OK....So let's give the person who made that comment the benefit of the doubt because this is getting a bit old (even though we both know what they really meant). Care to explain some of these other comments away? Let me remind you:
"Dear Asian Designers,
Golden painted plastic is tacky. Please stop.
Signed,
Moi "
and
"I'm pretty sure every Lil Wayne listening hoodrat will sport one of these.... cuz you know, theres gold on it."
and
"..and certain proof that the towering **** jockey is as deluded as I previously assumed." (cramming a bit of homophobia in there as well, just for good measure"
Please explain to me how these comments are OK, and reflect a civilized intelligent critique of a new technology product.
1. This is a poorly designed product. The poster is saying that Will.i.am did not make it, but an "Asian" (probably Chinese) designer did. And golden painted plastic is present in many cheap Chinese products, which is a fact, not an opinion.
2. Lil Wayne is also a bling-lover. A huge one. Google him. The poster is making a connection between the two "artists" and their fans. Also, all of the Lil Wayne fans I know love overpriced products like Beats by Dr Dre and hoodies. I wouldn't go around insulting Lil Wayne fans, but doing so would not be racist.
3. One of those overly terrible comments insulting Will.i.am himself. That's just how the Internet sites work. The poster is just exaggerating the terribleness of this product and making it personal. No, I don't support this kind of attacking you'd see in Justin Bieber comments, but it's just stupid, not racist. And I don't see how this is homophobia either in its correct ("afraid of the same") or forced meaning, but maybe I haven't heard enough stereotypes to identify it.
The second and third comments are not OK, but they are not racist. The first one is probably off-topic, and I doubt a Chinese or Asian designer made the design for this.
