Maybe right now there isn't anything quite up to the level of the Apple Watch, but by Fall 2016, there could be a lot more higher quality smart watches. And if Apple waits until 2017, they will be missing out on the 2016 holiday season.

Which one? I don't see anyone in horizon, and imagination or guess does not count.

We are talking about possible products that might come out by Fall 2016, so I'm afraid it's all guesswork and imagination. We'll just have to agree to disagree, and come back here about this time next year nod see who was right.

As I've said time and time again, the Apple watch is a great device and its probably the best smart watch out right now.... but it is definitely overpriced. $400 for the base 42mm is too much. $50 for some rubber sport bands is also way too much. Wearable tech is kind of a niche market in the first place, but at its current price Apple will have a hard time attracting more sales from people who are not die hard Apple fans, tech lovers and occasional celebrities. Like it or not, its the absolute truth.

If Apple really wants the Apple Watch to sell better and become more of a mainstream product (as in the majority of iPhone owners have one) they need to:

1. Most importantly: drop the price to $250 for the 38mm and $300 for the 38mm. It still might be too expensive for some but as an entry level model, these prices would be much more reasonable.

2. The square shape of the Apple Watch one of those things that people either hate or love. Apple would be able to attract a wider audience by making a model with a round screen to go along with the current shape.

3. Battery life has got to go up. Nuff said.

What Apple anticipates to sell this holiday season and what they actually sell will be 2 different things. They might sell more Apple Watches than expected and they might sell far less. However, one thing is for sure, the current price point of the Apple Watch is most definitely holding it back from becoming a more popular product. Though I'm sure once Apple recuperates the R&D cost they will get the price down to something more accessible.

It is over price only if you feel it is under value. For me, with hundred maybe thousand things it could make my life better, it is definitely under priced compared with all other watch, which could only do one or couple thing.
I judge value by how many things it could help me, not just how pretty it look on me.

They're offering the AW in places like target, it would make sense to lower their price to match the market they're offering their product to.

I don't think target is a place customers looking for luxury products are shopping in.
Apple hasn't lowered the price on any other object they've sold just because it's being sold in a cheaper location. Why would the AW be the first?

Could you show me where is lower price for 128G iPad Air2 selling in Target?
$700 is nothing in any department store any more. Large TV, iPad Air, all are or above $700.

By the way, Target does not carry every model, at least based online, no gold, only SS is with Milanese Loop, plus it is available online order only with store pickup option. All in store model are AW Sports.

Check out Target website, and you will have better understanding what they don't offer vs Apple Store.

If they ever hope to sell any they need to do something.
Unless they sort out the software and come up with a reason to use it i can see it dropping by $100-150 post xmas.

who's to say they aren't selling well? apple expect what, 4 million for christmas? who knows how much they have sold already.

they won't lower the price on any product that doesn't have a new one out

I have no opinion about Tag Heuer -- not sure why you brought that up. My post didn't day anything about price.
I was getting back to the original post. I don't think Apple will be reducing the price of the Apple Watch, since Apple doesn't really see the Android Wear devices as its competition. It could see a Tag Heuer smartwatch (running Android Wear or a custom OS) as its competition.

So what is your other option of "Smart Watch", not "Dumb Watch", or "Semi-Smart Watch"?

What do you want it to do? If you want fitness/health there are some great watches you can pick from.

But the apple watch does nothing well. The interface is poorly thought out and it's simply nicer and easier to just use a phone in nearly ever use-case...

What about fitness trackers like FitBit, Up, etc? Are they competition?

Have ever seen anything close to a product that is in the same category of Hermes in target?

They do not carry Hermes version of AW.
Spent sometime search Target website, you will actually able to understand what exactly Target carry, instead of guessing it.

Hermes only offer in "selected" store, as "selected" by Apple & Hermes, not select by store.

I have to disagree with you. The Apple watch certainly does do some things well and the the interface whilst it could be better is certainly not poorly thought out as you say. As for it being nicer and easier to use the phone in nearly every case again I beg to differ. I use my phone far less since I got the Apple watch then I did before. That's not to say there are some things that can be done better or only done on the phone but the Apple watch certainly makes certain things easier and more convenient.

I've said it before that the aw watch marketing is all over the place.

At $400 it's within the realm of high end watches yet way above the price of the average fitness tracker. Are there $10k versions of other smart watches? No because apple is marketing the aw as a luxury high end product.

I suppose target is more of a luxury retail store than WALMART but not by much. At the same time the pretty much sell the same exact products.

I think Apple will have to either lower the price of the watch or discontinue it.

Sorry I can't be more positive, but I'm afraid it's far too expensive to gain any kind of traction. It's also much too unfocused. Apple should concentrate their efforts on one or two features, but make those features exceedingly good and a compelling proposition; they need to be features that work better than on the iPad, iPhone or Mac. If that isn't possible, they should draw a veil over it and move on.

There's a time for letting go.

I know, apparently 16.7 million AW sold, 70% of market shared, in 2015 just not good enough for you.
How about 50 million in 2020 sounds like?

My question is, if Apple has 70% market shared, and you feel they have to lower their price, what does other smart watch company have to do, buy one get one free?
