I've been trying to get the service working again on University of New Mexico's wifi network. I'm playing middle man between UNM and At&t, but getting no where. I've contacted the IT department and they are saying that they aren't blocking anything on any ports, so it can't be their end. I call At&t and they have been very helpful, checked all provisions and setting on their end, but have no resolution. Someone is preventing it from working now, but we can't find out where it is. The service used to work when I was on my iPhone 6 running the iOS 9 beta with Wifi-Calling. It's so frustrating, but the discussion here has given me things to talk to both parties about.

Does it work on other wifi networks?

So i have had no problem activating Wi-fi calling on my AT&T 6+.
I can make and receive wi-fi calls to landlines and to a 6, and to a android cell. But when my wife calls me or i call her on her 5S, with her on the AT&T network with full bars, it rings and we answer, then the phones disconnected and say failed call.

Whats up? shouldn't the 5S receive the call just like a landline or another brand cell phone

I have an issue when calling a 4s, 5, or 5s on AT&T. The call connects just fine and I can hear the caller, but they can't hear me.

It works fine with landlines, other VOIP phones, and Android phones.

I have a t-mobile 6S+ that I'm using on AT&T and previously couldn't use wifi calling (getting the oops call us message). Today I tried again and it worked so just letting everyone know

Using the latest 9.1 beta

What did att say when you called them?

They couldn't figure out why it was happening as everything looks to be setup properly on their end. I even messed with some UPnP and NAT settings on my Router, but no change.

I have a 6s Plus and the same thing happens when using my wife's 6s either calling or receiving a call from a 4s or 5s.

For now, Wifi calling is turned off due to this.

xfinitywifi blocks all VPN connections.
I learned today that Comcast's new, secure "XFINITY" (all caps) hot spots do support AT&T Wi-Fi calling. To use the secure hot spots, you'll have to download a security certificate to your iPhone from http://wifi.xfinity.com

They're still rolling out the secure hot spots, but eventually they should be available wherever the xfinitywifi hot spots are.

Are you already logged into the UNM WiFi network? I know sometimes you have to queue up a browser tab to get access.

Works in San Diego

Public wifi support has been all over the place. Works on AT&T wifi and Starbucks wifi, but xfinitywifi never works.

xfinitywifi blocks all VPN connections.
i even have radom connrction issues connecting to my vpn using my home comcast connection. connects 60% of the time.

Just throwing this out the but I have/use "XFINITY" ( Comcast ) as my cable and ISP ( ONLY Choice available where I live )

And have used VPN and Proxies just fine in the past.

Also I've use ATT WiFi Calling
100% fine since day 1 of the Beta whilst connected to my home XFINITY WiFi or others XFINITY WiFi sources

Also have successfully tested and used ATT WiFi at/on

Starbucks McDonalds
Google DunkinDonuts
ATT AppleStore
Verizon Cricket Store
T-Mobile

WiFi/WiFi HotSpots and even put to test something else someone on here tried of HotSpotting w/someone else TMO phone. Still worked lol

So what determines when the phone switches to Wi-Fi calling? I notice here at work, and even at home, I frequently see "AT&T Wi-Fi" on my phone when the cellular signal shows 3 or 4 dots.

The common running theory
( which seems to be looking like the most likely one )

Is the phone can always tell which signal is better/stronger and will gravitate ( prefer ) the stronger of the 2

I was just able to enable Wi-Fi calling on my T-Mobile iPhone 6S. I was getting an error up til today. I also got an email from att.

Can't enable with unlocked "T-mobile" iphone 6S. AT&T tech support confirmed it's not working for model 1688 but they are working on a fix. No estimated timeframe on when it'll be resolved.

Debating if i should go exchange for a "At&T" iphone 6s..

They finally got it activated in my area and love it!! The cell signal at my house sucked and was basically useless.
Now it is awesome and crystal clear.

Did have to call AT&T customer service but the tech had me going in about 20 minutes. Somehow someone forgot to put in some code when I turned in my 6 and got the 6s. Once he got that done and a couple of restarts later it was good to go. Finally have a cell usable at my house.

btw, I have xfinity internet as well and here it works great with wifi calling.

Still working with UNM campus IT to get Wifi-Calling to work on campus. They've tried several things like opening up firewalls and such, but nothing has worked so far. Does anyone else have any other information on how to get it to work. I'm hoping maybe some other network admin out there had the same problem and figured out what needed to be done.
Suggestions?

hmm... so I wonder if I can get rid of the Micro-Cell now....
I wonder about that.

So what happens when you have the AT&T MicroCell activated and then activate WiFi Calling? Anybody try this? Does the WiFi just over ride the MicroCell? Or do you have to unplug the MicroCell?

Microcell overrides wifi, as it shows up as higher signal, thus wifi doesn't enable. You would need to unplug the microcell if you want to use it over the wifi calling.

Yep and that was confirmed by AT&T by phone.

You can just unplug the MicroCell and enable WiFi calling and see how it works. If it doesn't just disable it again and plug the MicroCell back in. #NoBlood

keep in mind though, since the microcell doesn't support VoLTE, you won't have HD voice, and you won't have the seamless handoff like you would with WiFi calling. Even though your signal levels won't show 5 dots of service with WiFi calling, having that easy transition makes it worth it to me.

Well I've been using the MicroCell for about 3 years since cell service at my house is awful. It's been pretty darn good but I'd like to give the WiFi a shot .. maybe it's even better.
