there definitely are some advantages of choosing 7S+ over 8, here are some I can think of:

1. Price and availability

2. A more mature product than the all new iPhone 8. iPhone 8 more than likely will have some kinks to be worked out since it has so many new parts. Same reason I always buy new cars after their mid cycle refreshes, not immediately after launch of a new generation.

3. Latest rumors are 7S+ will don the glass rear panel like iPhone 4 and 4S, so there are enough differences to distinguish the 7S+ from 7+.

4. Other than the screen and form factor, internal hardware of 7S+ and 8 are similar if not exactly the same.

I see zero advantage over iPhone 8. 7S will retain the same form factor from past three generations. Except for Glass back due to wireless charging.

On the other hand iPhone 8 will be complete redesign with bezel less OLED display. Which we have been waiting for years. To me there's no sense picking iPhone 7S over iPhone 8.

I want to see how well FaceID works in reviews and specially flat on a table, and Apple’s implementation of iOS without the home button. I will buy a new phone because im on the iPhone upgrade program, but im not totally sure it’s gonna be the iPhone 8 yet.

I will be going from a 6 to the 7S this year. The reasons I want it over the 8 are Price, Touch ID, wireless charging and hopefully will have 3GB of ram. I'm sure the 8 will still be a great phone but overall I'm happy what the 7S should offer

If the price difference is only $300 difference, 8 all the way! Who wants 326 ppi, a 720i LED screen resolution, 2GB of DDRLP3 RAM and inferior camera again, a smaller screen size and no status?

All three models will support wireless Charing. So that's not a reason you can pick over iPhone 8

Nope. According to the rumors iPhone 7S will include 2 GB RAM.

4.7-inch iPhone 7s would include 2GB RAM while the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone 8 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s would include 3GB RAM,

Camera and video is much more advanced. Face recognition ID, OLED 2048p screen resolution, 4GB DDRLP4 RAM, 5.8" screen size, higher refresh rate!

I disagree. The one advantage the 7s will
Have is the cheaper price point. That alone will be a consideration over the more expensive OLED model for some. Not to mention, the 7S will likely be the more popular model, not because it doesn't have all the newest capabilities, but because it's the most affordable and will likely be the more widely available model. Not everyone needs or wants the latest features, especially given the rumored OLED model starting just under a $1000.

This for me. The 8 is just too much for the 64GB model. My 64GB 6 is doing ok, but it's noticeably slow, I'd like a slight camera upgrade at least, and I expect 64GB will be annoyingly small soon enough (I also like to keep music on my phone for when I'm out of mobile data range and take a lot of photos). Even though I spend 2 hours a day on the bus and would appreciate the larger screen, the current form factor is ok.

A 7S 128GB for £700 or so is the absolute maximum I can justify for a phone, I could live with that as an upgrade to last me 3 years (maybe 4).

I'm actually hoping to get a 7s+, but it really depends on how things turn out. If the 7s+ is barely upgraded, then I'd probably go with the 8. But if the 7s+ matches the 8 in SoC and RAM, is at least $200 cheaper, has the same cameras (at least back), and retains touch ID, then I will likely go for that. I've been using a $60 BLU phone temporarily. It's definitely a cheap phone, but it really opened my eyes to how ridiculous it is to spend $1000 on that type of device.

If you had asked me a month or two ago I would have said no way!

But honestly, after considering all the leaks and rumours, if they are all accurate, I'm really starting to think that the 8 might not offer enough to justify the price difference, and call me closed minded, but I am really not liking the idea of losing touchID for facial recognition. Coming from a 6, the 7s plus would still be a significant upgrade, so right now I'm on the fence. I will decide after the keynote.

The specs you've cited likely describe the 7s, not the 7s Plus. It sounds like 7s plus will actually have very similar specs to the 8, other than lacking the OLED display, slim bezels (at the expense of a physical home button and TouchID), and facial recognition. The question is, are those three features alone enough to justify paying hundreds of dollars more?

So if you dont have money for the 8 people will go for the 7S? Why buy the 7S if you dont have money...

Go buy the iPhone 6 then...

Such a stupid reason. I am sorry but I am a all or nothing kind of guy. Give me the best or the cheapest. Not something in the middle.

128GB 7S likely £699, 64GB 8 likely £999. That's not a particularly fine margin to me.

You're partially incorrect. In this article, it actually states the 4.7 '7S' will have 2 GB of Ram, but the 5.5 iPhone 7S will have 3 GB of Ram. So the larger model does have 3GB if accurate.

Direct quote from article:

"Kuo's final prediction has to do with the RAM in the three new iPhone models. The first post said that the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s would include 2GB RAM while the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone 8 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s would include 3GB RAM."

Well, by a complete redesign you mean it will be almost completely identical except for the face, and vertical camera.

Depends on the price and features. If the 8 doesn't have TouchID, it doesn't sound too enticing unless FaceID is groundbreakingly good. If I end up upgrading at all, a 7s+ could be a potential candidate unless dual camera makes it to the regular size.

Personally I hope that if the iPhone 8 is priced outrageously high everyone just finds the cheapest deals on the iPhone 7/+ and buys those. The only thing that you will notice going from a 7 to a 7S realistically is the wireless charging. The 7 is still an insanely fast device and you will save hundreds not going for the 7S.

If people accept apple pricing their top device out of the reach of their core iPhone customer base then that just going to make apple do it consistently and offer the majority of their customers a poorly specced money grab of a phone. If I can't justify an 8 for the cost I will get a much cheaper 7 instead.

Apple fans are being stupid this year. I don't even know how can you defend Apple in this case. I've been a loyal customer and had the 6, 6S and now the 7 which I already sold cuz I was prepping like every year about the newest generation. But you guys saying stuff like:

"Price and availability"
"Cheaper price point. That alone will be a consideration over the more expensive OLED model for some."

Is complete nonsense. Why you may ask? Well let's start with the following example. Imagine when they were releasing the iPhone 5S, alongside with it to be the iPhone 6 and 6+. 5S to cost $649 base model, iPhone 6 - $999 base model and iPhone 6+ $1999 base model. And then people to say the same stuff you are saying...."it will be the cheaper model", "cuz it has a bigger display, thats why you are paying premium price of $999". Well I am sorry but that is false and stupid. Apple will LOSE A LOT if they do this. I don't mind the damn price, I'll live. But hell, if they release a 7S, 7S+ along side with the 8/Pro - screw Apple. I'll just move to Galaxy S8, or that stupid OnePlus5. Will pay 50% less or even more and I will still have the same features/tech. It will suck cuz I am into the Apple ecosystem, but hey that's what they want us to be like. If you all don't increase your expectations and just buy whatever they offer you for any price, we can't ever evolve to the better place we once were going to.

So for the critics out there who will bash my post, tell me one good reason why in hell should anyone with a 7/7+ upgrade to the 7S/7S+ when there is an 8 out there. Responds like wireless charging, glass back and a new A11 chip is pure bs and does not justify it. The A10 is a beast for everything and still beats the S8/Note8 in speed tests. Glass back? Well let me sell you my iPhone 4S for $999 if you want a glass back?

Anyway...peace it was just my damn opinion which I felt obligated to share.

Yep, reasons:
  • Pricing is getting a little too rich for my taste. I have better things I can spend the extra £200 on.
  • Ultimately, what's most important to me is storage space, if I can get more for less on a 7s+, then that's an attractive proposition.
  • 50/50 here, but having owned oled phones in the past, there's still issues I want to know are resolved before I go back to it. The sub-pixel layout is important to image quality, and from what I've seen the 1080p LCD in the plus iPhones is still the gold standard of phone screens for sheer quality.
  • First gen product - bound to have teething problems. I suppose it'll inevitably be this model's 'gate'
  • Already a big upgrade coming from a 6
  • Availability (likely) - I'm willing to wait a while to get a new phone, but I'm not going to exert any significant effort if it's still constrained 3 months down the line. Which rumours suggest it will be.
  • I like to upgrade relatively often, no point ploughing so much money into something I'll only keep ~12-18 months anyway. (I.e. No incentive to future-proof)

Agreed - the 7S will be a nice upgrade for anyone with less than a 7 (6S even). As someone with a 7 who upgrades their phone each year I’ll either skip this generation or go with a S8. I just don’t see the value in a 7S if the rumors are true.

Totally agree. Didn't especially feel the need to upgrade my 6 last year (first time I've not missed my two-year upgrade cycle), had too many other more essential purchases around the house, but half-decent 7S near last year's price point would be fine.

One reason that I don't agree with for getting the 7s/7s plus over the "8" that I don't agree with is availability.

If the "8" is the one you want why does that change just because you can't get it right away? If people choose just based on what's immediately available they'll end up regretting it later. Have patience. Get the phone that you really want, even if you have to wait a little.
