(ordered the Cyber Acoustics cases the other day...)

my ipad 2 is due in a few days and i'm not sure i'm letting my wife any where near it, the way she drops things. she'll use my iphone to order food (because the number's in my contacts) and when she's done, toss it on the coffee table like it's an old shoe.

no respect!

Oh man......

I have finally become ok with letting my wife use my iPhone as show knows how bad I'll freak if she messes it up.

Haven't gotten the courage to let her run free with the iPad yet. She's kind of clumsy.

You should place a sticky that says

"wife said no."

They'll give u a new one

;)

Hey everyone,

My wife dropped our iPad2 64GB 3G this morning. Glass is broken and case is dented . I have an appointment at my local Apple Store this evening. I have an Apple Care warranty on the product, but, I highly doubt they will help me out.

Has anyone else had to replace the glass on their iPad2 yet? If so, how much did you have to pay?

iPad busted update...

I went to the Apple Store this evening and the tech Genius had me call Apple Care and plead my case. I did that, and Apple Care did not budge. They told me $419 for an "out of warranty" product claim. I went back into the Apple Store and spoke with the same Genius tech and he went to speak to his manager. He told me they would split the cost, and it would cost me $209 to do the swap, so I agreed....I was actually thrilled....then...he comes out with the new iPad and I go to give him my credit card and he says "don't worry about it. I got you covered"....I was blown away!!!!:D

This is where telling the truth pays off. If you had lied instead, they probably wouldn't have taken care of you, if for no other reason than they're not about to reward lying by making it profitable.

Broken iPad glass

 I read many of the posts here about Mac Stores being friendly to this tradgedy. Especially when I read that Mac often did a one time broken Glass replacement. I recently dropped and cracked the glass On my IPad2. Being that I am a very loyal Mac customer including 6 iPhones, 2 notebooks, 2 hard drive computers, and 2 IPads. I have never had any broken devices, or trouble with any of my phones, or computers. I also was told when I purchased my IPad that apple care Did Not Cover Broken Items. So I Did Not purchase Apple Care on my IPad like I did on all of my computers. I brought my IPad in hoping that they would replace the glass- with the many people who responded here with happy resolutions, or with the one time replacement glass I read others talking about.
I was very disappointed when they told me to replace the glass it would cost me $350/ and tax. Now- yes it is my fault that the item was dropped. But how could so many others have this taken care of while I was told it was going to cost more than 1/2 of my original price tag. Despite the broken glass- the Computer still works just fine- in fact I am using it right now as we speak. I could not even imagine spending another $350 to fix a product that doesn't even support things that play with a flash drive etc. Not to mention technology and it's ever changing revolutions. A new IPad will probably come out next week for all we know. I was also bummed out when the salesman in the store was telling me all these stories of how they covered the glass for so many people including a woman who was there and got a replacement then dropped that as she was putting it in her bag and then got that replaced too for FREE. What kind of Mac Rep tells me these stories as they are charging me $350- I found that rude and very insulting to my intelligence. He also told me I should have purchased Apple Care on this item- then it would of shown Apple some kind of commitment to my purchase and they may have covered it then. But my commitment to Mac- and all of the personal computers, phones etc that I have purchased should show this already- I left with a very different image of Mac and what their salespersons lack of respect showed me. I always talked highly of Mac and thought they cared about the Mac customer. I never thought they were the type of company that dismissed a loyal customer with It doesn't matter She will Be Back. But I won't be, and after many years I will not continue to purchase Mac Products. I knew dropping the glass was not Mac's fault- and I would have sucked it up and paid for the glass- but after all that I read from others, and especially after all the things the sales person said- I would never pay that money- just on Principle alone. Apperently I am just a fool who dropped an Ipad to Mac. But I do still believe in Customer Service when I am spending my hard earned money & therefore i need to make sure that you treat people with respect. So today I still have my $350- and will use that money to purchase something else- I have started looking and talking to others to see what is out there beyond the Mac world.

This just shows why apple is said has such a high customer satisfaction, and one of the bigger reasons of me spending the extra money on an apple product.

First of all you need to break up your long diatribe into a couple paragraphs .... it's impossible to read.

Secondly try again at another store but this time send your iPad in with a 20yr old girl with a tight low-cut tank-top and make sure the "genius" is the youngest there. You can't lose that way. Since they do bend the rules very often a little "advantage" can't hurt. Sounds sexist but unfortunately that's life.

>>6 iPhones, 2 notebooks, 2 hard drive computers, and 2 IPads

you're an apple owner for life, dude...you ain't switchin', stop the posturing & just admit it.

you're not the only person who got turned down.

Wouldn't fix mine

Don't count your chickens yet....

Just brought my ipad2 in today, with a broken glass corner, from dropping it. They would not budge and said it'd be $350 to fix. I even bought the apple care service, and it is not covered by that either.

Looks like they pick and choose who they'll help...apparently I wasn't one of those lucky ones.

While I'm glad some of you got your iPad fixed for free, it sets a bad precedence to randomly choose who you'll help.

Bla bla bla ... Ok listen up Mac doesn't make any phones or iPads Apple does, and If you sounded half as entitled to the genus as you do in the above incomplete paragraph then I wouldn't help you either.

LOL at minor scratches.:p:p

I know, right? No reference to the busted glass.

BTW, I heard Apple changed their "one time" replacement policy. Quite a bummer.

I have had the new iPad and Cyber Acoustics case since the "incident" and both my wife and 3yr old son use it on a daily basis and the iPad is still mint. I won an iPad 2 32GB from my employer and I intend on returning it for store credit to get the iPad3 whenever that decides to go on sale.

Apple has my loyalty, earlier this year I tripped and spilled water on the keyboard of my Macbook. The screen instantly went blank and the computer died.

I took it to Apple and the guy told me it was going to be $899 to fix and I was 20 days out of my 1 year warranty. I told him I might as well just buy a brand new one for that price. He went in back and came back and told me they weren't going to charge me anything! They had to replace the entire inside of the computer. They were super nice to me when I was freaking out so I will buy their products as long as they continue to treat me well.

I have my new iPad 64GB 3G, which my wife is not allowed near, until my Cyber Acoustics case arrives!!

I love Apple sometimes. Though the cynic in me says this amazing customer experience story that you tell to your friends and family is more effective than any ad campaign, the humanitarian in me thinks it was a great thing for them to do.

I hope you are delighted with your new iPad. :)

EDIT: sorry, I realise now this thread was resurrected randomly from last year. Still, it's a lovely story to read about.

I know of someone who dropped an Apple laptop, broke the glass, sent it for repair and was not charged. I intend to buy a 2 yr warranty for the Ipad2 that I am ordering this week .... I bouhgt as a anniversary present for my wife.

If you really love her, buy her a gift card for iPad 3. :)
