I have iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6 for alarm clock and light gaming. Its almost the same speed with iPhone 7 and when launching camera my iPhone 6 loads faster than 7 lol, because only single camera maybe.
iOS 11 will slow down all devices except iPhone 8 and the incoming iPad Pro 2. Since iPhone 5 will not support iOS 11. Then iPhone 5s (even 64 bit) will be the slowest like a turtle just like the iPhone 4s in iOS 9. Since 5s lacks so many feature like NFC, No apple pay, no Vollte, and etc that would cause 5s A7 chip to heat. Heck A7 devices already overheating in iOS 10 just like my cousins 5s, and my sisters iPad Mini 2 i cant even imagine A7 will slow it
5s not supporting NFC and Apple Pay, or VoLTE is going to tax the chip in it when iOS 11? That doesn't really follow.

Truelaley of course it's called Planned Obsolescence as always.
Ah, digging up a more than half a year old thread to simply throw in some "trigger/keywords" that have already been beaten to death in the preceding pages of the thread...got it.

Yeah it's absolutely going to slow it down. iDevices can handle 1+ year of software (past what came with the device), after 2+ years it starts to slow, and after 3-4+ years it starts to stutter.

It's the same every year, no matter how fast the processor.

It's been mentioned several times already, but planned obsolescence is not a joke. This is apple we're talking about, they will do whatever they need to ensure your device remains usable, but slightly annoying unless you upgrade. Some are more tolerant to these slow downs than others.

Progress isn't necessarily planned obsolescence.

Both the 6S & the SE will be perfectly fine on iOS 11, the A9 & 2GB of ram still both plenty & powerful enough, the only thing you miss out on is few new features that will predominantly be for the 7, 7S & the iPhone 8.

Also why would Apple only just release a new iPad with the A9 if it going to be crippled 6 months later with iOS 11.

The standard 6s is still a perfectly fine device in terms of raw power; what you should instead be worried about is if iOS11 will cripple the battery life of said phone, my old 6s sank to iPhone4s levels of battery life after updating to iOS10 and thats really not good

I dont think IOS 11 will slow down the 6s,. A9 chip is pretty powerful. maybe IOS 12 OR 13.

Define progress?

I see two things:

1) Additional features being added to software; extra things in apple maps, changes to notification shade, messenger additions (reactions, send effects, big emojis, etc). I don't see these things as things that would slow down the entire OS. I can understand when using those specific new features, that they may not perform as well on older hardware, but messaging features shouldn't effect how smooth safari scrolling is, or how quickly you can copy and paste from an unrelated app.

2) Overall OS responsiveness. This is what changes from year to year, no matter what features are added. Unless every single year they are making under the hood improvements that make the OS faster (this forum doesn't indicate that's the case - every new iPhone is just as snappy on the latest OS as the last was), then it's exactly what I mentioned, which means the new OS is harder to run than the last without any reason as to why. What does that sound like to you?

Some people need to feel ripped off about something.

I personally don't care (happy to spend money as it makes my decision to be financially irresponsible easier) but when you see patterns over and over again, chances are it's not a coincidence.

To hit you back with a critical thought; some people choose to believe what's easier rather than the harder truth.

Why can't people get their head around this? Better software requires more processing power otherwise why not just stick with iOS 4 and be done with it. No one is making you upgrade!

Define better without mentioning features added. Also, OP was essentially "forced" to upgrade in order to use his :apple:Watch, which he already decided was something he wanted to try out.

Windows does this all the time with their security patches.

Nah, you know back in the past when iPhone 5s still the latest. "The iPhone 4s is good enough it has 512 MB ram and it is dual core just like the 5/5S" people say that ALWAYS back in 2013. You know sister, when iPhone 8 came out it will be 2 years generation behind the iPhone 8 performance. Looking at the iPhone 4S in iOS 7 will gonna be same to the iPhone 6S this comming iOS 11 update. It will be still fast and questionable but some times the slow, crashing up, and bugs are now present at this point. Also 4S and 5 has no difference they are both dual core btw.

Very good point. The slow down may be there but depending on who you ask. However, the battery life will certainly suffer. In fact, I feel iOS10 is already doing the "damage" to my 6s+ battery life and I expect even worse from iOS11.

Battery getting used over time and being older is a factor as well.

Some of you just over do it or are just OCD. 6s Plus/6s will last at least till 2020, speed wise, in my opinion.

Agree with this. I upgraded to a 6S from a 4S. I can wait a long time between releases - the phones do hold up really well over time. But, I also agree with the planned obsolescence.

Yup. It's then I realised. It's only the standard iPhones getting plagued by battery problems. The iPhone 6 had official battery issues. Then the 6s had official issues also acknowledged by Apple. But notice how its never the plus phones?

I upgraded to a 7 Plus a couple of months ago because I got that sick of garbage 6s battery life (I'm not even on my phone the whole day), and wow, haven't looked back since, 7 Plus battery life reminds me of an iPad because it lasts the whole day. :)
