Yeah, right. Honest thieves. Clearly that's the majority.

Funny how it's the 'morality police' when you're called on something you're doing, but for some reason I doubt you go about any single day without passing any judgements. "You see, it's okay when I do it!"

Dude. You're missing the point. Someone who demo's something and then buys it isn't stealing anything.

Whatever. There are a zillion great reasons to JB besides anything having to do with theft.

"Jailbreak" is the wrong term. It should be called "liberate".

Yeah its hard to do things without SBSettings..pretty much the only app I use when I jailbreak. Emulators would be nice to try out on this A4 as well :D

jailbreak = break out of jail. same thing as liberate really.

People jailbreak their drives for "legit" reasons? Maybe 10% of the JBers do... most do just for piracy though.

Any stats to back that up? I'd suspect that it's the other way around. The majority of people seem to jailbreak to add functionality that should've been present from the start. For me, it was wi-fi sync and better text message notifications. Apple's always touting the iPhone as business-ready, but when I'm on-call in the middle of the night, three short tones spaced 5 minutes apart doesn't cut it.

^^ this ^^

I've bought a couple of dozen Cydia apps...and not the cheap ones either!

Jailbreak is totally invaluable and for all the price of paid apps I really can't understand why people feel the need to grab warez...if you could afford the phone in the first place then you can certainly afford the apps you *need*

Then again...if you nicked the phone :p

This is absolutely incorrect.

Just because a whole age group of "younguns" with no allowance chooses to steal apps, the vast majority of us here pay for all our apps.

Here is an example of why most of us jailbreak. Guess which lockscreen most of us want...

lockinfo! i dearly miss not having to open up the calendar app to see if i've forgotten there's something i'm supposed to be doing! and statusbar notifications, too. i miss that little envelope.

10 percent? You just TOTALLY pulled that number out of your ass. Speaking for myself (and not the 9.9999998% of the other non-thieving jailbreakers according to you) I Jailbreak for access to system files mainly to customize UI sounds and icons. That's basically it. I have never pirated an app for my iPhone. Frankly, I don't feel up to the hassle of finding the app, downloading, applying crack, etc. just to save 2 buck.

Another reason is HD YouTube videos over 3G instead of that crappy quality u would get.

And possibly FaceTime over 3G.

I see a problem there. Assuming YouTube on the iPhone 4 now defaults to 720p HD when used on Wi-Fi, a LOT more 3G data would be used and it would probably take quite a bit longer to load videos on 3G. I hope there is an option to choose between 360p and 720p when the jailbreak comes out.

Apparently that's your thought process but I don't agree. There are several reasons to want to JB other than piracy. As mentioned, better functuality that Apple leaves out. I'd bet 95% did the JB at first just so they could MMS.
IMO those who don't JB are just wimps who are affraid to tweak their phone.

man i miss wifi sync. it finally gave me the ability to have my massive itunes library with me anywhere in the world. sbsettings is also a must, as well as 25 icons per page and 5 icon dock. firewall ip etc etc. most of the best apps are jailbroken no question.

oh and icon themes of course! stock icons are so ugly.

Microsim cutters/adaptors

Before they announced that they were switching to the micro-sim, I was planning on keeping my 3GS, till the jailbreak was released, so I can switch the sim whenever I wanted to use MyWi. This is probably a stupid question, but has anybody heard of an adapter tray so we could go back and forth between iPhone4 & 3GS?

Yes, there are a few out there, if you google or search eBay for microsim adaptors, you'll find what you are looking for. There are also a number of companies making sim cutters, which are essentially a holepunch shaped to hold your minisim (read: NORMAL sim) and cut it down to size. I can think of Rebel Sim Cutter and cutmysim.com, but oddly enough, both of them say they are sold out and are only taking preorders (sound familiar?). Anyway, when my iPhone 4 comes in, I'm just gonna cut the sim freehand with an exacto and buy one of the adaptors for $5.

what is the name of that theme for your lockscreen, and how did you customize your status bar like that? I also like that large slide button...:D

It's a custom theme I put together from some existing LockInfo themes.

The status bar has 4 different mods in it: an AT&T carrier mod, WifiMod (Cydia) a battery mod and signal bars mod (SSHed in) plus the font is changed.

Thats a nice lockscreen, how did you get the weather and alerts etc to show on it?

The name for the iPhone 4 unlock:

Firehail

Hopefully soon the jailbreak will be out. I won't need an unlock (if I ever need it again) at least until my next deployment to Afghan in two months.
