If Im currently in a phone call, i find it easier to use this app to find info on other people.

Im sure it ends up being the same over all. But I like having this app, its just there for people that need it.

I've never used it. I wish Apple would allow you to take home page apps (ex: Contacts, Photos, Calender, Speech, Clock) off. Make a place in Settings for them where you could turn them off.

Right, just like they already do with the Nike+ app. One would think it would not be too difficult. Then again, it took them three years to finally give us wallpaper (and only for the newest iDevices) so I won't be holding my breath ...

If Apple removes the Contacts app then you won't be able access your contacts even through the Phone app because the app won't be on the iPhone.

If you access the Contacts app through the Phone app you are just using a shortcut to the app. Delete the Contacts app, then the shortcut won't work.

Any reason you don't just use the phone app?

Perhaps because I'm not calling the person? What sense does it make to open up 'Phone' to look up someone's mailing address? Besides, when I open "Phone" it is invariably on the "Favorites" tab, as I prefer it to be. I would not want to switch back and forth every time I opened 'Phone.' It's enough of a hassle having to switch out of 'Visual Voice Mail' ... and I use that far less than 'Contacts.'

I can't believe only one other person has stated this as I thought it was pretty obvious. If you remove the contacts you won't have it in your phone cause the phone pretty much refers back to the contacts application when you look up contacts through it (you ever wonder how it knows what is in your contacts book? I guess if you've never used contacts I could see you not noticing. Go into your contacts. You'll see it has all the contacts you added through your phone).

Honestly, I don't care if they allow you to remove it (but then you'd not have a contacts list on your phone either, maybe a better solution is to allow you to hide it), but I'd be annoyed if they actually removed it. Cause some of us actually use it (and not just for phone lists, as some one else said, for addresses, birthdays, and other such stuff). Honestly, it's almost a standard to have some sort of contacts program on your telephone. Even my old simple non smart phones had a contacts program (that allowed you to put more than just phone numbers but addresses and even birthdays).

False. The contact app was not there in iPhone 1.0 and you were able to get to your contacts via the phone app just fine. I think that contacts icon was added with 2.0 or 3.0 don't remember

And how do you know that Contacts wasn't just added to access the same thing that the phone accesses?

All they had to do was add a functionality to have it have an icon that you could just skip using the phone app entirely to view the same list (and add more data if you wished).

Honestly, I can attest people use the Contacts app. I bet a lot of people do. Maybe some of you don't, but why not ask for them to allow you to hide it so you don't have it taking up space on your home screen rather than saying take it away cause we don't like it and force other people not to have it?

People seem to be forgetting that "Contacts" is simply the iPhone equivalent of Apple's "Address Book". Both are essential for anyone with any number of contacts to store phone/mobile numbers, email addresses, contact info etc, etc.

Can't wait for Folders! I will make a folder for stuff i don't use a lot like Stocks, Voice Memos, Notes, Contacts and Clock i am really excited, one of my main reasons to not buy stuff like games these days is because i hate scrolling through pages and pages, but with folder everything will change

Right, I think we all know that having an address book is necessary. The 'problem' is that the address book is accessible through the phone app, making the standalone app redundant and annoying (waste of space, etc) ... ;)
