Great story, glad you got it sorted in the end :)

Apple's customer care has to be one of the best out there...it's sometimes worth the extra premium they charge!

Hey everyone,

My wife dropped our iPad2 64GB 3G this morning. Glass is broken and case is dented . I have an appointment at my local Apple Store this evening. I have an Apple Care warranty on the product, but, I highly doubt they will help me out.

Has anyone else had to replace the glass on their iPad2 yet? If so, how much did you have to pay?

Sorry to hear that. If my wife had dropped my iPad, I would kill her

iPad busted update...

I went to the Apple Store this evening and the tech Genius had me call Apple Care and plead my case. I did that, and Apple Care did not budge. They told me $419 for an "out of warranty" product claim. I went back into the Apple Store and spoke with the same Genius tech and he went to speak to his manager. He told me they would split the cost, and it would cost me $209 to do the swap, so I agreed....I was actually thrilled....then...he comes out with the new iPad and I go to give him my credit card and he says "don't worry about it. I got you covered"....I was blown away!!!!:D

I have my new iPad 64GB 3G, which my wife is not allowed near, until my Cyber Acoustics case arrives!!

This is awesome, this seriously sold me on Apple products as I've heard many stories like this.

When I had my ipad2 64 3G replaced for lightbleed, the receipt I got from Apple said $419 so the glass would certainly be less than that.

I usually hate these type of posts with people complaining about how they broke their brand new iPad or iPhone, but a great outcome.

And best of all, the info about the Cyber Acoustics case. Watched the video last night and I was sold....just bout the red one for my as yet to be ordered white 64GB iPad2....will take care of that by tomorrow.

Thanks for the info on the case!:)

Oh.... that is so gooooood!

Now you will have a blast asking your wife to make it up to you.

(ordered the Cyber Acoustics cases the other day...)

my ipad 2 is due in a few days and i'm not sure i'm letting my wife any where near it, the way she drops things. she'll use my iphone to order food (because the number's in my contacts) and when she's done, toss it on the coffee table like it's an old shoe.

no respect!

Same thing here. When I got my iPad 2 I got rid of a MBP I wasn't using and told the wife that the iPad 2 WAS NOT a community device and I was giving up a MBP (that I rarely used:cool:). Needless to say she isn't stoked but so far so good. I'm cool with her using it as long as she doesn't treat it like she treats her devices... which look like she has dipped in honey, dragged behind the car on a dirt road only to bring home and lick the screen. I don't know how she gets her devices to look like they do.

Lick the screen??

Seriously. My wife's iPhone looks like she greases it before she uses it and I have seen her drop it more times than I can count. Yet it is still not broken.

If I dropped mine, it would shatter I have no doubt.

Sounds like my wife. She had an iPhone 3G for about 8 months. Dropped it, and broke the screen. I asked how it happened..."Lotion on my hands"...WTF?!!!!

Anyhow, I'll NEVER get her another electronic device like that, or an iPad, or Kindle, or whatever without a bulletproof case!

Great news OP!

The worst that ever happened to my iPad was that it got sat on by a 240-lb guy... me  But it survived.

When I got my iPhone 4 I kept it in the box until I was able to buy an Otterbox Defender case for it. I knew it was only a matter of time before I dropped it, and sure enough, it fell out of my pocket 3 times during the first week while I was getting used to carrying it around.

Just an observation: I think Apple is obsessed with fragile glass. iPads / iPhones, you name it.

There is a new (four year old) type of plastic similar to plexiglass that is optically the same as glass, costs within 2% of the price of gorilla glass and is being used in a variety of products.

I only know this because I have a friend in the plastics business who get's so mad when his iPhone 4 breaks (he's very clumsy and refuses to use a case )

Damn man didn't think it was THAT bad! Glad you got it sorted smoothly, great result, next time don't trust women with technology :p

Someone I know dropped a camera onto his iPad2 and smashed the glass screen and LCD.

He went to his local Apple Store on ask about repair costs. He was advised that the parts required to do the repair were not yet available.

As such he was asked to return the following week and they would replace his device at no charge to himself.

This was last week.

Spot of luck that.
