Exactly, I do not want to see rainbow os on a black premium iphone 5. Maybe it looks alright with white but obivously does not suit to black.

I want to have monochrome icons.

But iOS 6 doesn't have any of those options. Nor did iOS 5,4,3,2 or 1. Why is it suddenly an issue for you now?

The colourful theme does not suit to the black

First off, that does not suit to the english. Second off, I think it does, and anyone really being objective wouldn't know until they installed the beta on their black phone and were disgusted.

The black theme will be available but it is only compatible with the iPhone 5S which will debut this fall. Its not that Apple wants you to keep dumping money on new hardware, its just that the current gen iPhones don't meet the technical requirements you see... so the big selling point for the 5S will be theme selection on iOS 7.

Is that a recent change? I remember my English teachers scolding us for doing so when I was younger.

If you read the article, it mentions that English teachers frequently say this. But they're wrong.

The English language is an utterly beautiful thing. And used in the right way, you can do an awful lot.

;)

I'd like a black or dark theme for my black iPhone 5. All the bright white is too contrasting for a black device. Apple made it a point to not show it on a black device. Maybe it doesn't look as bad as I and others think it would. Would be nice if Apple at least included pictures on the site.

See I actually thought that this might happen for a few reasons:

(1) Only white iPhones were used throughout the entire presentation.
(2) Jony Ive is all about hardware and software cohesion - what better way than to mimic your hardware's color with a similar UI theme?
(3) Apple knows that new UI announced looks a little "unprofessional" and are ready with an alternative.

Not to say that it would be straight black - I'd imagine the transparency would be more a darker gray, but it could be interesting. Perhaps they weren't ready with it or wanted to save it....

Though as another poster mentioned, the transparency itself could lend to vast numbers of differently colored themes (look at the way the pass lock screen "changed" in the Ive video). Anyways, I think it could be interesting to watch nonetheless.

Will has? what the f__

Awesome spelling in this thread, education system paying dividends in the US I see.

I think you'll find it's 'Prove it' not 'Proof it'

And you should always start a sentence with a capital letter.

Minor Problems

8. Corrections. There is no need to point out another poster's spelling or grammatical errors unless you think it is causing confusion. Remember that not all members are native English speakers. Communication, not correctness, is our goal. Examples: Don't correct members who spell Mac in all caps or who call the iPod touch an iTouch. When other people (especially new members) fail to search and start new threads on old topics, don't scold them or make them feel unwelcome.

Not sure black looks much better because these great new "flat" icons tend to disappear when they share the same colour as the background - like my clock here:

The UI is heavily dependent on your wallpaper. The translucent nature of the UI picks up the color palette of the wallpaper and uses it to inform the overall feel.

Most of the screenshots floating around are using Apple's stock wallpapers that are lighter in nature. Once you start changing them to various light/dark and color mixes, the whole thing looks different.

Essentially it feels like Apple is trying to allow "themes" without them being "themes", if that makes sense.

I was somewhat curious about this too cause I noticed that EVERYONE at apple seems to have a white iPhone (in contrast to most of the iPhones I see on the streets).

I have a black iPhone and a really awesome black and white pic of my wife and daughter as my background. It provides a really nice contrast to the colorful icons of iOS 6.x. I would have liked to have seen a black phone with black and white background running iOS 7 though just to show some of the possible contrasts.

It is so sad that Apple has turning to a rainbow toy rather than going on with job's way.

IOS 7 is not looking like a luxury premium os, not it looks childish just like useless android.

True. It looks like this new UI was designed for 14 year old girls with iPhones. Which, %90 of all girls in my HS have.

The best opinion I've heared about iOS 7 yet

My problem with a white theme is that having all those white pixels turned ON all the time will impact on battery life...

And too much empty white space in apps like Mail, Messages, and Safari, make things blend together in a way and jump out a bit much in darker environments (and somewhat more so with black devices).

Gregintosh did you read what you wrote?

I can't believe you really thought that at any point. How do you suppose your current iPhone screen is incompatible with a dark theme? It can't reproduce the color "Black" ?!? What? Come on, dude! What you're saying is outrageous!

A software "skin" is not a matter of hardware. It's nothing more than the current phone "looks".

Whether Apple is going to make a dark one or not - I'm guessing only time will tell. I hope they do though - iOS7 is too bright the way it is right now.

I really think he was being sarcastic, but again, he didn't put the '/s' at the end, which makes everyone freak out!
