Wait a bit, try again and if nothing I would suggest another call for assistance.Anyone else getting this message? I called AT&T and they said everything looked good on their end. View attachment 590820
It's not '0 load', involves a capital expenditure for AT&T and while your call is going over WiFi it is going through their switching network -- it's just getting there a different way. While it may lesson the load on AT&T's cellular network, it also allows customers to experience clear calls in areas where audio quality may be low, frequently dropped calls, or no calling at all. If this bothers you, shut it off. This isn't AT&T offering a low-rate VOIP service that >only< works over WiFi, they're enhancing your cellular service.
Some people have really good signals. If you are in an area the phone thinks is better on cell you will not see wifi on the top. Airplane mode is a test to force the phone onto the service so you can verify the feature. You don't need to turn on Airplane mode though. My phone Says AT&T Wifi with it Airplane mode off.

They will continue with towers because it makes sense to do so. The other providers, their biggest competitor, says they have no need for wifi calling and dont plan to offer the service. They will continue with tower roll out and so will other providers.*THEY* are enhancing your cellular service?
Um, no, *I* am enhancing THEIR hobbled service by using *MY* wi-fi network.
Enabling this service reduces their incentive to improve coverage - hey, wi-fi is becoming ubiquitous. You've got it at work, at school, at Starbucks, at your house...
Why should they add more towers when they can just ride on your wi-fi bandwidth?
Phone is further down the list, not at the top with the other services.Hmmm strangely it doesn't have a Phone setting. Its just WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular, etc. It's not under the Cellular tab either. I wonder if I need restore it or something.
Guess if you buy a car and you're expected to provide your own tires and build your own gas stations that's ok with you.Yes, your expectations and logic is completely ridiculous and absurd.
What kind of a phone do you have?Anyone else getting this message? I called AT&T and they said everything looked good on their end. View attachment 590820
Are you dialing with all 10 digits? It could be a "system thing" too, keep trying. It should work.
Hand-Off. The wifi to cell network relies on VoLTE for proper call hand-off to the network. Technically speaking, the 5S can make wifi calls but in this case the rollout was limited to only the phones that support the VoLTE service. VoLTE is voice over LTE, wifi calling is voice over wifi. Two data services that can work together to keep your call active as you more around. The experience of dropping a call everytime you move in and out of coverage on a 5S would be bad for the provider. I guess they could warn you but in this case it looks like they decided to just not offer it at all.Does anyone know why this won't work on say an iphone 5s? Disappointing.
Good luck, thanks for the update.Ive tried both ways. On chat w att now
Works with unlimited data plans as well.
Agree on being charged normal long distance rates when calling internationally is not right.
That is correct. Network first, then wifi.Got it to work and say AT&T Wi-Fi with airplane mode on and a test call worked. I believe if you have sufficient cell signal the call is always going to go through the network and not wifi
But it's a good way to test it if you're in an area with great cell reception.
I believe it does use HD Voice as if you leave a wifi area on a call the call won't drop of you are in a HD Voice market.WOW!!! I'm speechless... I can now use my phone at my desk where I don't have signal. The call quality is just plain amazing as it appears to be using HD Voice. One happier camper and glad that AT&T was able to flip it on so quickly after FCC Approval! I'm using iOS 9.0.2 w/ on iPhone 6s+.
