It's free - but is it really?

I'm sure there will be some T+Cs saying that if you get the free case you commit to not mention the problem ever again.

So if apple engineer a real fix for the problem and come out with a modified iPhone 4 by say, September 30th, then we probably won't be able to swap out our iPhones for fixed ones.

I'll get one if there aren't any strange T+Cs linked to the "free" purchase.

Probably reading too much into it. They just want people to shut up so they threw them something to pacify them.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. My phone has the reception issue, but I have already purchased the iFrogz Luxe case. It does solve the reception problem, but Apple won't refund third party cases that have been previously purchased. I'll wait and see what they offer later in the week before I make my final decision.

I already have the Case Mate ID/Credit Card case (best case I've ever owned), but I'll still be getting a bumper...never know when I may need it.

I have this case as well, and although I like the functionality of replacing my id/card case, I don't think it does a very good job of protecting my iPhone or alleviating the signal issue.

Regarding Protection, since installing the case, I have not dropped my phone, but 2 small chips have appeared in the edge of the front glass. My signal still drops precipitously when I touch my phone.

I have the silver metallic version of the case. Even though it's made of plastic, maybe the metallic paint is still a conductor.

I'm going to be getting the free bumper because I think the edge of the glass face needs better protection than my current case provides.

So would you stay pacified if you get a free case and then they do fix the problem in the next production batch?

I can't see them not fixing it before iPhone 5 comes out... Apple selling an immature product for an entire year? Not a chance...

You should have more options to your poll

How about:

-Yes, but I don't need a case for reception issues, I want one for protection.

For the record I bought a bumper on launch day, and I just received a white one (love it!). I'll be taking the refund for one so that I can get a case that offers more overall protection (I'll put the $30 towards an Incase slider most likely)

I don't have reception issues without the case, yet I have a white bumper. I understand they will refund you the cost of the bumper if you have one already but I don't see that as right. If you have the issue so be it, get your case. If you don't, why take advantage of a company trying to do the right thing. I am not going to get something for free just because I can when I'm not having any problems. I made the choice to purchase the bumper for protection, apple claims to it will solve a reception issue that I'm not having. They have every right to make a profit on an item they sell, I am not going to take that away from them simply because they're willing to let me. It's called morals, something the youth of today know nothing about.

Bleeding heart? it's just business...I wouldn't feel too sorry for a multi billion dollar corporation they take advantage of you, it's only fair...it's capitalism

I don't have a problem with the antennae, so I don't need a free case or a refund for the one I have. I don't believe they will redesign a thing mid product cycle. They are likely going to fix it with next years model and possible offer those who stuck with 4 an opportunity to upgrade at the fully subsidized rate.

Here it is people and this is how a business works, and how the consumer can send a message to a business. If you have problems with the phone, don't keep it (you will kick their butts in gear far quicker if you hit them in the pocket book than you will sending apple care 500 emails). Return it and get a different phone, there's no gun to your head. If you want to keep the phone and then continually bitch that it doesn't work like you'd hoped, then there's no hope for you cause you had the choice to return it. You keep it, apple owes you nothing since you knowingly held onto it despite what is public knowledge now.

Last I checked they don't have a monopoly on the wireless phone industry. Lots of other phone companies out there to chose from, so how exactly are they taking advantage of you? Are we forced to buy the iPhone at whatever asking price they seem fit? No, if it's too high, don't buy it. Bitch and moan about it because the only phone you HAVE to have is an iPhone, well then your a spoiled brat (not you personally, just people in general). Plain and simple.

How's the oxygen level on that high road?

Shielding your argument with "morals" is interesting. I already have a Belkin Vue case, however I will be (trying) to get the bumper when it's availability is announced. I say try because I was given a free bumper (and a free year of MobileMe) as compensation for having to return not 1, but 2 iPhone 4's due to yellow spots. I sold it on ebay the day the freebies were coming. Most people think that since that was a customer service issues I should still qualify for this bumper as well. We'll see.

Apple doesn't have feelings, it's a company. When the leader of said company offers up something as an "I'm sorry" sort of solution, it's intended to be received. It some cultures, refusing a gift is actually morally wrong and considered an insult.

If Apple offered you a free iPad for everyone's "issue" (which hasn't hindered my daily use) I am willing to bet your tune would be different. If assuming the forefront of ethical superiority keeps your sleep sound, go for it. I have no problem with others making their own choices; Just don't play Jesus as you do it.

Is it that way in our culture (assuming you're American)? Lets not pretend we live in some third world country where a father offers a cow as a gift to his new son-in-law.

Is it an "I'm sorry" gesture or is it an attempted fix for a specific problem that few people are having. You and I both know it's the later and clearly apple isn't going to argue with people whether or not they're being honest when they say their bars drop if they're on the john in the second bathroom on the first floor of their home.

Actually no, I wouldn't. I work hard and I'm rewarded nicely for what I do, but I've never asked for anything and I surely wouldn't take a hand out or take advantage of some big bad company just because I can. Like I said, if you have the reception issue, get the case. If you are one of the many who don't as I, then "I" don't feel right taking it.

If you have any Italian or Russian (which Im nearly half), you'd know that turning a gift down is calling it and its sender unworthy.

As far as you not accepting a Free iPad if it was given to you, well, you must be a peach at Christmas.

No, I will not apply for a free case. I have noticed an increase in the amount of dropped calls and do not have a case. Sure it's free and sure it may assist in decreasing attenuation, but I like my iPhone case/bumper free. I know there has been a lot of back and forth on whether or not there is a true design flaw. I think everyone's personal experience may vary and is biased based on their personal tolerance levels. My personal experience, I have seen an increase in dropped calls, and a handout intended to appease the masses, is not the fix for me.

I ordered a bumper with the iPhone at the initial release. So I wanted a bumper from the get go. I love the bumper for many reasons. And I have tested the reception and the bumper or some case would seem to be a necessity.

So I will be requesting my refund. $30 is $30. I could use the money.

For those that don't want there refund. Please file for the refund and give the money to a local charity. There are a lot of fine people out there that need the help...
