Here's a couple pics, like I said we were very lucky. I still can't believe it.
Wow, glass looks untouched but the plastic ring appears to have bore the brunt of the assault. I can't tell if the marks on the steel band are remnants of the ring or are nicks in the coating, but it looks like a small scratch - a tiny price to pay, and VERY reassuring after days of "I dropped my Iphone 4 six inches and it exploded!" posts. (I believe they broke their Iphones. I'm having a very hard time believing they suffered one tiny little drop.)

The funniest thing about these type of threads are all the doubters! OMG... It's starting to get ridiculous.. But hey, I'm laughing cuss humour of the citizens of internet, damn it's fun! :D

Well, anyway, cheers to your good luck mate! :D More likely cheer luck and good impact angle than anything else! Oh, there's a tip right there! When droping something, see to it that you at least make it hit and edge of the phone! :D

It's funny how people are quick to chime in and say it's fake on positive threads like this but if somebody posts saying something os wrong with their phone and Steve jobs owes them money then everybody is quick to jump aboard the hate train with no question of the validity of the complaint. I swear this forum has never been so bad until this large influx of newbies started posting. My guess is that half the complainers don't even own an iPhone.

It's very, very hard to damage an iPhone unless you drop it in just the right spot. Thanks for proving that.

Still don't see any proof of a phone dropping 10 feet  Love the non-existant standard of proof in this thread.

Why the hell does he have to prove anything? He just shared a freaking story. Its not like he is claiming the thing is indestructible, he said it took an incredibly lucky fall. Why in the world would it even matter to you?

Great story man. Yeah, the glass is pretty tough despite people deliberately trying to break it. Although I'm surprised that didn't do it. From the chip it's easy to see you lucked out. If that phone had landed another way you'd probably replacing a chunk of glass ;)

Ok, well let me share a story with you as well then since we're all about sharing stories.

One day I dropped my iPhone from the Eiffel Tower

and the phone was only scratched..

Cool huh.

Glad nothing happened to your wives phone, although I'm sure the guy who's phone took a 3 foot dive off his kitchen table and had his phone shatter to pieces doesn't wanna hear it. All in all, I don't personaly think this phone is as strong as my old 3GS was.

I think you faked those pics in photoshop just to get attention. Pics of you NOT using photoshop or it didn't happen. :p

Amazing story... congrats! Soooo lucky! :)

Get a life. You say the lack of proof is ridiculous, then the only possible proof he could have, he shows.

Your acting like a jack-ass. Need proof? Step in front of your closest mirror.

Eww, I ALWAYS fear that I'm going to lose something down one of those storm grates! Luckily that storm drain wasn't filled with water (or gross runoff)!

Yeah, that plastic ring thing seems to work.

When I first saw the leaked iPhone 4 pictures from Gizmodo, I was convinced it wasn't the next iphone because the edges of the glass seemed totally unprotected. Obviously that's not the case.

BTW, I was checking out a phone in person in an Apple store on Friday because I specifically wanted to see this plastic edge ring myself. I've got to admit, even up close it's pretty hard to distinguish it from the glass. Impressively fine manufacturing tolerances.

Thanks OP for posting. Thanks, particularly, for the up-close "chipped" photo. Very informative.

Looks like you set this up to be honest. It doesn't show an iPhone falling 10 feet onto concrete and surviving.

Edit: This is the only reason you've posted on the forum. Some sort of nonsense going on here. I don't doubt that freak falls happen where electronics survive, I've seen it myself with glasses bouncing along kitchen tiles, but this is dodgy.

Yep it's a lie, the iphone 4 is a piece of junk, reception issues, scratches easily, and AT&T sucks.

I got no problem with the complainers taking their business else where, by all means stop using up my 3G network you Flucktards and go somewhere else. If you aren't happy with a product and service then don't use it. If you jumped into a new contract without waiting for reviews then that's your fault! Get a life trolls and and go get some sun!

I mean, I'm kind of new, but I've been reading the forum for quite some time, and I completely agree with you. It's hard to even read this forum after major product releases, because of the massive whine attack. Everyone wants a Macbook Pro and whines til it is released, and as soon as it's released everyone cries about it not having random feature X. Same as the iPhone and the iMac and everything else. It's incredible how much people complain stupid things.
