Who knows they may just skip the number 9 moving forward.

Or do 9 than 9s the following year.
But than have an Xs and Xs Plus in 2018...lol the numbers thing is out of whack if you ask me.

I do definitely think the 8 design with a button is done, it's long in the tooth already, and Face ID is their new way of doing things, but it's also expensive I'd say with the true depth camera.

The problem with all this is that Apple is not a budget company, they don't need a budget phone, role with a flagship and people will find ways to buy it. If they release a 9 the numbers are going to be crappy like the 8's and again it's not something that Apple needs to do because at the end of the day, society wants the best, not the lower end second best. Some analysts will say Apple can corner the market and cover 2 ends of the spectrum, and maybe they can, it's up to them and we'll just have to wait a few months until leaks start popping up.

There will be an 8S next year. And I strongly suspect the 6S will continue to be sold.

We are still a few years off from the specs of the X being able fill the lower price points and Apple doesn't want to lose those people while they wait for that to happen.

Hopefully not. They’re good phones but that design is to dated. I was actually thinking about getting the 8 plus but the bezels are just to chunky for me. Especially coming from an s8.

Nope. That design was dead as soon as the X was released. No longer needed.
Incorrect. The design never died. Proof? Sales of 8 and 8plus.

I assume there will be an X and X plus, as well as one cheaper model with LCD and home button.

I don’t think the design of the iPhone 8 is old or behind.

Androids don’t count IMO bc the 1 Android I got, the Samsung galaxy S8, had software issues.

I see plenty of this design around.

First rumors about the next year iPhone start in December, real leaks start in Q1, design leaks in Q2, and we usually know just about everything in July and August.

It’s hard to say. I’m sure they’d like to get all new iPhones in 2018 and beyond to OLED and Face ID, but they’d need to get the price way down, and I’m not sure they’re willing/able to do so in 2018.

Ever since Apple called the X „iPhone Ten“, it‘s clear to me there will indeed be an iPhone 9. Also next year would be too early to have an all-OLED lineup because a) there would probably still not be enough supply of Apple-quality OLED screens and b) they couldn‘t hit the 649/699 starting price point without a deep cut into their margins. And we already had rumors about new LCD iPhones with reduced bezels. Put all this together and I would guess there will be an LCD iPhone 9 line next year, but it will not look identical to the 8 line but instead inching towards the X design paradigm.

My best guess is we will see a minor upgrade to iPhone X along with an X plus next year..iphone 8/8+ will remain in lineup as they are currently. I think Apple will eventually drop the 6s and 7 from the lineup altogether, perhaps as they run out of stock. Apple is looking to the X for the future in iPhones. JMO

ETA: So no iphone 9

Who knows for sure? Did anyone think that the 5/5s design would return after the 6 came out? It may never be used for a flagship model again, but it could be used again for a "budget" iPhone.

The bottom line is that anything that anyone here says is just a guess.

The design is dead. They will sell the 8 and 8 plus as the entry level and ditch the iPhone 7.

The iPhone X style is the future. Face ID and no home button.

I party a lot. Sometimes I have to walk on sketchy sidewalks to get to my car or a late night bite to eat. Sometimes these areas are very, very sketchy.

I'm sure your answer makes sense to you. I'm still scratching my head over it though. How do sketchy areas and the iPhone X = safety issues?

iPhone X is hot right now. Hard to get. Everyone’s goo goo gah gah.

My iPhone 8 looks like any other iPhone basically.

Someone sketch might see I got the latest and greatest and snatch it or something

Seems to me the iPhone X is not the problem in this equation, but to each their own I guess... Stay safe.

The problem is people out there who would steal it, but that was not my point.

My point is that the iPhone X is in high demand so someone might see it and snatch it. iPhone 8 is less demand and also it looks more like 6 and 7 esp with a case.

So, not safety issues, per se, as in an unsafe product --- just simple paranoia about showing off your X in your daily environment.
I get that. I would also make the choice to leave my phone out of sight, when there are those who might "sketch" around, a little. Those would be rogue artists, I guess... o_O or those who wear Sketchers. I fear them, too. :D

But then, an ugly, stickered-up case on your X would take care of appearances, IMHO.
