I don't believe they will do a complete redesign anytime soon, it doesn't make sense from a business standpoint. They would have to reinvent all the tooling and manufacturing processes which would cost quite a bit of money. That doesn't appear to be needed since the Pro's currently move a lot of units. The competition still hasn't caught up so I doubt if they just left the same design that it would cut into sales. Now, they may tweak the design by a little bit, that seems more realistic.

off course the 2012 mbp will look different but maby not a complete redesign but a bit probably for instance for sure they will remove the optical drive and make the mbp a lot slimmer

The 2010 & 2011 MBP's do look nice though. (I would have hated it if they re-designed them and they didn't look as good.)

dont forget the 2009 and late 2008 mbp they look the same with a little design change here and there but nothing to much just the battery cover change and port logo like the new one

Those were unibody aluminum Macbooks in 2008, not Macbook Pros.

I wouldn't be surprised. The design now is fine, but I can see them making it a little thinner by October.

I'm sorry what? You buy a mac for its looks? Isn't the MAIN purpose of buying a computer is to get whats stronger, faster and better than the last one? I mean, I understand design and looks mean one thing, but its not as important as specs.

Yeah I buy a mac for its looks. If I wanted the best performance I would buy a cheap pc and install linux

There are two ways they can approach it:

- keep the MBP larger than the Air and use that space for greater battery capacity and more cooling for higher wattage components

or

- work towards slimming the MBP size and weight so it gets closer to the Air

In both cases, a move to SSD only is likely. The other choice that seems likely is that the ODD will be gone in the next generation (see the move towards recovery partitions as an example). So if they go with option 1 and keep the chassis larger, that expanded space will likely go towards battery as in either case, we're probably moving towards blade SSDs.

In the case of #1, I think we'll be seeing the same Unibody chassis for another few revisions.

Buy the 2011 version ... now! ... it's wonderful ... !!

Although I was VERY disappointed with the refresh of the new 13", I'm in need of a laptop so I may just do that and sell it a week before the next refresh.

I personally love the current design of MacBooks. I know because they have been like this for longer than 2 years people are calling for a redesign  But if they did redesign them and made them look worse people would whinge about that.

I think some people just want a different designed MacBook so they can brag about having the latest model and currently there isn't a way to differentiate it from last years model (apart from the Thunderbolt port obviously) Personally I will look forward to receiving my brand new MBP that I have ordered soon :)

All these posts and none closer to an ounce of undeniable truth so I'm going to do you lads and lasses a favour here, like.

There will be no refresh because of the Mayan 2012 prophecy.

This is the most likely scenario for sure. Apple tends to develop tech to use in multiple models/devices.

You still havent said what is wrong with the current version...

The bullet list from his major complaint topic, which I linked above, was as follows:

-Worse graphics card (13")
-Same low resolution (1280x800)
-Same HDD (70Gb difference is a joke)
-Same SuperDrive
-Worse battery life (Stricter tests aren't going to change things by 3 hours, this battery doesn't last as long)
-Thunderpants "HIGH SPEED I/O" which won't even be used until a few months done the line

- Graphics card doesn't appear to be any worse, according to many benchmarks. 1
- Resolution is not low, in fact it is standard throughout the small laptop market. 2
- 320GB HDD is pretty nondescript/average, easy to upgrade, this is really nitpicking.
- Superdrive is valid. I'd like a Bluray drive too. This is not a regression.
- The battery is identical, as is the battery life. 3
- Thunderbolt is a great interconnect that will expand the abilities of mobile computing dramatically. 4

So basically he's doing a lot of whining for no good reason. Which is pretty typical. You're best off just ignoring him.

no re-design, no upgrade!

i don't want optical drive.
I don't want AMD graphic card.

I want Full HD resolution for 15".
I want SSD+HD hybrid storage.
I want nVidia card.
I want lighter MBP.

Want a better resolution? Buy the 15"...

Do you even use the graphics card?

Its a freakin HDD, Apple doesnt make it...go buy one yourself if you dont like it.

It plays DVD/CD and writes to both...the MBP will never play Blu-Ray so get over yourself. I think this is something like the HDMI port, licensing cost too much for the computer to use either.

MDP supports HDMI out, go buy a MBP > HDMI adapter and be quiet about it. At least we dont have HDMI and have to try and get VGA out of it.

It still gets 7 hours of battery and yes they did change the testing. Go find another laptop that doesnt have a brick of a battery get anywhere close to that. I think they do damn good for being this thin and still getting that kind of battery life.

Thunderbolt may not be used for a while but at least Apple is building for the future...something you all whine about "Apple is so behind on there notebooks." So when Apple puts something new in you complain because its too new? Seriously.

The laptops are about as light as they will ever get Liquid Metal or not. The case is probably 20% of the whole computers weight to begin with.

Dont like AMD graphics? Go buy a 2010 model.

You want SSD-HDD hybrid storage? Well then the optibay is for you!

Dont want an optical bay? Refer to above.

Want full resolution? Go buy a 17", I have enough trouble reading text after waking up on my 15"...cant imagine how hard it is for the older folks.
