2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a new larger 6.7-inch sesame seed bun with a higher sesame seed density - so different, we call it the Toasted Retina Sesame Seed Bun XDR.
Sounds delicious!

It is a word that Apple invented that basically has no real meaning except that it is a bad thing that Apple strongly objects to as it costs them money and control of what they permit to run on iPads and iPhones.

Downloading means fetching stuff from another computer, uploading means sending stuff to another computer. Sideloading I guess would logically mean sending stuff from one place on your computer to some other place your computer. Apple uses it to mean the really bad idea of downloading stuff from places that isn't them. Why they invented the nonsense term "sideloading" for that is a mystery but I guess they needed some pejorative label for "bad thing we don't like".
Apple did not invent “sideloading”. It is a broader industry term that means to install apps from sources other than the official App Store. I believe that the term originally came from the practice of transferring the app files from a local computer. Not really downloaded nor uploaded. Most Android phones allow apps to be sideloaded though most users do not take advantage of that option.

Apple objects to sideloading as the apps have not be checked by App Store review process for security and basic function. As it happens, Apple does not get a cut of any payments for sideloaded apps. Apple’s security concerns are not without some merit but one wonders if the App Store revenue has an outsized influence on their position.

Really? Where can I collect my free iPhone 12 Pro please? Sounds amazing!
They’re not. You’re responsible for the taxes, activation fee and administrative fee, plus the residual for the difference of the trade-in for your old phone to receive the 12 Pro. Anybody telling you otherwise that is ‘free’, is woefully ignorant and factually incorrect.

Nothing that says 'I must have it' I'll be happy to see a few features that other cellphone makers already have

Its tough to find features in a mature iPhone market

Fine. But the 13 Pro is cheaper for customers than the 13 mini.

Chugging along with my 8+ I’m still happy with. At this rate I might see the iP 15 or 16 released before I upgrade, upon which I could well be looking to upgrade to a 12 I guess.

My iphone 12 is bashed up quite a bit [multiple falls onto concrete], so was looking to get a 14 pro.

I have actually zero excitement about these new models. The iphone certainly is at a point of diminishing returns on features.

The iPhone 14 will be a disappointment because it will have USB 2.0. See the following thread for details:

The iP14? Apple just needs to create a new box and label it iPhone14 - a lot of people will buy even if there is an iP13 inside. Is it an iP14? OMG, an iP14!!! I gotta have it!

On the other hand, those people are getting fewer and fewer.

But innovation? I think it is hard to innovate a smartphone today. There could be reasons why I would get a new iPhone. USB-C, integrated TouchID, better battery life, no notch - but all this technology exists. Apple doesn‘t use it for whatever reason, but it already exists.

Disappointment to who?

My iPhone 13 Pro Max is less than a year old. How many iPhone users upgrade after just a year, or even two? For me it is typically three years between new models, so I'm more interested in the innovations that will be coming with the iPhone 15 and even iPhone 16!

Reading on here you'd be surprised! Seems quite a few do.

I don't think it'll be a disappointment as I've read conflicting rumours, even on this sites front page I think, that the standard model will get the new hole punch design and processor. But it won't be a disappointment anyway, I see an awful lot of iPhones with two camera lenses on the back these days. The standard models are popular it seems.

Considering that I will update from my iPhone X, in order to be disappointed I'd need to be disappointed by the cumulative upgrades in iPhones XS, 11, 12, 13 and 14 ;)

Yes, and since the 11 and 12 there really is little point in upgrading every year or two years. Maybe if you are hardcore, and I mean hardcore, into iPhone photography in the very specific way which the camera gets improved that year.

I think 3 years is really the earliest it could be "worth" it to most people. If the 2023 iPhone really does have USB C I will upgrade both 12 series we have in our house to them, as a "vote with our wallet" approach. If not we'll likely see how it goes waiting until the 2024 model.

I still for the life of me do not understand why they bothered to "shrink" the notch last year, only to swap to a hole punch this year.

If this is the prevailing media attitude to a product that hasn’t even been announced yet, maybe they shouldn’t be trusted to report on it. Pretty cynical mindset really

Yes, but if you look at the competition, no one is making meaningful strides forward in terms of features.

Most features you see are gimmicks designed to make the phone seem "new" and "exciting" without offering much of substance.

This is simply the nature of a maturing platform. It's what's happened with cars, printers, televisions, etc - although there can be points in a segment's development where new features do bring new life and features, like we are currently experiencing with the computerization of almost all products.

Rest easy, new innovation is on the horizon in one form or another.

Totally not true. How about people with smaller hands? How about people that like to use a phone one-handed?

I don't have tiny hands, but I do like to use my phone one-handed. I have the iPhone X, which is 5.85": only slightly smaller than the modern iPhone 13 screen. It's really easy to use one-handed, especially in recent iOS versions where Apple have been rearranging things to make one-handed use easier (for example, moving the tab bar in Safari to the bottom of the screen). My thumb can comfortably reach anywhere on the screen - except the top-left corner - when holding the phone one-handed in a normal, comfortable position.

Occasionally you will get some poorly-designed app with an annoying layout that makes one-handed use difficult, but 99% of the time, it's fine for people with normal sized adult hands.

But sure, allow me to correct my statement to "the mini is for people with small pockets and/or small hands" ?

miniscule incremental upgrades (not even cutting edge compared to competitors) for over £1k per year - not sure thats going to be a sustainable model in the new economic climate.....
And that’s why they will be selling the pros like crazy for new margin records.
