I belive who want a 8 have to wait after Christmas ...,:)
i dont like when buying something wait that long ,

I prefer the shape of the screen on the plus; rectangular and a more useful aspect ratio.

Would happily pre-order 8 at the right storage; i.e 128GB. I have to wait and see what the actual differences are between 7+ & 7s+ as an alternative

I'm not paying over $1,000 for a phone. That being said the 7s will probably be what I will get based on price alone. Honestly I'm not thrilled about the design of the iPhone 8. Edge to edge is nice (Had an S8 so I've had a true edge to edge display) but it's not life changing.

i just sold my two month old S8 Plus yesterday (recouped some money before the big price drop on those after the new iPhones arrive). i agreed with the edge to edge display, everyone does that now, to be honest if you lay your phone face up, can anyone tell which ones are iPhone 8, S8, Note 8, or the new Huawei Mate 10 (debut in October)? and with more coming. to me Apple is late to the E2E screen game, it kind of lose some of the Apple characteristic since it'll look similar to all other E2E phones out there.

Plenty of people should go with the 7S/7S+ because of the carrier incentives from them or possibly seeing the exorbitant price tag Apple should have on the 8/X/Pro.

Samsung paved the way for us to expect an iPhone 8 encroaching towards a $1000 price tag. $930 starting for the Note 8 that is a mere upgrade on the S8/S8+? Smaller battery, barely new software, S-Pen, dual cameras, barely a better screen, 2 extra GB RAM for what double the price?

No thanks on that front. Especially with Samsung's suspect software and questionable device longevity.

The 7S/7S+ should have the best processor on the market nevertheless. To me, the 7S' A11 isn't worth moving on up to from the 7+ and its A10 processor. 8, maybe depending on pricing.

Availability will likely factor into my decision. I just sold my 6S Plus, so I’m without an iPhone until the new models are released and I’m certainly not waiting until December for the next one.

The “S” cycles tend to offer significant performance improvements. The 6S models were considerably faster and more future proof than the 6.

I honestly plan to run my 6s until it dies.

Why do people want the 7s or 8? (Or even the 7 in the past?) An OLED screen is nice, but other than that, I see very little reason for new phones these days.

Of course mobile cpu's are getting faster, but I find even my 6s in low power mode (which makes it run like a 5 or 5s) is still plenty fast for all apps.

Apple will mostly be extracting my money from a future macbook, not iphones.

Yeah, performance from my 6S Plus was still very good. I don’t need to upgrade right now, but I’m going to have to eventually and this was the best time for recouping the most money back. I got about two years of use, and now I have a decent chunk of change to offset the cost of the next one, so we had a good run.

The "iPhone 8" will be shipping in September. If you're waiting until after Christmas to get one, it's only because you took too long to order.

And the 7 is more so than the 6s... The later model will always be more "future proof" because it comes from farther in the future!

I want to use the iPhone as my main travel camera and for video. So it depends on the cameras for me. If the 7s plus has the same camera as the 8, I have no problem getting the 7s plus for less money and better availability.

Well, waterproofing and a better camera made me get the 7. What comes to the 7s/8 generation, I'll wait and see what improvements they have and whether they're worth what Apple's asking for them. However, the most likely reason for an upgrade is that my wife's iPhone 6 gives up and she wants the regular 7 I currently use. That would be a nice excuse to get the 7s+ with its dual camera.

I remember 6 & 6 Plus owners complaining about lag and other issues before the 6S models were even released. The 6S was twice as fast, had double the RAM, and better photo and video capabilities. The 6S specs were a big leap forward from the 6 and way more future proof. The 6S to 7 was a minor update in comparison IMO

Yup, that was a huge jump. I believe +70% from 6 to 6s. I'm not sure what the next jumps were, but I think they were more in the 40% range.

Edit: Out of curiosity, some geekbench stats:

iphone 5: 731
iphone 5s: 1220 (+66%)
iphone 6: 1419 (+16%)
iphone 6s: 2306 (+62%) (low power mode = 1510)
iphone 7: 3327 (+44%)

6s was definitely a nice jump. Even in low power mode it's faster than an iphone 6.

Many people don't care about the functions that will exist in the 8 - they just buy what is in store to buy and price will be a part of it. Those who care more about design than anything else will buy anything that LOOKS new to them.

Since we only have rumors about what will be in each - maybe people should wait.
At the moment a 7S seems like a great deal for me - not sure what a OLED screen will do for my reading of email.

the 7s will not have this ridiculous "ears screen" (the status area where the camera and sensors are), correct?
i have a 6s now. its a really great phone.
i do not like the ears on the 8 at all.
having said that, it does depend on the software implementation of where the clock and how the other data such as carrier and bluetooth icon are shown, on either the 8 or the 7s, that i will decide if i upgrade this year or not, and to which of the new models.

I simply cannot justify spending the rumored $1k for a phone. I'm planning on the 7S in January when I know availability won't be an issue. I'm actually downsizing because I'm sick of this 6S Plus not fitting in any pocket without sticking out!

Out of curiosity, people frequently say they'll get a new phone some months after launch once there's more supply, but instead of waiting until January to try to buy one, why not just order it at launch, and even if the supply is limited, you'll probably get it well before January?

It remains me of Fry's remark in an episode of Futurama when he said that no one drove in New York because there was too much traffic. People are like, "It's impossible to get the phone before 2018, because too many people will be getting it".

I can't make any claims into January of next year, but I believe the 7S will also be more widely available at Launch, but still constrained due to popularity. Mainly being it's price point will be the most attractive selling point and for those who intend on upgrading from an older model iPhone below the iPhone 7.
