What have you done with your life that makes you so much better than him?
So, if someone has accomplished more or made more money in their lives than I have, does that mean I'm not allowed to say anything negative about anything that person ever does?
Hmmm, let's see. Donald Trump took his Dad's small real estate company and grew it to become a billionaire. He has a TV show on NBC, he gets himself interviewed by virtually any media outlet he wants at any time, he has had three gorgeous model wives, and he even now sells a line of mattresses. But he's accomplished a lot more than me, so I better never make fun of his hairstyle or the fact that uses his famous name to promote mattresses, a product he knows nothing about.
How about Ronald Reagan? He was an actor with limited college education from a less than stellar institution and became a revered President of the United States, winning both elections in landslide victories. He has accomplished WAY more than any of us at MacRumors, so I'm sure none of us would ever have anything negative to say about him, right? There weren't any protestors against Reagan back in the 1980s, were there? Didn't everyone just love him and all of his ideas, simply because he accomplished more than all of us?
What about movies? Tom Hanks wrote, directed and starred in "Larry Crowne," but it only got 35% on RottenTomatoes.com, meaning 65% of critics didn't like it. But Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are both great, right? They're both much more successful then I'll ever hope to be, and I'm sure they both do more for charity than I do. I better not pass judgment on their movie then, right?
My point, if you still haven't figured it out, is that your argument does not make any sense. Someone being an accomplished musician and donating a lot to charity, does not make him immune from ever being ridiculed. In fact, being famous at all actually opens himself up to public ridicule, especially when he's trying to sell a very expensive electronic gadget for an obsolete iPhone that looks like it's made for a small subset of people who appreciate the artificial gold look...what others are calling "bling." And like Donald Trump, he's simply using his famous name and money to sell a product, not any particular knowledge of how those products are actually designed and made.
Please give us all another reason why we can't laugh at this absurd looking thing. The achievements of the man who made it do not protect him. If that were true, no one would ever criticize anything, right?
Your argument is actually that YOU like will.i.am, and you're just upset that the rest of us don't appreciate his "talents" as much as you do. Once you admit that to yourself, I think you'll feel better. But if you continue to whine about people criticizing him, then you're only going to be inviting criticism about yourself and your inability to make an argument. Instead, try to tell us all why it's a great product and why we should buy it. But will.i.am being a charitable over-achiever can't be that reason....not when he wants £299 for a monstrosity of an iPhone case for a phone I no longer own. Sorry.
