I've had all iphone versions and never felt comfortable or the need to jailbreak.
I am 100% doing it for this app!!!

You do realize that in order to use this app, you need to hit a button on your iTunes, and then hit a button on the phone to begin the sync. In the same time you do that, you could have just plugged the cable into the bottom of the phone.

Wireless syncing was done by the Zune first. Either that has something to do with the rejection (maybe patenting?), or Apple is going to implement this feature themselves.

Ah! Explains how that is working. Its a USB emulator like others have mentioned. This is not really wifi sync. Someone should update the front page article to be less confusing and less inflamitory.

After the initial setup, I had to click "Sync" in iTunes to get the thing to sync. This is no doubt because I have iTunes configured not to sync automatically, I will have to play around with it. I believe I saw a few others saying they had to click it as well? I wont add this as a "negative" until I play with it some more.

Just for completeness I enabled auto sync for the phone. Once you do the initial setup, you do not have to click anything within iTunes. As long as iTunes is running on the host machine, the app will trigger a sync as soon as its launched (well, more like 5-10s after its launched).

Its still, obviously, much slower then using the cable.

Only the first time it seems. And thats to pair the device with the app running on the host. After that, as long as iTunes is running and has auto-sync enabled for the device, it will automatically trigger a sync after launching the app on the phone.

Yet another reason to jailbreak. If you haven't hopped onto the train yet, then you should.

I'll use this once (for testing purposes), but that'll be it. I NEVER put my iPhone onto wifi.

Just by looking at the "Wi-Fi Sync.app" Mac-based installer (via Suspicious Package) I'd be hesitant on installing. What's the purpose of an app installing stuff into the private/var directory? Seems like the installer is a bit invasive in regards to where it wants to install stuff into.

Full wireless sync is kinda senseless, IMHO. You need something that only syncs changes... a partial, incremental calendar or contacts sync makes perfect sense, and these are already available. The only other useful thing I can see that this would enable is podcasts...

Or have I missed something else this would allow?

When a phone still can't do (official) Bluetooth file syncing in 2010, there's no way in hell that wireless syncing of iTunes content is gonna be allowed. Thank God for Cydia.

I would just like to be able to use Bluetooth to send a few photos here and there to my iPod without having to plug it into a computer and wait for iTunes to sync. Devices far inferior to the iPhone & iPod Touch do this with ease.

Poor Developer. he really worked hard for this app :(. fuc* steve and apple .
thats y i switched to android a year ago. i think its not their fault. they r in panic and scared from google and htc, so they are doing silly things.
i m enjoying droid and going to pre-order EVO 4G :)
good luck for the future fan boys.

When I saw this news this morning I jumped on Cydia and went ahead and purchased it. The dev has put alot of hard work and hours into this app. From what i've experienced he has a pretty good product. Yea, it is slower (not by much tho) than USB, but it's awesome finally seeing a true wireless sync.

Yea, I know all you wire junkies are all complaining that by the time it syncs you could be done with a wired connection, but it's the fact that it can be done. Maybe I don't wanna run back in my room to get my iPod when it's done syncing, i'd much rather have it in the living room.

If Apple allows the iPod 3,1 and 3GS/iPhone HD models to have 802.11n ability, this would greatly increase the transfer speed over wifi for this app. Though that'll prolly require an update killing the jailbreak.

I'm hoping for updates for this. It's a great start for functionality that Apple should have already. If they can pull off multi tasking keeping the same battery life, i'm sure they could do this.

Bet apple includes this in a future release of the OS. Maybe even OS4. That's probably why they rejected it. Pretty crappy of them.

I agree 100%. Steve will do his typical dog and pony show on stage about how their device, "changes the world" because of it's new handy dandy wireless sync feature. If they allowed this new app it would completely change things as those watching can say, "uhhh, there's an app for that". :D It's Apples way of CONTROLLING competition.

It's funny. Apple is considered such a progressive company.... yet they're about as un-progressive as any company in the history of this country with their control of everything. They run their company like China runs their country. I'm just really torn because I love their products so much. I pray there's a day that another manufacturer's products appeal to me more than Apple's and I can flip Mr Jobs the bird once and for all and move on. Until that day I'll forever be torn between products I love and a company I loathe.

Is it really that difficult to plug your joint with a USB to synch?

So you synch without any wire. Ok that's nice... Then just like wired synching you still sit there and "wait" and you still need a "computer".

Hmmm... Ohhhkay...

The optimism of so many iPhone users that this feature will be in 4.0 is so cute. Their disappointment will be hilarious.

This, and the Google Voice rejection is the prime example of why I moved to Android. I'll gladly deal with a slightly less polished experience to have an open experience where applications that meet the rules are accepted.

I know most fanboys are blinded by the shiny new gadgets, but Apple is acting more evil than Microsoft ever was at their peak of evilness. My grandma loves the iPhone, but she got her first computer two years ago and was impressed by the clock in the Windows taskbar. My tech savvy friends have moved on or will move on once their contracts end this summer.

Breaking the SDK Agreement

The replies should focus on how this company is so horrible for going against Apple wishes and allowing this on jailbroken iPhones.

Indeed, as what he has done is completely against the iPhone SDK agreement and likely good grounds for Apple to yank his dev keys and any apps from the store.

Or they're gonna say that wireless sync is reserved for 4G hardware only. The 4G iPhone would almost have to have wireless N, and in Apple's eyes that'd be the perfect time to introduce this feature.

Why is everyone here assuming that the dev is telling the truth? All we know about the rejection is what he was supposedly told by Apple. He could very easily (and intelligently) by lying in order to drum-up support for his jailbreak app.

Here's how I think it went down. He made an app that works but uses private APIs. He told the internet community (ie. us) that the app didn't break any rules but was really just hoping that it would sneak through. Then, when it was rejected from the app store for using private APIs, he tells us that the big bad Apple is stepping on the little guy and that we (conveniently) have the opportunity to pay him $10 for the jailbreak version.

I'm not saying this is definitely what happened, I'm just saying be a little more open-minded. You guys should know better than anyone not to believe anything you read on the 'net.
