch to be available? I've ditched my watches long ago but I may have caught the bug for the watch and think it may been fun to explore and use.

Probably the lack of enthusiasm comes from the fact that the only features that almost always confirmed are touch IDs and A8 processor.

NFC is new technology for iPhone and based on last year experience (touch ID on iphone 5S), Apple wouldn't implement iphone's novelties in iPad.
Then again the memory for iPhone 6 is 1GB. People predict iPad won't have more memory than iPhone.

Tablets have a much longer life than phones because they're more niche use scenarios IMO.

I'm still using my ipad 1 with 256mb of ram. Mainly because it has 64gb of storage so I can put a lot of movies on it still. That's something that hasn't really gotten any upgrades which baffles me as to why nobody is complaining about it.

On top of that, I really only use my ipad for movies and videos in bed, and sometimes browsing the web (but admittedly that is harder to do nowadays). For anything else I just use my phone. I don't imagine I'll upgrade from my ipad 1 for at least another 2-3 years.

I mainly use my Air as a couch surfing device, so aside from more RAM (or fewer Safari reloads), and a higher resolution screen (which is probably only noticeable side-by-side), there's little else in the rumored feature list to be of any great benefit.

I sure as heck ain't gonna be pulling a 10" tablet out at the convenience store to pay for a pack of gum.

Not as a big deal to upgrade imho. IPad Air does everything I need

I just upgraded from an iPhone 5 to a 5S and just picked up an iPad Air (from profits of selling a iP6).

The 5S is much smoother than the Air. Air feels as choppy as my 5. :(

Still not going to upgrade anytime soon.

Already sold mine. There's enthusiasm here!

How much did you get it for it?

I'm considering selling my Air if the Air2 is worthy enough of an upgrade. Just painful because it seems as if the IPads have less residual value, more depreciation than iphones in general.

If the Air2 has thinner bezels (sides as well as top and bottom making them lighter), with 2GB of RAM (I'd love to be able to multitask) with more standard storage, then I'm in.

I'd bet the base model will stay at 16 GB, with the same increments as the iPhone 6, perhaps adding a 256 GB model. Which would prevent customers who always bought the 32GB model now settling for the lower margin base model.

I would love for a 256GB model!

If the Ipad Air 2 comes with A8 CPU and 2GB of RAM and and split sceen(multi window).

I might have to sell my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 in order to get the new Ipad Air 2 with 64GB of storage and it will be my 1st Ipad and want to last me for a least 2/3 years.

I heard the Ipad Apps are way miles better than the Android apps for Android tablets.

Looking forward what Apple are going to announce for the new Ipad Air 2 on the 16th!

Because there hasn't really been anything concrete, other than touch ID. In your list the only things I would care about are TouchID for things like 1Password and split screen multitasking. I think I've used my iPad camera about two times, and only because I had to take a picture of my iPhone...

The only thing that might make me excited for it is touch improvements - like touch sensitivity on the Apple watch. That would be cool and actually useful, but I doubt it is coming this year.
