I mean, why does this still exist ?
Cheapest Apple device for screen mirroring at similar cost of two and a half hdmi dongles.
Honestly its the poor storage size discouraging me from purchasing one.
Use case without storage, why not, Apple TV SE without storage space (40$) maybe, no remote 60$, with old CPU for 20-30$.

well that's true.

The storage is ever so pointless though, I mean what's the difference 64gb 128gb you can't download anything but apps on it anyway.

Let me repeat.....it's not worth it and I'll add, consumers and even experts within the field, are down on 8K having any sort of widespread adoption in the foreseeable future. Also, again, you have to have screen sizes that are huge to notice any difference between 4K and 8K and that's not going to change.

Nobody doubts that it's beautiful, but there is little to no incentive to push support for 8K 60 when the number of people that would actually be able to take advantage of it could be counted on two hands.
I get what you’re saying but for reference my 90in 8k tv is 4-6ft in front of my seating position so I’m aware what’s needed to make the best of it.

Your installed VoD apps can download the data they need into their respective cache directories. When you have multiple streaming sessions save points used, then more storage is used. Obviously dynamic screensavers make use of extra storage available to provide multple choices, the 64GB model will only store a few, 128GB downloads way more. So it’s not simply about storage involved with app installation with tvOS. ;)

If Apple wants to attract new customers of this device, they don't need to worry about new chips. The A15 Bionic is already the most powerful chip of all that is used in media players. Those people who already agree to use this device will stay with it.
But in order to attract new users, they first of all need to focus on expanding the functionality. Such as:
1. Bitstream audio
2. Dolby Vision 7 FEL/MEL
3. VS10 engine
4. BluRay / DVD menu
5. AV1 / VP9 video codecs

If you add at least the first three points, it will already be a serious improvement and attract a huge number of new users. And if all 5, then this player will simply be the ultimate solution on the market.

Why?

I've got a couple of the 1st gen 4ks, they're plenty fast enough for what they do.

What they DO need is web browsers. Youtube is unwatchable on Apple TV, it's got ads.

YouTube premium.

My issue with the tv version of YouTube is more with its layout. Very inefficient use of space, especially when viewing playlists and history pages. I have a 55” tv. I can handle more than 3 previews per row. 😅

That has always been a question concerning streaming receivers. The likely answer Apple never originally never implemented a tvOS browser has to do with that type of app utilizing a lot of storage, memory and compute power along with needing sufficient screen resolution for it to be useful. Also the browser would have to qualify as a DRM implementation. We can certainly compare current iPadOS devices to a ATV now as the A15 with 4Gb of RAM and 64/128 GB of storage meets those requirements, and the binned 8/8 M4 SoC with 8 Gb RAM rumor would be a nice fit if wanted to go that direction. So those thoughts aside, now it comes down to treating a ATV as comparable to the cheapest iPad, think Apple will do that with their each device has their own turf?

There is no question without a web browser Apple cannot readily access useful facts online for entertainment data. So Siri would continue to be crippled. Apple will likely suggest to people that question this topic that screen mirroring from a iPhone, iPad, or Mac solves this issue, but we all know it’s really about the tvOS constraints they currently have in place. ;)

Note according to a one online article Apple went as far as removing support for Safari in the latest ATV4K 3rd generation. You easily glean from this example that web browser security might be questionable along with supporting recent HTML standards.

Agreed. And the navigation could use some improvements as well. But first a horizontal layout, that has priority to me. And I have a 48" TV, btw.

All modern smart TV is so slow compare to Apple TV and they get stopped supported pretty quickly too. I never use any apps on smart TV in living room. My mum very recently get new smart TV for kitchen that uses Roku OS and it not too bad actually, pretty basic cheap small TV but it lot easier and simple for non-tech clueless person to use it and my mum can't even use living room TV and need rely on Dad or me to use it.

Almost all "smart" TV's are slow. Even some new 4K TV's compared to AppleTV 4K 2017.
I've got a Panasonic 4K TV and I've disabled the smart stuff, because I found out that when I left it on the TV consumed around 20Watts of power extra for long periods of time, while TV was in standby. Turned off, it remained around 0.3 Watt.

AppleTV 4K power consumption measurements

If they produce a new Apple TV for around 100 euros I will probably buy one. Its convenient for playing my iTunes movies on the home’s biggest screen.

Really, no kidding. My Sony TV does all that also. Why use an Apple TV with the sucky remote.
Why does the remote suck? I think it’s great! Great aesthetic look and feel, has all the buttons I need where I need them, and ergonomically adequate. Even better when compared to the previous ATV remote which had none of this.

I think production of the regular A18 could be much bigger than people think. Not only the iPhone 16, but likely there "regular" iPad and iPad mini and possibly the Apple TV 4K box, too. Especially if, as I suggested earlier, the Apple TV 4K box in a future version gets Apple Intellivence support.

With smart tv's having every streaming app available (including Apple TV+), what is the point of an Apple TV nowadays?
would be great if folks replied instead of just using a thumbs down emoji.

I imagine there are people who don't want to spend thousands on the latest smart TV, I also imagine there are people who don't want to hook up their smart TV to the internet for privacy reasons. However, it's weird that Apple wants to put a camera in their Apple TV! I keep mine behind the TV and the other hidden inside a cabinet. I also don't want a camera surveilling the living room.
