I didn't ask for your help.I am telling you what a normal rational person would do.No one is gonna dump $4000 worth of ecosystem hardware for a $800 phone.

9to5 already did. 70% said the new release of iOS 9 crippled their old devices
Right, so you already said it's skewed, which these fan based sites are. Out in the real world, it's a differing story.

As far as a "normal rational person", except for your 6, I havent heard / seen in the real world a crippled device. My iPad 2 runs fine under iOS 8. My sons 6 runs fine under iOS 10, as does my two 5s. So we're are not "throwing out" anything. And I would dump $4k worth of anything if I were that unhappy with it.

iOS 9 did bring the two iPad 2s that we had to a more or less complete halt, but those are A5 devices with 512K RAM. My iPod Touch 5th Gen, also A5 with 512K RAM, works OK. These are seriously obsolete devices in terms of their specs. The next generation newer devices work fine.

512K would be really old, I think you have 512MB in mind. :)

The ipad 2 worked marvelously with ios 4 given it's severely under-endowed hardware. An operating system with a fraction of the features of today's IOS releases. Positively antediluvian by today's standards. Coming up on a 6 year anniversary, it still works well enough to get by.

Personally, I will never upgrade again to any new OS. Keep your devices with the factory one.

iPad2 virtually unusable after iOS8; MacBook Pro (Mid-2012) slowed down after El Capitan;
iPhone6s->"BatteryGate" behaviour after upgrading to iOS10 (previously perfect with iOS9)

So what makes you think everything is fine and dandy in the real world?

When a device cannot open 2 tabs in a browser its crippled
When a device takes 2 seconds to catch up to input its crippled
When a device cant keep more than 2 apps in memory its crippled

If you think the iPad 2 runs fine, just try out the $50 Amazon tablet. Its running circles around it

iPhone 6 is still not as fast as on iOS 8

When a few animation frames are dropped in a few animations, now that's the truly crippling scenario we've been reading about in many more instances.

What makes you think everything isn't fine and dandy in the real world? The only feedback you have is your friends and family and posters on MR. Or maybe to count the hits on google, which is skewed anyway, because people just don't post on these types of forums when the are happy.

My 5s and 6 and 6s, can open more than two tabs in the browser, is not blocked and switching between apps is fast.

As to your point about the ipad 2, let's try it again this way. Show me a device manufactured around March 2, 2011, that is fully patched as of June, 2016 that is still viable en-masse as a real world device and not a glorified ipod, with access to millions of apps. A $50 kindle does not interact with my apple ecosystem, my ipad 2 does. Technology has advanced so much every year, the AW outperforms chips manufactured just a few years ago. (maybe some hyperbole, but the point is pretty much spot on). So should I just throw away my ipad 2 and buy a kindle? What a waste of $50.

IMO all iOS 11 compatible devices is going to be slower, except iPhone 8 and IPad Pro 2 Question answered .

Thats not support. Its called crippling the device to the point its not usable. I have seen PCs in many offices running Windows XP and not Windows 7/8/9/10 because with 512MB RAM , the latest Windows would be slower than molasses going uphill .For the tasks those PCs do (just some random letters and docs editing) Windows XP does the same thing Windows 10 does at a much more productive rate. If you put in the latest fully patched version of Windows on them it would take 10 mins just to get to the desktop. At some point its better to abandon the device then slow it down (forcing the consumer by not giving a downgrade option) and make it just a piece of scrap metal useful only for recycling when it was perfectly usable earlier

This is why Google's 18 month policy on their Nexus made sense to me.Beyond 18 months the device is too slow to handle the latest updates.Security fixes should be continued for 3 years which they are already committed to

It's a workaround that will stop it.

And labelling this "scumbag" behavior is really hysterical, over the top. If you can't deal with this, go back to a copper landline. It's just not that hard to deal with the update nag from Apple (or any other manufacturer/vendor).

You can count on only 3 things in life: death, taxes, and a new version of iOS making your perfectly good iPhone feel obsolete.

You can't do anything about the first two. About the third you can: DO NOT UPGRADE IOS. The scumbags at Apple makes it tough (forced downloads) but not impossible.

You see what happened to windows users who don't keep up to date. It's just a matter of time until it happens with iOS. Good luck!

Yeah, the bad guys are just dying to break into my phone. Right.

Being the diplomatic type, though, I promise to update this thread when you are proven right. Good luck.

They don't care about breaking into your phone to get your info. It's called ransomware. If you don't know what I'm talking about look up wannacry...

You appear to have a limited understanding of the things hackers can do with malware. It's not just about stealing your photos and posting them online. There is usually a financial incentive for it, which may range from fairly innocuous but annoying pop up ads to ransomware attacks. Malware infections are indiscriminate and don't care if you think you are important or not...

I didn't think iOS 10 brought much benefit over iOS 9 on my 6s+, so I expect even less for iOS11.

In fact, when I showed my friends what iOS 10 can do a year ago ( I was among the first to update), they were like..."oh, that raise to wake" looks cool, but there goes my privacy.

Well what about iPhone 6 is it slow on 10
I have iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6 for alarm clock and light gaming. Its almost the same speed with iPhone 7 and when launching camera my iPhone 6 loads faster than 7 lol, because only single camera maybe.
iOS 11 will slow down all devices except iPhone 8 and the incoming iPad Pro 2. Since iPhone 5 will not support iOS 11. Then iPhone 5s (even 64 bit) will be the slowest like a turtle just like the iPhone 4s in iOS 9. Since 5s lacks so many feature like NFC, No apple pay, no Vollte, and etc that would cause 5s A7 chip to heat. Heck A7 devices already overheating in iOS 10 just like my cousins 5s, and my sisters iPad Mini 2 i cant even imagine A7 will slow it
