A book is a book. An ebook isn't a book if you look at the basic definition.

Sorry, but you're just plain wrong.

A book is a piece of long form text, and that's what maflynn was referring to when he decried hexonxonx's rejection of them. hexonxonx referred to 'books these days, paper, digital or otherwise' - so digital (e) books were definitely within the context of their discussion.

If by 'basic definition' you're referring to a dictionary such as Marriam Webster - then the electronic long form text that maflynn was referring to is satisfied by definitions 1c and 1d. In addition, the definition specifically includes 1g - eBook. You are factually incorrect by reference to this 'basic definition'.

Honestly, is the definition of a "book" worth arguing over?

Sort of like the difference between a "bulb" and a "lamp."

Hoever, my University's bookstore calls its online texts - textbooks.

Couldn't agree more. I just thought NathanMuir's post was unusually inane and ridiculous (even for him) and worthwhile calling him on.

I didn't even look at it.

#70?

It was a bit condescending, but certainly not the worst I've seen or encountered, both IRL and on forums. Maybe he's having a bad day? I dunno, either way, I usually let stuff like that slide in the interest of peace.
Even if I'm right.
