Your reply about his video reminded me of this scene (1:59 in) On a more wakeful topic, I have been looking for new Mac apps to install on my new toy. :D

I'll take Sheldon explaining homeostasis over that clickbaity-crocodile tears-pseudo-apology any time! 😁

So what apps are you looking for?

Nothing in particular. I like looking for new shiny objects that keep my attention and save me a tech step or two and help me be even more nerdy. :D I haven't found any apps I haven't heard about before. You have any new shiny objects on your Mac?

Nothing special, really. My needs are quite basic - I need Office, including Teams (Apple silicon version, yay), and that's it.
Haven't had time to look for new shiny objects yet. But I'd like to. After all, there's a life after Office. I think.

Take a look at Alfred 5 is you want to be wowed with lots of shiny object ability. It is one of my favorite apps.

I will, thanks! I've heard a lot about it. I used a similar app back in the day, on my previous iMac.
On a related note, I'm a big fan of iStat Menus, I've had it for quite a while.

Ah. You are a numbers geek girl. :p That app has lots of things to get distracted by. I bought the app a good while back but, I haven't loaded it on my M2. I see there is a new version available.

“Best battery life this side of Texas. I'm getting over 10 hours consistently, in low power mode I may even reach 12 hours.”

Hmm… That sounds low!

When the M1 MBA came out, people were reporting up to twenty hours of battery life.

Even Apple states the M2 MBA's battery life as:

“Up to 15 hours wireless web

Up to 18 hours Apple TV app movie playback”

The M2 13” MacBook Pro is rated even higher:

”Up to 17 hours wireless web

Up to 20 hours Apple TV app movie playback”!

Maybe it's because Spotlight is still indexing your MBA or because you've testing it with all sorts of heavy-duty apps!

Any thoughts?
I always make use of notebookcheck.net reviews, they aren't going to sugar coat any aspect.

Specifically with battery performance

Battery Life

Due to the slightly higher power consumption, the measured battery life also turns out slightly worse than was the case with the basic model. However, the runtimes in the WLAN test and when playing videos are still very good if the display brightness is adjusted to 150 cd/m². At full brightness, the battery life is significantly shorter.
The comparison with the MacBook Pro 14 is interesting again here, since although the runtime is about one hour shorter at 150 cd/m², the MacBook Pro 14 lasts even slightly longer when adjusted to the full SDR brightness (which is comparable to that of the new MacBook Air M2). While the new Air M2 doesn't quite last for a full 6 hours in the WLAN test, the MacBook Pro 14 is able to last for 6.5 hours.

Battery Runtime
WiFi Websurfing (Safari 15.6) = 14h 44min
WiFi Websurfing max. Brightness (Safari 15.6) = 5h 58min
Big Buck Bunny H.264 1080p = 15h 46min

Here are some other reviews compare everything

Not really. Working on a 13" screen is simply too small for a notebook. The 16" is the superior Notebook as you don't miss not having an external display with you.

For this reason, Apple should release a 15" M3 MBA as 13" is simply way too small to work on.
Total BS. I’ve worked on a 13” display for years. It’s perfectly fine. You may prefer a larger or secondary display, but most people certainly don’t need one.

Can you give me the equation you use to calculate total value per $? I’d quite like to see that “objective” measurement.
I’m not the person you were replying to but it’s pretty basic, no? Take whatever spec you want to measure, measure it for both machines, and divide that by the cost of the machine. Pixels, nits, cores, geekbench points, hours of battery life, ports, whatever.

I think its a great laptop for sure. But my pick for the best ever is the 2015 15" MacBook Pro. An unbeatable workhorse in a perfectly sized laptop.
I have one and thought the same until I bought the M1 Pro 16. It takes the game to a new level.

I know a bit about tech and I say the M2 MacBook Air is a better notebook than the M1 Pro MacBook Pro. It's better for one reason, it is more portable which is kind of the hallmark of a notebook. I would concede that for many, the M1 Pro MBP is a better computer but not a better notebook for hardly anyone.
The 16 is just as portable. I don’t find the bag heavy at all. Now, if you are referring to working in a plane seat then I’ll give it to you.

it is quicker. What helps the m1 pro/max still feel very quick is the 120hz screen. Gives it that snapper feeling. but the m2 air is quicker side by side when doing those tasks

Well yes, that's why it's concerning that OP said they didn't notice a speed difference.

My favourite Apple laptop of all time was the Wallstreet PowerBook. Now, the MBA M2 has taken the crown.
I rate it top 3 of past 10 years. Equal with the M1 MBP16 Pro, 2015 15” MBP high spec and this M2 MBA with minimum 512hd and 16G ram. I think the 16s weakness is the Airs strength. The chassis design.

But my fave Apple laptop is still the clamshell key lime SE. The biggest weakness of that computer was the screen.

  • Thin and light beyond thin and light: this is effectively the thinnest and lightest laptop Apple has ever made (yes the smaller netbook MBA is an exception). I can't stress enough what this brings to the user experience.
But what about the 12 inch macbook? :(

12 inch Retina Macbook

  • Height: 0.14–0.52 inch (0.35–1.31 cm)
  • Width: 11.04 inches (28.05 cm)
  • Depth: 7.74 inches (19.65 cm)
  • Weight: 2.03 pounds (0.92 kg)

M2 MacBook Air
  • Height: 0.44 inch (1.13 cm)
  • Width: 11.97 inches (30.41 cm)
  • Depth: 8.46 inches (21.5 cm)
  • Weight: 2.7 pounds (1.24 kg

Are you seriously comparing the average thickness of M2 Air with 12" Macbook's thickest point and ignoring all the other dimensions ? Sorry to hurt your feelings but in terms of portability and overall volume, the M2 Air is way closer to M1 Air than to the ultimate travel machine, 12" MacBook.

It appears so. @1BadManVan's ability to evaluate is a little lacking.

The same way apple claims the m2 air is thinner then the m1. Feel free to sue them, let me how it goes

Yes but the context is that OP is saying the M2 Air is the thinnest and lightest laptop Apple has ever made. Except as @karen999 pointed out, it's certainly not the lightest and, in terms of average thickness, nor is it the thinnest.

You're being picky about the maximum thickness of the 12" MacBook and not considering the other factors (weight, average thickness) that go against OP's argument.

I'm surprised you needed this explaining to you.

It is not BS. Let's take Logic Pro for example. With the 13", you cannot see all plugins on 1 channel sometimes because the screen is literally too small for that. So you basically have to go to the mixer every single time to deal with this limitation.

Also some plugins eat up so much screen real estate, it is already problematic on a 16" display, let alone a 13" display.

It depends what you do on your laptop. I've worked on 13" for years too, no problem at all. In fact I find it more comfortable than using an external display.

But I don't do music or video editing. I run a company and that doesn't require much more than spreadsheets, a bit of work in a website editor and video calls/screen share recordings (for onboarding clients)

Not everyone works in Logic Pro. There are obviously certain apps or jobs where more screen real estate is actually 100% necessary, but they’re by far the minority.

You guys keep saying I missed the 12" MacBook. NO I DIDN'T. Re-read my original post - that is what I am referring to... I should have just said MacBook not MBA but that is what I meant:

"Thin and light beyond thin and light: this is effectively the thinnest and lightest laptop Apple has ever made (yes the smaller netbook MBA is an exception)."

Christ you're blaming us for interpreting "MBA" as the MacBook Air and not the 12" MacBook?

Blame yourself for calling it the wrong name. Go change it.
