Note 9 set the standard for this year with 512GB on a phone will iPhone follow?
Let us hope so. 256 GB is approximately 3 year or old technology storage already. iPhone is a mini computer or iPad :):D . iPad and Mac have 512 GB version. So why not for iPhone. With 4K and advanced technology camera, higher storage will be required soon. Although iCloud is available, when internet connection is not available for various reasons, that causes inconveniences. Unless 512 GB available, no reason for me to get “S” cycle iPhone X this year. X”S” plus is nice with less than 1 inch larger size but overall, without 512 GB, the money spent will only be for a “little” larger size and “s” minor/ no big deal improvements as no design changes. iPhone X fits nicely and comfortably in shirt and pant pockets. That is my two cents.

I don’t think you can really compare storage capacity to technology (Two different things). Storage doesn’t have to advance the way technology does, it just depends on the users needs for filling said storage. You have to realize how much 256 GB of storage really is. 256 GB is actually likely not the ‘norm’ many consumers choose, because it’s significantly more expensive for that iPhone model. When somebody opts for 512 GB, Apple is going to charge a very high premium for that model, which would likely be not a very good seller strictly because of the price tag given how expensive smart phones already are.

No. Have people never heard of Cloud storage?
I've never used it and don't intend to.

But you have to back up regularly and manually, whereas a few £s/$s spent on iCloud does it for you, just by putting the phone on charge.
I backup with iTunes every time I charge my phone by plugging it into my computer.

I don’t see the point of even 256 GB on a phone. When I’ve talked to people that have that much storage it is due to either music or pictures or sometimes games. Most who need that much storage for music are out to impress people with all the illegally downloaded music on their phone. Doubtful many will have paid for that much music. If you take that many pictures, well that would be impressive and well beyond what most of us need. Then there are the gamers that need every new game and all the extras that need to be downloaded. You’ll also notice that many of the people that need this much storage for whatever reason are the ones that complain about daily battery life.
I have a 256GB 7+ and a 256GB 8+. No one I know cares about how much storage my phone has or what music I even have. I bought the 256GB models because I have a driving job and I simply like having my 120GB of music with me plus have I also have plenty of room for podcasts. It really keeps the job I've had for 24 years, one I still like to do.

Sure I could stream but that cuts out once in awhile. As for battery life, I've never complained because my phone easily lasts two full days on one charge.

The Note 9 just got 512gb so the answer is: Not for another 3 years.
Apple have actually always been ahead of android when it comes to internal storage. Remember just last year google were only offering 128GB and Samsung only 64GB in Europe and America. Yet Apple had been offering 256GB on their iPhones since 2016.

Any android tablets available in Europe or North America that offer 512GB of internal storage?

Until recently most android phones have always skimped on internal storage in favour of micro SD card expansion.

I've been getting along fine with 64GB (and 128GB when 64 wasn't an option) iPhones for the past 3 years. I rely on iCloud quite a bit for this to work (Photos, Music and recently Messages).

However, just because I and many people can do this, doesn't mean there isn't a need or want for some to have a large amount of local storage.

512GB is quite a lot, but we have seen it on iPad Pro and I think we will see it by 2019 on iPhone (if not this year).

I'd buy a 512 MB iPhone. It's useful since Netflix and Amazon allow video to be downloaded for viewing offline on a few very long plane flights which I've found myself on this year. Since I don't know exactly what I might be in the mood for over the course of 7-10 hours it's nice to have a selection. I expect other content providers to eventually follow suit.

I've usually gone with higher storage iPads for this reason. As soon as travel time comes and you need a bunch of video for offline playback you'll suddenly wish you had more storage.

not a chance. At least for me, on my 64gb i used about 20 and had 44 left. This year i'm hoping 128 is the minimum for the X+ model, since i'll be keeping the phone for 2 years

Most people who go for the 512gb note 9 will do so because it has an extra 2gb of ram over the base model note 9.

I have a 256GB X with 200GB free. I already store all photos/videos locally and have a ton of apps. It makes sense to have more storage if you plan on having a ton of produced content on the device, but perhaps a tablet is a better choice for that. Besides not sure 4k content makes much difference on an iPhone size screen to be honest. I suspect most o the storage will be used as an increased junk pile, with people shooting multiple videos/photos and just leave instead of cleaning it up and keeping the good ones.

Apple will release it if they think there is a large enough market for it. Realistically this is where the Android SD card play comes in handy, to store all this additional content on a device. Don't see a need for more than 256GB main storage for the majority of users.

I have lots of offline media (ie. Apple Music). While I don’t personally need 512 today I support the storage evolution. Especially if it means that lower tiered storage becomes bigger and/or more affordable.

Streaming doesn’t work well for me. I go to off the grid areas. Separately, I would have have higher monthly payments for storage and data; so local storage is cheaper long term. I also don’t have to worry about extra roaming fees. Ironically, you mention battery life. It improves when you’re playing offline rather than streaming.

The only downside of more local storage is the upfront price. And that can be more than offset long term for those who utilize it.

Just ordered the 512GB Note 9 for my work phone. Hoping for a 512 X Plus for my personal phone to match. Even though photos on my personal device are backed up, I don't remove them from the phone. I don't feel like screwing around with optimized versions either. I have 3 kids and we travel a ton and are always taking videos and photos. I like keeping them on the phone since looking back at them in TimeHop is something I look forward to daily. Might be a stupid reason to some, but that's just me. I can say that when I finally get off my duff and set up a home nas/cloud I'll probably look to keeping everything there instead.

Even if the 512 GB iPhone was in existence, there’s absolutely no way I would need that much storage for an iPhone. Now if I was venturing onto an iPad, I probably would store more media on a device like that then I would my iPhone. Mainly because my iPhone is primarily a communication device, where as my iPad would be more of a desktop tool.

Recent leaks are now showing a 512 GB option so I guess it’s possible. As for me, I have the 64 GB iPhone X variant and currently have 45.74 GB available. More than enough. I do understand buying a high storage device though because with higher megapixel count cameras and 4K recording, that’s going to take up a lot of space.

certainly not for me, unless they upgrade the USB standard to be 3.0 and above at least. The current USB tansfer speed is just too insane for such large size storage iphone.
