I dislike humongous phones..so if Apple ever makes anything bigger than the future phone..I'll probably have to start looking for alternatives..

Also..it's hard to hold huge phones..I can't hold on to the S2 and talk at all =/

3.5 is the perfect screen size for me. And I'm sad they are increasing it. Hope it's still accessible with one thumb for me.

If iPhone 5 through 7 sell as well as original iPhone through 4, they'll have no reason to increase the screen size.

Larger screens are slowing down innovation. Innovation and the future of mobile communication is wearable devices that don't require input by hand. Screens should be wearable and input shoud mostly be voice with other secondary options. This whole desire for larger screens is a step backward.

Google seems to be innovating in that area. I can only hope Apple secretly is as well.

While that's true, we'll always make use of our hands so it'll never be mostly by voice. It's not always appropriate to dictate at all times, especially if you're in public or a meeting. Unless of course they figure out a way to read our mind.

Saw a petite young Asian woman using a Note as a phone today. She could barely hold it in one hand and it dwarfed her face.

It looked awkward and ridiculous.

Thank goodness Apple will not listen to the fanatics on this forum regarding bigger cell phones. Just count how many there are of you here. Not that many and Apple sells millions. You guys that use your phone as a computer should consider going to the Android Galaxy Note or something like it. I like the current or the iPhone offering and no wider. I use my phone as a phone mostly and would never consider a wider phone. I have a computer for the other needs. :p

All the haters love to exaggerate the size of Androids with modern sized displays.

Here's the facts, as hard as they may be to face.

135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9 mm - 4.65" display - Nexus

115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm - 3.50" display - iPhone 4S

I see loads of girls at the university carrying Androids like this.
Perhaps some of the boys here, are just not up to it :)
+1

Of course, you would call that p***ywhipped. In this case it's Apple-whipped.

Comparing a slightly larger iPhone to a tablet is the argument of fools.

Sadly you have no clue about the true capabilities, and purpose of a modern smartphone.

A dumb phone would suit you well. You would find it's battery life & ease of use ideal for your purposes.

That's got to be one of the strangest comments I've read on here. The iPhone 4s is 58.6 mm wide, the S2 is 66.1mm wide.

You're saying an extra 0.75cm means you physically can't hold the phone next to your ear with one hand?

They will increase the width if human race have a way to grow the thumb finger as long as the middle finger. If we don't find a way to grow, the apple just keep pointing their middle finger to those of u who want a wider iPhone.

I've been with an android devices that gas 4.3" and 4.6" and believe me, its more width doesn't really make the screen much bigger than the iPhone's width but it's very not comfortable to use at all.

Yup. I can't hold on to the phone for long. My hands start cramping. It's not the phone issue, it's mine.

This! Hahaha, but good point.

Current Korean dramas are like this. Lol

We know what the capabilities and the purpose of a smartphone, but once it grows even larger, it now becomes a mini ipad/computer. Optimum word here is, SmartPhone that one uses as a phone as well as using it for GPS, web browsing, photo taking, email on the go, and for those that like to text, that to, but if you start making it even larger, than it becomes uncomfortable to hold in one hand, looks silly putting it to your ear to make or receive calls, and some (Many perhaps) don't want a larger smartphone, but a mature looking, solid constructed and well thought out product.

Flip phones are good for calls, but not practical for GPS, photos, email stuff, since the size of the screen is way too small. Therefore a nice comfortable size smartphone is in order. But today, kids like to play games, watch movies on a cell phone and they are not happy with an Apple size screen, and want bigger, to a point it becomes a computer for them to take anywhere. For those of us that don't need a silly larger screen, you vent and complain about Apples decision to keep it at a good size for the majority of use that like it that way. It has been stated many times now. If you want a larger screen, go to a manufacture that gives you one. Apple is not for you, so why come here to complain ? It will not happen, so leave and enjoy the Android phones that are larger for you. Be happy and join their forums :p

If I wanted a huge phone, I'd go buy one. I wouldn't sit here on the forums and bitch and moan ENDLESSLY about how Apple is destroying my life. (I really don't get that... people, if you want a bigger phone, go get one and quit whining! Is it really that hard?)

I hope it does take another 5 years. By that time, this trend of going huge for a phone will have reversed. I am completely happy with the current size. I imagine I'll be fine with the new one, since it's not a major increase in size. I want to be able to put it in my pocket, hold and text with one hand, etc.

As you can see by the responses here, there are a lot of us that don't want a bigger iPhone. Plus, it's very un-Apple like to ever make anything bigger. Think about the history of the iPod Mini/Nano.

Alternative perspective:
A company with the largest market capitalization in the world will HAVE to start to offer more varieties and sizes of iPhone in order to slow down Android's market share growth.
There really is no perfect one-size-fits-all when it comes to phones.
Some people can type on a 4.5" screen with one hand, some need a smaller screen.
Apple's policy of 'one new phone a year, and let's call the old models our budget phones' is not going to cut it for long, IMO.

They don't have to do anything of the sort. Remember, this is Apple. They have had one phone every year. I don't see this changing.

It is funny how you mention "bigger" and everyone assumes you are asking for an iPhone note.......

A 4.3 inch phone is day and night difference compared to a 5+ inch one. It is quite a nice compromise between too small and too big.

Go look at a HTC One S (not the X) and see what i mean. The phone isn't very wide and quite portable even though it has a 4.3 inch screen.

I can tell you almost every thread on this forum is pointless if you really think about. People asking about rumors, people asking questions they can directly ask the actual people (the carriers for example for carrier stuff), and so on. Why do we even need forums then?

Take your censorship somewhere else.

Oh please.. Apple can very easily put in a bigger screen (4"-4.3") by widening the iPhone by just a bit.

I don't want a taller iPhone, i want one that is a bit taller and a bit wider too. I'm guessing there will be a redesign with iPhone 6.

Expressed the way you have, is something I'm aware of. It's called preferences which I respect.

Some like small. Some like a bit larger. No big deal.

It's the wild exaggerations, lack of knowledge, and hatred that so many use to make anything other than an iPhone seem outrageously large.

When in fact it's only a few millimeters.

Let's deal with FACTS:

The Galaxy Nexus with a gorgeous 4.65" display is only 9.5mm wider than iPhone 4S

For those of you who may not be able to do the math, that's only 0.37"

Hardly Truck Sized... LOL :)

Don't believe it?

We have a lot of devices at work (mobile development) and thats one of the biggest complaints on the larger phones. It's almost impossible on the lumia 900 to reach the left side of the screen with your right thumb without starting bing search with your palm.

I agree on the pocket comment too. it wasn't that long ago we were moving towards smaller and smaller phones and now we have 5.5" screens. People buy them though so what do I know. I admit they're intriguing but I don't want to carry one of those around until man purses are fashionable...
