I'm looking pretty hard at the base 15". That with the hi-res matte screen is probably about the max I would be willing to part with. I know some people are dissapointed, but I think for my needs (graphic design, web dev, a little music-making just for fun) it will be fine. I have been itching for a mobile machine for awhile (the blackbook in my sig got sold to my roommate like 3 mo. after I bought it).

Not going to lie, the cost is a lot considering my budget, but I just don't think I will get as much use out of a Windows machine, though I am looking forward to playing with Windows 7 at some point. I have Vista on my iMac...definitely useful. Anyway, I have a freelance gig coming to a close at the end of this month that will pay for a new MBP. To save or to spend? That is my eternal struggle.

if i were to buy one, which i won't, the low 15" with high res display is definitely the sweet spot. the benefits of extra vram and i7 would be unnoticeable in real life applications. this is actually surprising from apple, very little to differentiate the different models.

Your right, thats definitely the sweet spot. Im curious as to why Apple stuck with nvidia, maybe theres some form of legal obligation?

"Will you be buying a new Macbook Pro"?

OF COURSE!
After this long wait there is not many people that wont buy, some might wait but this is a good refresh IMO.

Probably not so much legal, rather more of a partnership deal IMO (see 320m).

Was feeling a bit nervous as to what the update would be, but I'm feeling happy that Apple failed to deliver :p Content with my c2d now :)

Well I had my Dell XPS16 for almost two weeks and was severely disappointed. I have organised a refund and will be buying a 17" MBP in place of it.

FYI the specs were as follows:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz, turbo up to 3.06GHz, 8MB L3 Cache)
Memory: 8GB (4GBx2) 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Video Card: ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 - 1GB
Hard Drive: 500GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive
HD display 16.0"UltraSharp™ Full High Definition (1080p) RGBLED Display with TrueLife™

Why? Let's just say after having been a Mac user for almost a year now I found this machine to be very frustrating. The design and fit/finish quality was lacklustre and Windows load times were painstaking. Sure the display was nice, but that's the only thing I can speak highly of about this machine.

So in all honesty I marvel at some of the complaints people on this forum make. Sometimes it's worth shelling out a bit more for a machine that is well designed, operates smoothly, requires less maintenance (defragging, formatting, viruses, etc.) and comes with better customer care/support - 7 weeks for delivery on my Dell and no help from the offshore customer service f**kwits.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people jumping the gun on the speced PCs make the mistake I did and cower back to Mac with their tails between their legs. Be careful what you wish for people!

I completely agree with you. I just sold my Mac Mini a few weeks ago and have a Thinkpad T61 for work. Of course the Thinkpad Series are very well designed, (talking about sturdiness, not design here) but Windows is such a big killer for me.

Coming from the Thinkpad I couldn't imagine pickung up a Dell or Acer notebook. I want something reliable over something cutting edge. I don't want to play games with my laptop, but rather edit some of the photos I take.

Of course you should also always think of the resale value. Apple computers don't drop as fast in value as windows machines do.

Just ordered my 13" Mbp and was very happy about the graphics update, because now I'll be able to play a few games while I'm out somewhere on a business trip. (not lan-gaming, but rather a round of Dragon Age)

I wanted to buy a low-end 15" with an antiglare screen but since the price increased 250,- Euros plus another 50,- Euro increase in there disgraceful must-squeeze-last-penny-out-of-european bogus charge (come on prices are almost 1:1 now, seriously?) I now went for the 13" basemodel. When I look at the first benchmarks I think I'm gonna be fine with it. The 10 hrs (or propably about 7 hrs, if you do anything with it) is a big bonus point for me as well, since I was planning to use thing not only at home.

Although I'm a little disappointed that they did not include a Core i5 in the 13" model, I'm not gonna wait another 10 month for a new model. Most likely I'll want a sandy bridge cpu then and I'm sure Apple won't deliver that either.

The main thing is that I can justify my purchase.

btw. already ordered a bigger hdd for it. If Apple seriously expects us to download all our media from the itunes store I really wonder why their hdd sizes are still that small.
