Well there's your problem! This site is pretty much founded upon speculating before Apple announces anything.
+1. I've been seeing more and more people become frustrated with discussions like this. I don't get it. Why would you spend time on this forum if you weren't interested in discussing things that are still unknown?

i dont understand how the 3g was a bigger upgrade than the 3gs

the 3g only gave gps and 3g

the 3gs doubled the ram, raised the processor power, faster 3g, voice control, video recording, coating on the screen so it doesnt get as dirty, 3 meg camera ect..

They were both big updates but for different reasons. The 3G update would appeal more to the average person who doesn't care about specs and just likes the way the phone looks. Most of us here understand what the internals do and why internal & software upgrades have a bigger effect on user experience and the device capabilities.

My guess is both.

If not for the antenna issue, I'd have said internals only. I think they will try to get away from this design though.

Based on Engadget's report, both.

Which report?

The biggest annoyance to me would be that Apple uses the Verizon update (moving the top antenna to the left and moving the mute switch & volume buttons slightly lower) for the iPhone 5 hardware. This would be just enough to make my case unusable but not enough to get me excited about new hardware. Would be worst case scenario.

Internals only. A design like this isn't going to last for only one year.

Exactly, which is why it will not be called the iPhone 5.

Actually, your thread title made it very clear that this was another speculation thread where the answer is most likely unknown.

MR is very good about posting rumors on the front page - they usually pick up everything as soon as or sooner than anyone else here. You will know when we know. Simple. ;)
If MR didn't have speculation threads then this would be a ghost town. Do yourself a favor and don't click on threads just to stir up trouble.

Apple will change the external band to accommodate both gsm & cdma on the same phone. Other than that, the exterior will remain the same.
Possibly have an antenna fix in there too.

LOL thank you for proving my exact point. You knew it was a thread that you weren't interested in, didn't want to look at or contribute to so why in the world did you click on it? Just to make a useless remark?
Haters gonna hate.

To try and educate you. It's frustrating to have to wade through completely pointless threads full of speculation when NOBODY here knows the answer.
This is a rumor site. You're evidently confusing it with MacFacts.com.

They wont change the exterior design in my opinion. Too much work and money put into that to trash it so fast.

They switched the design of the original iPhone to the 3G design with the metal back to a plastic design back after 1 generation. I'm not saying your right or wrong, just that it's not out of the realm of possiblities. I don't think 4 phones is really enough to make any real pattern predictions, BUT, if we where , then the next iPhone would be a redesign.

iPhone 1, then redesign with 3G and 3GS being similar, iPhone 4, then redesign with "iPhone 5" and 6 being similar. Etc.

Um, the title of these forums is Mac*RUMORS*. Obviously people here like to speculate. If you don't, you are in the wrong forums.
