I want to ask Tim's wife to stop sleeping with him until Apple releases new MBP.

That's not going to work. He has no wife, he's gay, and while he might have a partner (he's very private, so nobody knows), he's also a workaholic. I don't think his work ethic is in question, just the need for such a veil of secrecy around Apple's products. As a business user I would like to see some kind of roadmap.

I'm currently on a 92-month-old late-2008 MBP running an old OS on an Intel C2D, upgraded to 8GB RAM. It works just fine, but sluggish. I was about to buy a new MBP when I saw the 2016 release was probably happening very soon. Since I'm upgrading all the way from Core 2 Duo, I couldn't care less about the difference between Skylake vs. its predecessor. TBH, the only reason I'm waiting for the new release is because I don't want to buy the current 2015 model at full price right now only to have the price drop after the new release. I'd much rather buy a reduced-price 2015.

That makes sense also.

Another perspective is to wait and get the new one to provide a greater amount of time that your machine will be supported with updates.

But, if you know that you will be buying the older model anyway, then it might be logical to just purchase the refurb now.

Prior models tend to go on the refurb sale page when a new model is released. My experience has been that Apple doesn't tend to reduce the refurb models price beyond its original refurb price.

So it's likely that the refurb price for the 2015 model will remain unchanged even after the 2016 model is released. I could be wrong. But typically that's the way it goes.

And of course, there is the question of whether Apple will release a 2016 model. Their entire product line is way past due, with some Macs not having been updated since 2013. So none of us really knows if and when new Macs might be released.

Everything at this point is speculation based on they need to do something soon. Either produce new machines, reduce prices of the obsolete line, or throw in the towel. Something....

October is beginning to look like a miss for a refresh. After November may as well wait till February or March as all the people who purchased for Christmas and the holidays will feel slighted.

I want a MBP with touch screen. The only option now seems to be to hack the Surface Pro 4.
Well, you want. Doesn't mean you would be happy. There's a reason why laptops don't have touch screens (except for fashion reasons), and the main reason is called "gorilla arm". You need to have arms like a gorilla to be able to use a touch screen all day :) I use my Mac completely with slight finger movements. Much less energy wasted than with a touch screen. And I don't get fingerprints on the screen.

And if my MacBook had a touch screen, what about the two monitors that I use?

I want to ask Tim's wife to stop sleeping with him until Apple releases new MBP.

I think a reality check is needed here :)

True. I've thought about that too. But I'll probably be in a position to upgrade again in a few years anyway.

This is very helpful! Based on this and similar comments on other threads, I went ahead and bought a refurbished 2015 yesterday :)

Hope you enjoy your new machine.

I've had a new MBP every year for the last 8 years. Apple just aren't innovating in the Mac space anymore. The rumoured all USB C connectors will be rubbish - more dongles to buy and lose, and the OLED strip looks like a gimmick. The only useful thing would be TouchID, but thats not exactly new on laptops. My 8 year old Thinkpad has a fingerprint reader.

I'm thinking of switching to a Surface Book. Windows 10 is a nice OS and I like the idea of a touchscreen and using the pen for note taking. I'm a big OSX fan, but just bored of the same old same old every year.

I went to a Microsoft Store to try out the Surface Book. I like the idea that the touch screen can be removed and acts like a tablet. This is convenience as I spend about 4 hours on bus/subway several days a week. However, it took long time to launch Adobe software without the keyboard (where GPU is located). When the tablet was merged with the keyboard, the performance was good enough. However, the overall weight was similar to a rMBP 15".

If I want something that has a large screen, 1kg or less, about 10 hours of battery life even I serve the internet often, what device do you recommend? This device might not be my main computer as I do 3D CAD. However, it could be used on days when I spend 3-4 hours on public transportation.

Microsoft is having an announcement on Oct 26, If I were in your shoes (and I am - I like the idea of a pen for photo editing) I'd pay attention to what they announce.

There isn't no such device it's that simple no one makes what you want the tech is not there yet.

I think the original question should have read;

"Given that Kaby Lake is just about to launch, will you truly be happy with a "new" Mac that will be a generation behind out of the box at a premium price?"

Let's be real here, Apple is never going to lower its price points even if you're getting a generation outdated tech.

Then again, hopefully Apple will be smart and announce Kaby lake updates (seems unlikely).

They aren't just about to launch, the Kabylake suitable for the 13 inch MacBook pros are at least 4-5 months away. There are no plans for a Kabylake with iris pro graphics that the 15 inch rMBP's use so it will be skylake until a canonlake update in 2017-2018 anyway, it's already 18 month since their last updates, they have to go for it now.

Processor updates are getting less and less important, and once we have tb3/usbC ports, ddr4ram and fin fet GPU's in apples products then the only thing to look forward to for 2 to 3 years is oled screens to be honest.

So enjoy this update and redesign it will be years before your new Mac will be worth replacing with anything new.

So, there will be no 4K screen on up-coming MBP?

So, there will be no 4K screen on up-coming MBP?

I doubt it, Apple don't give a crap about pixel count and go for the best all round quality with a pixel count appropriate for the size of the screen. I'm expecting calibrated p3 colour gamut panels like those used in the iMac but at the same pixel density as those currently used in the MacBook pros.

More pixels will bring diminishing returns in clarity at the 15 and 13 inch sizes and will put pressure on graphics cards needlessly lowering performance levels.

While Apple has been concentrating on iPhone and iPad which shoot 4K videos, they have no interest in selling laptop that can play back 4K videos?

I think I'm going to buy the new upcoming MBP.
I don't have a Problem with the missing Ports. 4x USB-C is ok. Sure, i need to buy an adapter, but you can find those on Amazon. It's not a big deal for me as a customer.

I like the idea, that Apple could push the industry forward to USB-C and set it up as the next standard.
But i have some other problems in Mind. The new MBP is going to be thinner. Ok, if the profile of the Laptop get's thinner, what else will shrink with it? Will the aluminum unibody getting thinner and more pressure sensitive? And battery life?

I would like to see a improvement in battery life, thanks to macOS Sierra.
I am currently a PC User and if i switch it would be my first Mac experience. I am exited for that.

:apple: love

All of their machines have been able to play 4K videos since 2013. Not at one to one pixels true but they will all play and edit 4K video.

If it is not one to one pixels true, how the Mac since 2013 they play and edit video in "real" 4K?

The MSI GT73VR Titan seems very nice. Too bad it does not run Mac OS. Do you think the upcoming rMBP will be more powerful than the MSI's?

I don't think so. These two are different maschines. The MSI's are in first place pure gaming Maschines. Macbook's (especially Macbook Pro's) are made for professionals and their work.
And there is the difference: While MSI is offering a lot of high end hardware to the customers (maybe even too much... no one needs 64GB of RAM in a Laptop for Gaming!!!), while apple focused on the tasks for Professionals.
The reason why the internals wouldn't as possible as in the MSI is simple. Apple is trying to cut out every unnesessary gramm of extra hardware so the professionals, can still get their work done (in most cases ;) I've read some posts with multiple VM's on a macbook).
So what i wanted to say:
No, i don't think we see that much horse power coming in the new Macbook Pro's, but they will serve the most of our needs very well, like they did it before.

Trust :apple: and wait 2 More Days.

The MSI's one may be better for 3D related professional work such as CAD.

1 more day for Microsoft's event and 2 more days for Apple's event. Need to decide this week.

I guess in the worse case, I may need to buy one lightweight Apple laptop for daily work and a powerful desktop for CAD and rendering. I need at least 16GB. My previous HP workstation Z-Series had 64GB. A bit overkill.

Things like AutoCAD should run on both machines fine. The both Macbook Pro's shouldn't have any problem with it.
The MSI maybe is a bit more powerfull in terms like RAM. So maybe the MSI Laptop handles CAD Software even better.
I don't see a laptop with 16GB of Ram struggleing an that, doesn't matter if Apple or Microsoft.
