i dont think it will replace my nikon d90 but eventualy ill make more pictures with the iphone 4 because i have it with me instead of the d90 wich is pretty bulky to carry around for an eventuality.

No IMO a phone will never be as good as a good camera. In lots of situations it will be fine. but it will never replace my camera. because the sensor will never be as good as my camera.

Well, I haven't bought a camera since the one that I bought in 2001 and I still use it to this day, an old Sony Mavica that recorded the photos onto a CD.
I dig that out once a year for vacations, shoot some photos and then never even look at them, and repeat next year. That camera still has more megapixels than my 3GS.

Even now, the few times that I have taken photos during the year, it's been on my iPhone. Maybe if my old Sony above didn't need to be recharged, I would have used it more but nothing beats the convenience of a camera on my phone that works as long as my phone does.

I'll likely never use the video camera. I have not once used the video camera on my 3GS.

Nope. Optical zoom > digital zoom. I am looking forward to improvements on the photos I'd normally take with my phone, though, especially in lower-light situations. Apart from that, I'll keep my Canon PowerShot SX 200 IS as my P&S and my Canon DSLR for everything else. :)

I've got a DSLR, but one doesn't really carry one of those around everywhere one goes. So yes, the iPhone will serve as my point-and-shoot.

Well seeing as I don't have a dslr, and my current digi cam is a pile of poo....Yes it will replace my iPhone 3gs as my daily use digi cam. I was a Blackberry owner 2 yrs ago and when I got my iPhone I was spoiled with decent picture quality of it. The stupid BB picture quality was horrendous at best.

Yes...plain and simple. If I don't have my DSLR with me...I'll have the iPhone.
My compact point and shoot is two years old and I don't plan to ever buy a new one.

Yes it will because my Canon PowerShot A350 had an issue with batteries, after 5 mins of using it was giving me already the battery low icon even with new batteries.

Eventually I torn it apart so now I have none.

Of course it won''t, I have the D90 too! :D But the iPhone 4 will certainly serve as a good point-and -shoot camera for the daily run-abouts.

For casual pics maybe, but not for work or important pictures, it's not close enough in quality yet to a decent camera, and it's missing a pretty important feature often standard on today's point and shoots, image stabilization.

I almost never use my Nikon D5000 anymore, it's just so bulky and unappealing for me to lug around on vacations. I also love the ability to Tweet and upload photos to Facebook right away to share with friends while I'm on trips or just walking around or whatever... I foresee my iPhone 4's camera as being the next step in completely eliminating my point and shoot and majorly decreasing my usage of my DSLR. Also, I will probably not buy a Flip camera (like I had planned on doing).

For everyday things yes. But not important pictures like of the kids/fam, etc..

It'll be with me almost all the time, so it'll be my default camera. For special occasions though, I'll still use my dslr.

Yes, but the 3G replaced my compact digital camera.

I have a Canon D7 SLR and an iPhone. I have no need for something in-between those two things. Why the heck would I need some point-and-shoot?

I'm very pleased that the iPhone 4 will make my iPhone photos much, much better, but that's just icing on the cake. I ditched compact digital cameras two years ago.

It will replace my digital camera for now since I just lost it. Hopefully this will be ok for a couple of months since I'm not a photographer or anything.

I have a DSLR for taking pictures and video and when I don't have that with me i'll have my iPhone.

Like they say, the best camera is the one you have with you! :D

It will replace my point and shoot provided the quality of images is at-par or maybe a bit less than my current P&S - Sony W120.

For vacations etc, I have my trusty T2i.

Yes.

This is something I always wanted to have the ability to do.

How many places do you take your digital camera? How many places do you take your phone? Your phone goes everywhere. To have the ability to have digital quality camera pictures and the ability to shoot HD videos anywhere you take your phone = awesome.

Except a compact digital camera isnt limited to simply taking movies and pictures in perfect lighting. The iPhone won't be able to do that.

So no, a phone will not replace it. I expect quality, and you won't get that from the iPhone or any other phone for that matter now in mid to low light conditions.

No, the major reason being that there is no optical zoom. Digital is occasionally halfway decent, but you can't bean optical zoom. The phone will be used much more than the compact camera though. Having two kids around creates a lot of opportunities for pictures and I very rarely have a camera on hand, but the phone is always with me.

Since I have returned to film for 90% of my work as a professional photographer, the new iPhone could very well replace ALL my digital cameras..;)

It is likely that my new iPhone will replace my camera and video camera for every day kind of stuff. But for the special events I will bring out the big guns.

I'll have to wait another week to find out for sure, but I'm getting the impression the iPhone4 will be more than enough to take pictures of drunk friends at parties.

For daytime shots and general day to day activities, yes. But, at night for concerts and sporting events? Nope, because xenon flash is needed.

I voted no, but the real answer is yes to one, no to the other. I have a nice big digital camera for photography, can't replace that. I also have a small 5MP camera I use from time to time for the heck of it... that one will probably collect dust if the i4 takes pics as good as we hope.

Edit: "compact digital camera"... I need to learn how to read. I also do not have a video camera, just the 3GS. Having HD on the i4 is going to be great!
