I called AT&T last night and they indicated they would call me back today at 4pm pst to give me the port numbers and info. to get it to work. The 4500 UDP did not work, so far. Thanks for the info. I may just have to try a different router if I cannot find a way around the problem and hope its just this old ASUS RT-N56U router that is to blame. If anyone has any other ideas let me know as again I can use ATT WiFi calling at public wifi's but no at home and Time Warner swears it's not them but it is the router. If I get info. from AT&T how to get it to work, or some other port numbers or instructions I will update this later tonight. Thanks again!
Have you tried enabling VPN/IPSec passthrough? If I remember correctly, it's under Advanced/WAN in the DMZ tab on the Asus. Wifi calling uses IPSec to encrypt the traffic.

Would switching my 5S sim card to my 6S phone instead of using the new sim card that came with it result in this message?

Asus' own FAQ confirms that your memory is correct, and also states that the default for IPSec is disabled.
https://www.asus.com/support/faq/113049/

And just for fun, when I toggled IPSec passthrough off on my router, Wi-Fi calling broke, and started working again when I toggled it back on.

Likely. That's the situation I'm in and it doesn't work for me. The other reason could be that you don't have the AT&T version of the iPhone.

Just exchanged to the Sim Free unlocked iphone 6S and Wi-Fi calling works now.

Cool and congrats welcome to the WiFi calling club

For some reason there appears to be an issue with using AT&T WiFi calling with Optimum Online. I'm seeing this issue and was able to use WiFi calling while connected to another iPhone's hotspot, but not my home WiFi.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30343753-AT-T-WiFi-Calling-OOL

This answered a curiosity of mine namely if you could piggyback off of someone's phone as a hotspot for kicks or whatever other reasons lol

Per Time Warner Cable tech support it is a Router issue and I need to open specific port numbers in the ASUS Router. Howdo we determine the port numbers used by AT&T for this wifi calling?

1: not sure if I'd trust/believe em

2: I seem to recall different ports being mentioned not sure which ones are true but maybe 50 500 100 300 600 or 750
( lot of mixed info on this sorry if none of those help hopefully ATT or someone else gets back 2U if not )

You appear to be correct. I spoke with my Time Warner Cable Internet Tech support and they confirmed Time Warner is not blocking the ports or any ports so they felt fairly certain that it is my ASUS RT-N56U Routher that is blocking the port (s) needed for the AT&T WiFi calling to work on my home WiFi. I have opened my Router admin and now know how to open or forward ports, but I need to know the exact ports AT&T is using to enable WiFi calling. Does anybody know which ports or port numbers AT&T is using for WiFi calling?

Good luck again... :p

Does this affect the billing in a way?
No, well only to the extent that, if you have a limited number of minutes plan it still counts your minutes. Other than that no.

Well it's also worth noting WiFi calling/minutes/usage will appear in your online or ATT APP Differently

and on your bill differently and separately depending upon rather or not your have detailed billing on your account

Feature code online shows as
PVWIFI on the bill shows as just WIFI
it probably also lists it as a FREE Feature under your features on your bill statement now that this is no longer Beta

Yes this can be problematic among mandatory things needed for WFC to work you must:

1> Have HD Voice and or VoLTE Coverage in your area.

2> have those properly provisioned on your account/line of service this includes having a newer compatible up to date SIM Card
( most SIM's manufactured from Nov 14 to present ) registered correctly to your phone number, having an iPhone 6 6P 6S or 6SP registered to/used with your phone number

3> have compatible PostPaid service plan
( supposedly PrePaid NOT Eligible at present )

Once activated

4> Access to compatible WiFi Source in which the WiFi Signal is of stronger greater quality than your Cell/Network signal at any given time
( can be circumvented/forced by using Airplane mode )

5> ONLY Available/Usable in the US , USVI, Puerto Rico
( some have reported success using VPN or Proxy )

Is your phone saying "AT&T Wi-Fi" at the top?

In airplane mode with wifi on no. Wifi calling toggle is on and I called att to make sure my account was provisioned for HD calling. The CSR said it was set correctly and I should be good.

When you're in airplane mode with wifi turned on it should say "AT&T WiFi" at the top if it has activated. If not then there is something blocking the connection. Your router, your ISP or something else preventing your phone from connecting to the AT&T network, that's why it's not letting you make calls.

Nah, I did get the at&t version because of that other band at&t is going to be using going forward.. I had originally ordered a T-Mobile phone and I was just going to pay cash, but I found out it didn't have that specific band, so I cancelled that order.

at&t kind of screwed us with their new plans, I had always bought the 2 year contract, now I'm on this Next Plan.

Thank you for your reply. ISP is Time Warner and we have all their equipment from their modem to their router. From what I have read they are not blocking it. Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

So I just looked at our equipment. I don't think we have a router unless it is built into the Time Warner Modem box. It looks like a mini tower with phone ports, ethernet ports and usb ports. I can't find a name on the box. It has 2.4 gHz and 5 gHz. My account page from TW says it is a Technicolor MTA.

I do have a T-Mobile asus cell spot router, but that is not connected and has never been set up.

Just got off the phone with TWC. I do have an All-in-one modem/router. She said if I call ATT and get the specific ports that need to be opened on the router I can call back and TWC will adjust the settings on the router for me to get ATT wifi calling working.

The router is built into the modem. What you need to do is log into the admin pages for the router, you can check their documentation on how to do that, and see if any ports are blocked. Other posts here where people have had problems they've had to enable VPN/IPSec passthrough to get WiFi calling to work.

I'm going to have to switch ISPs to get this working, I think. I think I've spent about 8 hours on the phone with AT&T, Apple and my local ISP. I bought two new routers (Netgear 900 and AirPort Extreme) and it didn't work with either of them, so I think I have narrowed it down to my ISP as the cause, but they insist they aren't blocking it. It works fine for me on other networks. I went to my ISP today and tried it on two of their networks and it didn't work there.

Thanks big. I just talked to TWC and spent an hour on the phone with ATT. They are saying it is a known issue with the 6s+. I will check out your post above, I don't seem to have the username and PW to get into the router settings. It is not the generic ones on their chart and my user name and PW for TW is not working either. I will call it a nite for now. Thanks for all your replies. :)

So I just piggybacked my t-mobile cellspot router to the TimeWarner Modem/router and my wifi calling won't work thru that either. Other than wait for ATT to decide what the problem is, I'm stuck. Att couldn't tell me what port it needs either.

thats really odd. Try changing channels on the router. Not sure if that will work, but youve got nothing to lose. Keep us updated.
It's a local ISP in Utah that I've gone through since the mid-90s called Infowest. It's weird because VoIP and T-Mobile WiFi calling work fine on my network.

Is there a way to change channels on an AirPort Extreme router? I decided to keep the new AirPort Extreme that I set up yesterday. I was using an older model of the AirPort Extreme before this one. But WiFi Calling didn't work with the Netgear 900 that I tried yesterday, either. I know it's not my phone because WiFi calling works great on every other WiFi network I've tried on my 6s.

I can't get WiFi calling to work on my home WiFi network, but it works on other networks on my 6s. I have an AirPort Extreme. Is IPSec enabled by default on Apple routers? I checked and there is no setting for it. I know WiFi Calling is working for other people here with AirPort Extreme routers, so I don't think that's the problem. I think it is my ISP, but they said they don't block any ports. It's really interesting how AT&T WiFi Calling also doesn't work on any of their networks in their office. They let me test that yesterday. As soon as I go to a public WiFi hotspot or someone else's house, it immediately works, so it's definitely not my phone.

If you were actually at the ISP office and it still wouldn't work on their network there then it would be highly unlucky it's routers in two separate locations causing the same problem. The common thread is the ISP so they are blocking something. Either it's a port, or it's the VPN/IPSec passthrough. If there are other options for ISPs out there it might be worth trying. I have an Airport Extreme here and wifi calling works perfectly through it without me having to change any settings at all.

Sorry it's been such a pain for you. It sucks when things that should just work don't because of stupid issues like this.

So I got my AT&T 6plus working for WFC. I'm going to Europe this week. I realize that officially this doesn't support free international calling per AT&T doc, but why? Specifically if I want to call another USA line that is also on WFC calling over there, will it work with no charge?

You can just install VPN. I tried it and it works. Also there is a report here that somebody could call from Germany with VPN.
Frankly speaking Att $cks with international roaming, I have t-mo in addition to Att and must admit they grow very fast here in the USA. I live in LTE12 area, but we not have it yet. I think when they spread out lte 12 they smoke att. I travel a lot and if I have att only I have to "sell my last underware" to pay them. :) .

Can you be more specific about "install VPN"? I understand what purpose the VPN serves, but are you referring to a specific app that will accomplish that? I will be traveling with a Tep Wireless mobile hotspot while over there.
