lol yeah I didn't think of how the title would sound off the tongue... Also how would I be able to find out if I am an authorized user?? Can I log into my plan on att.com and see that way or will I need to call AT&T??

Have your mom login to her AT&T account through the website. Go to My Profile tab and then scroll down to Authorized Users - Retail Store and click add.
 
I also called around to a few local AT&T stores and they all told me that I can go ahead and do it as long as i'm an authorized user and I have my ID with me. I'm 17. I also spoke with two CSR online through LiveChat on AT&T MyAccount and they also told me it would be okay as long as I have my ID.

I'm gonna be recalling the stores later today and speaking with the managers, just to make sure I'll be set.
Sorry guys... Maybe I'm just slow lol, but my mom gave me the info to go on MyAccount and add myself as an authorized user, but I wanted to make sure I can go in myself and can't find the LiveChat option on the page lol If someone can tell me how to get there I would be very appreciative

Go to support up top, click it. Over on the right there should be a box with LiveChat.
 
As an authorized user, you can sign the contract. I doubt they will check the age of you unless they really look for it or as you for your b-day. Other than that, make sure you have her SSN ready plus your government ID.
 
i don't mean to sound like an ass, but you are 17 and a big boy now. get on the phone to an at&t store and see what it is going to take to get the phone.
 
This is a response from AT&T to an email we sent. My mom is the primary account holder for our service, so I wondered the same thing. Now I am over 18, so i don't have to worry about it, but they did address the issue in the email.

Dear Ms. Joyner,

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail the new AT&T regarding your son
as an authorized user on your account. I can definitely help you with
your inquiry.

Ms. Joyner, when your son visits the store, he will need to have his
Photo I.D. with him. He will also need to be able to verify your
account. (In other words, he must be able to tell the representative
your name and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.)
PLEASE NOTE: Ms. Joyner, your son must be 18 years of age. When he
purchases an iPhone, it will require a 2-year contract extension. If he
is not 18 years of age, he is not legally able to enter into a contract
.

That answers it.
 
I think I'm gonna try and go to an Apple Store to get one. I still have my original 100 dollar rebate from the old iPhone that I will try to use towards the new iPhone. And I have a feeling that they will let me activate there considering they have no experience with cell providers lol

I made changes in the AT&T store to my family's plan (both lines are in my dad's name) and all they needed was my line's phone number. No ID, no SSN's, nothing. I'm 16 but I look younger. I even brought my dad's upgrade phone home for him, without him being there.

So if you go to the same AT&T store as I did, you won't need your mom.

Since we have seven people in my family, we need two family plans-- one in my dad's name, one in my mom's. My brother lost is under my dad's account, and he lost his iPhone last week. My mom and I went in to try and get him a new SIM, and all they gave us was a blank unactivated SIM since my dad wasn't there.
 
It's not that I don't want to be seen with my mother lol I'm not that insecure. It's the fact that if she needs to come with me then I will need to wait until she gets out of work at 5 so she can come with me, and I'm concerned that they will be out of black 16GB's by then

I'm assuming that this is the same job that PAYS for your phone? Wait it out, if it's sold out, it's sold out. They'll have more in a couple weeks time. You're gettin a free ride, this shouldn't be an issue.. :rolleyes:

You have to be an Authorized User of the account. If you don't know what that means, google it because it's been explained countless times.

No an Authorized User is different than just being a user on the plan. Whoever the account is in the name of ex: mom or dad or wife or husband has to make you an authorized user, which allows you to make changes to the plan without the account holder being present. An authorized User can only make these changes in store though.

I'm sure that Apple Stores will receive daily shipments. They did last year, so he would have wait another day.

My suggestion is that he calls the store he wishes to go to. Talks to a manager and verifies everything with the manager.
 
I called AT&T cause I'm 16 and I'm an authorized holder all u need is Ssn from mom and date of birth, from
u an photo id(( from school may be, or drivers license) make sure u are an authorized holder that could be made on line or called AT&T! good luck

What??? What "job" are you talking about?? I'm still paying for the phone, text plan, and data plan with my own money it's just that my mom pays for the family voice plan.

My bad nick lol... guys you have to be 18 to do this because technically you are signing a brand new contract, which is a legal document, you aren't just extending the contract you have now
