Nope. I've got a perfectly working previous gen 13" MBP. Sure I'd like the better graphics chip but don't care enough to sell my current one and buy the new one. Even the next iteration should offer something other than just speed increases for me to consider it because my current system runs everything I need just fine.

Nah, I wasn't expecting some Alienware killer GPU but I also wasn't expecting the already outdated junk they threw in the revisions, I'm tired of buying obsolete tech from Apple, the wait continues and I pretty much expect to be disappointed next time too.

This is the first time in a long time we've gotten a disappointment plus a price bump though, which is pretty retarded.

Not this time

I've got a 2007 white MacBook and have had cracked casing issues twice, so was looking to upgrade to a 13" MBP. However given that it's only a spec improvement I'm going to wait until it's something more significant to me.

My MacBook is fine for what I use it for, but I want a MBP for the durability. I don't want to get a 15" because that's too big for me.

Hopefully there will be a more feature rich change, rather than just specs. Such as removing the optical drive, thus making it noticably lighter, hdmi or other more physical features.

hi res anti glare

bought one the night it came out (1am in the morning here in aus). Got the high spec 15" with 8gb ram, high res anti glare and 7200rpm hdd.... Wish the GPU was better but i'll get what i can take :)

Same setup I plan to buy, curious about the hi res anti glare screen. Look good? MBP will be mostly for photography.
I'll swing by the local Apple store later today and hope they have one to look at, but always good to hear from the "real world".
Thanks,
L

no way!!! Apple expects us to pay well for quality but on its side, it counts pennies! They are trying to squeeze out the maximum out of its customers. 150USD for a matte screen!! It is not a question of affordability...but more a question of sensibility!

I think I now understand what Jobs meant when he spoke of the next level updates...he actually meant that the updates to the MBPs will take Apple to the next level in terms of profit!!!

Man...that is greedy!

I bought the base model 15 inch and swapped out the hard drive. I am underwhelmed, only because apple promises, and charges so much. But the computer is much better than my original core duo 15 inch, so I am still content. I will be buying windows 7 though, and try and learn to deal with it. If I can, and they develop good multimedia software options, then my next laptop will not be a mac, unless they become more competitive.

On order, waiting for delivery. Hi res glossy screen and SSD HD for me. Looking forward to the unpacking.

I'll definitely be purchasing one. I waited way too long to get one so it's long overdue. Does anybody know if you can buy a MBP through the apple developer connection store and not actually be a member of the developer program? I'm just wondering because I can make it all the way to the checkout in the developer store but I don't know if they will process it and reject it.

I took the plunge

I ordered my 13" MBP, but I did not order the "New" one I ordered the old one from powermax.com, which by the way they have the friendliest people at and seemed like the most helpful. I ordered the "old" version with a better processor speed, then the "new" one with the same setup. I don't play games and like how the other looked at the stores. Plus I save like a little over 400 bucks from not ordering from apple, free shipping and no sales tax. :D:cool::apple:

Before Macfans get all worked up just give it a rational read...

Got tired of waiting and ordered Envy 15. Saw the update and was jumping up and down with joy until I realized what you get in MBP for what you pay for.

Envy 15 -- $1484 (shipped:D)

i7-720qm (1.7 GHz quad core)
4GB (2x4GB @1333)
320GB HD (7200rpm)
ATI 5830
Ultrabright Screen (1080p),
2 USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0/eStata port combo
Great sound output (beats edition)

Only bad part is battery life which lasts you 2 hours.

I still tried to configure MBP and when I saw that they wanted me to pay $40 to upgrade to 7200 rpm drive on a PRO laptop ... i lost it. THAT'S JUST SUPER DUPER GREEDY OF APPLE.

I'm going to keep my ENVY

just ordered a 15" 2.4 MBP w/free printer from apple for a relative. right now, you can get a free printer via phone order, fyi.

Man...that is greedy!

I wrote to sjobs@apple.com about my displeasure of having to pay $150 dollars now for a matte screen and the reply was "the matte screen only costs $50 but it's only available on the $100 high res screen"...well duh, but I am still forced to pay $150 if I need a matte screen. Really shady to load it that way...and the fanboys say "you should be grateful they offer you the choice". If prices had stayed the same Apple would have gotten my money on Tuesday but now they won't. I know about 10 people who feel the same way so that's $17,000-25,000 lost because of greedy pricing (again the fanboy response is "Apple doesn't need your money"). I really don't understand the mentality.

Good luck to those going back to PC...

Well I had my Dell XPS16 for almost two weeks and was severely disappointed. I have organised a refund and will be buying a 17" MBP in place of it.

FYI the specs were as follows:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz, turbo up to 3.06GHz, 8MB L3 Cache)
Memory: 8GB (4GBx2) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Video Card: ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 - 1GB
Hard Drive: 500GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive
HD display 16.0"UltraSharp™ Full High Definition (1080p) RGBLED Display with TrueLife™

Why? Let's just say after having been a Mac user for almost a year now I found this machine to be very frustrating. The design and fit/finish quality was lacklustre and Windows load times were painstaking. Sure the display was nice, but that's the only thing I can speak highly of about this machine.

So in all honesty I marvel at some of the complaints people on this forum make. Sometimes it's worth shelling out a bit more for a machine that is well designed, operates smoothly, requires less maintenance (defragging, formatting, viruses, etc.) and comes with better customer care/support - 7 weeks for delivery on my Dell and no help from the offshore customer service f**kwits.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people jumping the gun on the speced PCs make the mistake I did and cower back to Mac with their tails between their legs. Be careful what you wish for people!

Well yes, but many are not. The thing is, it is not nearly as easy to list the benefits of a good build quality, as it is to slap out there a CPU/GPU model numbers. I understand why someone would be frustrated, but Apple is the way it is. There are other brands available out there, other than Apple. It is akin to complaining why the heck doesn't a BMW give someone a pick-up truck. Well, they're just not into that market segment. Same here.

Not anytime soon (seeing my 24" refurb iMac as perfect).

Honestly, I was at the 5th Avenue Apple store in NYC tonight and I played around with the white Macbook and the MBPs and the iPad, I still prefer the feel of the Macbook.

I'm not sure if the trackpad on the MBPs aren't broken in at these NYC apple stores or if the Macbooks' trackpad is just more responsive to my noob touch. This store still has all sizes of the MBP in stock.

So no, I'm going to wait awhile. But my next portable item from Apple will be a notebook of some kind, that much I know.

It's not like that at all. First of all BMW does not use internals that Hyundai used last year in their new models. THAT is more like what Apple does. Hyundai guts with BMW bodies and BMW prices...and then aggressive and clever marketing that convinces fans they are "better" if they have it.

One thing Apple IS doing that is similar to auto manufacturers is the "package" nonsense....if you want A/C you have to buy the leather seats etc...and if you want matte you have to buy the high res package. It's greedy nonsense.

i have a penryn 2.5ghz with 8600m and 4gb ram and 500g hd.

from benchmarks i've been seeing there is little advantage in upgrading.

I've upgraded from a White MB (2008) to a Unibody MB (2009) to my current 13" MBP (2009 when it came out) the last three years. I'm not seeing an added value in upgrading this year, so I just purchased AppleCare and will stick it out with this one. I don't need nor want anything bigger than a 13", even though I use it all day. The new 13" MBPs didn't really get a big enough upgrade to warrant the expense.

Thinking about it (srsly)

I'm looking pretty hard at the base 15". That with the hi-res matte screen is probably about the max I would be willing to part with. I know some people are dissapointed, but I think for my needs (graphic design, web dev, a little music-making just for fun) it will be fine. I have been itching for a mobile machine for awhile (the blackbook in my sig got sold to my roommate like 3 mo. after I bought it).

Not going to lie, the cost is a lot considering my budget, but I just don't think I will get as much use out of a Windows machine, though I am looking forward to playing with Windows 7 at some point. I have Vista on my iMac...definitely useful. Anyway, I have a freelance gig coming to a close at the end of this month that will pay for a new MBP. To save or to spend? That is my eternal struggle.
