It's possible they'll do a screen replace for the light leakage and leave you with the damaged case. I guess it'll depend on the person that helps you. They may not be doing repairs yet, just swaps. I know they do repairs on iPhone 3GS. I had one with a dead area on the touch screen and they replaced the screen only, no swap out.

You cannot just replace the iPad 2 screen. iPad 2 screens are glued to the frame unlike iPad 1 which is held by clips. So any replacement will be the whole unit.

If the light leakage wasn't bad enough for you to take it back four months ago (and it wasn't, as you didn't take it back) then it's no reason to take it back now. And you want to use it as an excuse to get your marred iPad replaced? Disingenuous, terrible.

Smart If u ask me

Go to the apple store. Don't even mention the scratches

Or do the exchange over the phone

A coworker of mine dented the top corner of his iPad 2 the first week he got it, then proceeded to ask me if they'll replace it for the screen bleed. If someone was trying to pull something over your eyes and you knew it was just a scapegoat, how would you feel? I'd feel like they were treating me like an idiot that didn't have eyes to actually see the physical damage. Essentially, just explain to them the situation at hand, that an accident happened and you damaged your iPad. Don't say you'd take it in because of light bleed and "oh wow is that damage? howd that get there?" Hopefully they'll be kind and replace it, worse case scenario is they send you on your way with your damaged iPad...which you can always sell for a lower price, eat the difference and buy another one...if you like it that much.

keep us posted, there have been some success stories with people damaging their ipad and getting one replacement...there have also been stories of people having to pay for the repair/replacement. so you're really 50/50

Just today my iPad got a crack in the display. I think my daughter might have done it but I really don't know when it happened. It didn't look like it was dropped as it didn't have the break typical with a drop.

I brought it in right after I saw the crack and they replaced it before they even asked how it happened. They did look to see if I had replaced it yet (had light bleed but I wasn't worried about it). Because this was the first time they didn't have an issue. The new one is much better with less backlight bleed.

I wasnt expecting it to be so easy. This is what will keep me buying Mac products. I know this was my fault (or at least my families fault) but they still took care of it.

Since the case is already damaged, they will just as likely allege that the drop caused the light leak problem.

Nice try, but as others have said if it wasn't enough for you to take it in before you dented the case, it's disingenuous to try and get it fixed now.

Apple may indeed replace it because that's the kind of company they are. But taking advantage of that isn't something I'd be proud of.

I think you should be completely ashamed of yourself if you try to get Apple to replace this iPad because YOU dropped it. That was your fault, not theirs...so suck it up. It sucks but it isn't that bad either. Just deal with it. It was unfortunate but for you, not for Apple. I you wreck your car you don't take it back to the dealr for a replacement...you buy a new one or PAY to fix the one you have. Don't be selfish.

Wait, that's your damage?? a few dents in the soft aluminum?

dude. consider yourself lucky and move on. a drop on concrete coulda been a LOT worse. let those unsightly scratches be a lesson to you in the future; hold your **** good and tight next time you're around that slap happy brother of yours.

I hope you slapped the **** out of him, btw

I don't hold anything against you here, you just reminded me of something - Maybe it's just my luck - but I NEVER get such non-questioning luck with apple reps. I've gone in there with legitimate issues 2-3 times (in 15 years) and I never get instant sympathy. I always experience a hard time...wherein I have to essentially beg for help.

Maybe I just have a snottier Apple store (Southpoint Mall Raleigh/Durham NC) but I've had similar experience in the Richmond VA store.

Good for you I guess... maybe I'll figure out the secret handshake or something

;)
