No I don't think so. Apple just made millions of dollars today and they haven't even released the phone yet. Yes, they had server issues, but they were able to sell more phones then they would if they didn't do any preorders. I'm sure as hell not waiting in a line overnight for a cell phone. If there was no preorder process, I'd probably have to wait a month before I could get this phone.

For the most part, I agree. Unfortunately, I think it will be more than a month, and possibly two-three, before most can get an iPhone 4.

That's the price you pay for hottest phone in the world!

Really? Were you up at 5:30 EST time trying to pre order? Because before the whole thing happened with the att part of the pre ordering apples servers had a melt down of there own. Apple actually closed the whole store on and off about 5 times. It had nothing to do with ATT at that point. Later in the day, yes ATT was partially to blame. But you need to check your facts. Steve can't really get upset with ATT when his own servers can't handle things.

I set my alarm for 5:30 EST, got on AT&T no problem, decided to check out the Apple store and played the "Oops" game for about half an hour before going back to AT&T a little before 6 AM and nailed an order number in less than 3 minutes, black 32GB.

They both screwed up, sorry all of the rest you had to go through this, it is rather bizarre...

I count my self very lucky to have got an actual order in, not so worried about launch day or when the phone shows up, my 3G will work fine until I need to start traveling full time again in mid July.

I was one of the first to preorder -- 4:00 AM EDT this morning. It took me THIRTY MINUTES to successfully complete my order, including having to enter my phone number, ZIP code and SSN about 20 times or so, and I believe it was 100% Apple's fault, for the reasons I stated above. Their ordering process is simply not very robust -- any little problem results in an "Oops!" error and they want you to start all over again.

Nope , Because the iPhone always sells out like this so even if the iPhone had been on another provider like verizon. Their servers would have had the same issues as well. Stuff happens. Servers problems happen. Some people just seem to have a hate for AT&T and are just using this for a chance to take a dig at them.

AT&T got hit with a lot of traffic.

Apple pulled the white iPhone after taunting us with it for the last 8 days, at the last second without any rhyme or reason, and still no explanation or ETA. They also had website issues (store went down numerous times last night), and the accessories (bumpers at least) don't ship until July 2nd unless you wanted black.

I blame Apple 100% for this one. I'm kind of a fanboy and I've never been so disappointed and pissed at them, ever. I didn't expect they could F up this bad.

After 2.5 hours, I finally got a phone. From AT&T, not Apple.

Not a chance. Apple will forever be on AT&T until they go LTE. Apple will never create a CDMA phone. 4.3 billion people use GSM. Why should Apple design a phone for those few who use CDMA?

With that logic, why should Apple even exist, and make OSX when 85% of the computer population uses Window's based computers?

So, do you think this massive failure today on ATT's part, which is making Apple look bad...again... is gonna finally be the wake up call Stevie boy needs to dump this loser company? discuss...

Don't blame it on AT&T.

Just a simple thing like notification. Apple did not sent me a email to notify me and I signed up two email accounts. AT&T email me first thing in the morning that I have to pre-order now. And that's what I did first thing in the morning and it went very smoothly. I got Black iPhone 4 32G from AT&T in ten mins.

It wasn't just AT&T...

It would been similar chaos in the UK if the 4 mobile operators took pre-orders yesterday.

Also, Apple UK was awful but I managed to get my iPhone order through when I eventually switched from Safari to Firefox! A process that normally should take well under 5 minutes took under a hour.

Both sides suffered from the overwhelming demand! Everyone just wants to get one! :D

no. the only reason apple's website is having problems is because of att's servers. it is their fault

Yeahhh no. AT&T has faults on the backend (eligbility) but Apple's own servers have hiccuped all day long to point where many times you didn't even get the check eligbility screen.

Also, take all foreign carriers out there how have had problems and Apple international also hiccuped.

Figured they would predict these types of issues from past experiences and would have things ready and prepared for heavy traffic.
I predict launch day is going to be a bigger ********.

+ 1, sadly.

I don't think any company would have handled this well. Unless of course verizon uses that super secret server that was built by aliens from the future

Depends how many they pre-sold. If it's a ridiculous amount, walk on water Verizon would faceplant just as bad.

store.apple.com was destroyed for like a couple hours this morning too. Right now the account system is off line.

well, I've been an ATT customer since 2004 and verizon customer since 2006 and in my experience att incompetence grows worse every year, so I fully believe it's att's fault IMHO.

anyway, finally go my order in through apple.com at 7 pm last night for shipment the 24th so I'm :)

att premiere reps were no help on this one

I listened to Obama's speech last night and I'm pretty sure he said that the ATT/Apple problems were George Bush's fault.

Exactly. I've never seen anything sell out like that, much less a phone! LOL.

What?? You must not get out that much then. Its was a typical sell out....happens all the time on millions of items. It wasnt the fastest sell out either. I got mine ordered late lastnight w/ no probs w/ the same launch day date.

I can see where they maybe didn't see that coming!

Just stopped at local ATT store on the way home. The guy that sold me mine at 7:00 PM CDT 6/15 (took ~10 min) claimed they had sold (in this store) almost 4 times the phones yesterday than their previous largest day EVER. (they had a guy going around keeping a running count as the sales reps worked) I can see where they maybe didn't see that coming!

I was shocked to see they had sold out earlier in the afternoon when I got home. However I got my confirming email 3 hrs later and Att does list it as ordered and not backorderd. I'm a happy camper, and will be even if it comes a few days late. Activation may be a bear 24-25th !!!
