Why would 9.7 Ipad pro have 2gb of ram?

Or 12.9" with old cameras?

$$$ and it not being a deal breaker for a lot of people

9.7Pro people transitioned from another 9.7, which had 2gb or less in all other cases
12.9 people dont really take photos in the wild,

lol. Apple does some bizarre chit. I had no idea the new touch ID wasn't on the new pro.

What in the world? They need to stop the nickel and dime gimmick where their products have different features for sizes. It's absurd. It will make you slowly lose your base who enjoys these products.

Still is, Apple is the mot popular and talked about and the most desired gadget company in the world !

Again you come here to get yourself embarrassed !! Why do you even read this ?? if you don't wanna subscribe to what is being discussed here !!

This is getting pathetic. Give it up and just don't buy the iPad. If you're thinking and arguing this much (recognizing your username from previous threads that were just as inane) about a $700 purchase you either can't afford it or need to re-prioritize how you spend your time. Pick one.

I am wondering how many guys have not opted or have not decided to buy the 9.7" iPad Pro because of not having second generation Touch ID ? Would that be and should that be any criteria at all ? Done guys are saying it didn't matter ? Does it make any difference people having both kind of devices with first generation and second generation Touch ID (guys having the iPhone 6 and 6S) can maybe say the real difference !

I have two 9.7 iPad Pros and could care less about it not having 2nd gen ID. I could not be more happy with mine. I do not use touch ID on my iPhone 6S+ so the 9.7 is way fast enough for me.:p

Another observation I have made about my usage habits.

With a smartphone, usage tends to be in frequent, short intervals. Someone texts you, you unlock your phone, reply, lock your phone. Rinse and repeat. In this context, a faster fingerprint sensor makes all the difference, because you are easily unlocking your phone hundreds of times a day.

With an ipad, my usage tends to be over a longer, continuous period of time. For example, I can be seated on my sofa. Safari and tweetbot open side by side, with YouTube playing in PIP mode (courtesy of the Protube app). And I can be doing this continuously for more than an hour on end (my iPad locks itself only after 10 minutes of inactivity, so I can get up to use the toilet or get a drink and return without it locking itself).

So in reality, I don't really unlock my iPad that often compared to my iPhone. Perhaps Apple realised the same thing, and felt the advantages of using a faster fingerprint sensor was very marginal on an iPad compared to a smartphone.

I am not saying that there isn't a difference, but I do feel that people are making this out to be a way bigger deal than it really is.

That's what I said, but "Magneto" simply ignored it and went troll. As expected ...

Still holding it out before taking the plunge ! Any thoughts ? Suggestions ?

you asked for suggestions, so here's mine. don't get it. if the iPad had anything you really wanted or needed you would be capable of weighing things out and making a decision by this point.

For all our sakes just embrace your rage over first gen Touch ID and no 3D Touch and skip the iPad.

Yeah but not including the second generation Touch ID is something Apple is surely underplaying ! Not fair !

Doesn't matter on a tablet where you don't need lightning fast unlocking like you do on a phone. Plus why should you care, you can't afford either a new phone or tablet. just because you can't afford new tech doesn't give you justification for hating on it all.

It's not a matter of fairness but whether you are getting a device which suits your needs at the end of the day.

Sure, all other things equal, I don't mind my Apple products having more specs than they currently do. Why wouldn't I say yes to say, 4gb of ram in my smaller iPad Pro, or faster Touch-ID or USB-3 port? But life is too short to be moaning over "what could have been". If you keep fretting over the little things, while missing the big picture, you may as well not buy anything, because there will always be a better tech product just around the corner.

Instead, simply evaluate the product Apple has put out on its own merit, and ask yourself - am I willing to pay for this?

For me, it has been an unequivocal yes. I use the iPad and Apple pencil every day in my job as a teacher, and at home for recreation, and performance has been phenomenal. Touch-ID has been great for unlocking 1password. Split-Screen is awesome for comparing notes side-by-side. But the Apple Pencil has made annotating on pdf documents a sublime experience, and this feature alone made the iPad Pro an auto-buy for me in my case.

I did not hold out on the 9.7 Pro because the 2nd gen Touch ID was omitted, hell I was'nt even aware:oops:. My Air 2 still does the trick fantastically & Touch ID is snappy enough , not an issue as I use my 6s+ for Apple Pay

.....This

As far as the 2 GB RAM, the pattern Apple has shown is that they upgrade RAM every 2 generations. People LOVED the upgrade to 1GB RAM on the iPad 4 dubbed, the "NEW iPad" .
That was the iPad 3. So last time it was 3 generations...or 2.5 :)

That little rant has not much if anything to do with the topic here. We are not having another silly "Apple is doomed" chat here.
I have devices with both a first generation and the later fingerprint sensor, in real life they have no advantage over another from what I see. YMMV.
I feel the same, infact my 6s+ has no noticeable speed increase from lock screen to home screen compared to my iPads.

Kal.

It is not a question of affording ? It is a question of buying a complete device which has good of all the worlds so is worth the investment, especially for someone who doesn't upgrade every year.

Oh it is a forum c'mon !! doesn't cost money, not for me atleast.

Profit margins and preventing it from cannibalizing sales of other models.

By omitting features, buyers must choose which product they want based on which features matter most to them.

Except:

1) Apple is on the record as saying it doesn't care about "cannibalization" as long as people are buying Apple products.

2) The iPP 9.7 is the flagship 10" model. It's competition is the 2 year old Air 2, also with the same Touch ID sensor. Typically the flagship model includes the most up to date bells and whistles. The iPP 9.7 is at about 90%.

So what exactly would the iPP 9.7 be cannibalizing if it had a Gen 2 Touch ID? Not the 13" model. That is an entirely different beast.

Personally the lack of Touch ID sensor does't bother me - the 1st gen works fine for the iPad's use. It's different on a phone because usually when you pull out a phone you need something 2 seconds ago. iPad is a bit more leisurely.

But I do wonder why they left out 3D touch and USB 3, esp. the latter. Updating and backing up could be snappier. I gladly would have sacrificed the upgraded camera and flash. I don't think the camera was the Air 2's (a great iPad) weak link. Apple missed there.

The lack of the 2nd Gen Touch ID sensor is the one thing that really irks me about the 9.7 Pro. (I'd still prefer a mechanical screen-rotation lock switch that I had on myiPad Air, but I can live without it.) The 1st Gen sensor simply does not work for me; it didn't on my iPhone 6, and doesn't on the 9.7 Pro. The 2nd Gen sensor on my iPhone 6s works flawlessly. It made my upgrade to the 6s worth it, and if the next 9.7 Pro adopts the 2nd Gen sensor, I'll upgrade to that if for no other reason than to make Touch ID usable. I get it that there's Apple's Keychain, and I probably could switch to 1Password to eliminate the need to enter passwords in many (but not all) cases, but using Touch ID on my iPhone 6s to unlock various apps that utilize it has been great, and I wish I could use it on the 9.7 Pro.

So you guys reckon the next 9.7" iPP will have everything ? 4GB RAM and the second generation Touch ID ?

Well, it probably won't have a headphone jack.

So if that's important, you'd be better with the current one.

Possibly. But by then, other devices could have other features that the 9.7 iPad doesn't get.
They almost certainly will. And the analysis paralysis will continue.

Faster locking unlocking ?

Personally, I find the locking/unlocking too fast on my 6S. Sounds weird, but I use it as a watch (I don't wear a watch) and when checking the time, I am always hitting the button out of habit with my thumb and it immediately unlocks. I'm getting better about using the index finger to avoid this but it is a little too fast.
