Unfortunately no. I would love to buy a Smart case but I don't buy leather so I'll have to look for an alternative. I would like a slim front/back case, colors a bonus.

I'll be getting a black smart case and hope that it brings back the feeling of the original ipad apple case.

i was considering to get the iPad Air smart case until i saw the price. a definite no

It's because they are leather not the poly. I'm going to get the (RED) smart case just to protect my $600 investment. Plus if I buy a smart cover then a back case from Incipio or Casemate or somewhere it will cost the same once you add them together.

I'm hoping someone comes out with an leather apple smart cover. I don't want the polyurethane and love the apple leather smart cover for my ipad 3. I hate that it's a full case now.

$80 is ridiculous for a case, but this is apple people. I have the $50 case for my 4 and it's a great case. Thin and fits well. That being said, I returned my iPhone 5 S case within minutes because it wouldn't let me plug the phone into my clock radio using the lightning to 30 pin adapter.

I'll be buying a smart cover for my iPad.

$80 is rather ridiculous however as much as I'd love to complain about the outrageous price, I know at the end of the day I'd end up buying one. What can I say...I'm a sucker to Apple.

As mentioned above I hope the new cases bring the feel of the old Smart Cases. I had one on my iPad 4 and I enjoyed it. I'm a little weary on the leather aspect, however I'm sure it won't be too bad...right?

The Covers appear pointless in contrast to the cases.

"Here, buy a cover, then buy a half case for the back too".

So that means the price is about the same in the end.

What would you pick

Leather case
or plasic front and plastic back at the same price in total.

No brainer for me.

The big difference is that, with the cases, the cover isn't separable. At least with the cover and a rear case you can take the cover off completely when you want to. With the smart case, you have to fold the cover round the back.

What I'd ideally like is the smart cover and then just some protection film for the back, something like a clear sheet of the 3M film that Gelaskins use, just to provide scuff resistance when I put it down but without adding weight or bulk or hiding. Anyone know of such a product?

I'll be buying a case off Amazon....RooCase, Poetic, something from companies like them. Spending limit for a case is $25 to $30 for the iPad Air.

Neither. The smart cover obviously has no back protection, and I always end up taking off any cases I use on my devices... So I decided to buy a custom sleeve from Etsy for my iPad air instead. That way I can put my iPad in my bag without it getting scratched, and I can use my iPad without a bulky case.

I think I will. I'm liking this clear back cover from Speck (scroll down): http://www.speckproducts.com/ipad-case/ipad-air-mini-retina-cases

The best part about that case is the magnet on the back, so you can fling your Smart Cover open and it stays on the back without hanging down!

I'll probably pair it with a green or red Smart Cover. I'm not sold on the Smart Case. I've held some that my friends had and the way the sharp edges stick out looks cheap and feels uncomfortable. Though looking at the photos online, it looks like they _may_ have remedied this issue. Kind of hard to tell for certain.

Anyone have an iPad 1 with that black Apple case? Haha that thing was cool but also kind of a piece.

I just use a Smart Cover now, so I'll probably continue to do that. I like my iPad naked and I definitely don't want a Smart Cover that can't be removed a la Smart Case.

Judging from the product shots, the leather smart cover looks pretty sweet. I am considering getting a black one as I will be using my iPad air for work a lot, so no fun colours for me.
I will probably get it, I just hope the leather still looks good after heavy use.

I'll be getting a red smart cover. I'm just not sure if I'll go for the white/silver iPad Air or the space grey/black.

The leather smart cases look nice. If they're as nicely made as the iPhone 5S case, I'm probably in for a black one. The light colors are probably just as susceptible to discoloration as the iPhone cases.

The big questions for the Air case;

-How much does this thing weigh? Even a slim plastic back shell will add noticeable weight to a 9" iPad. And leather is weighty too. Shell and leather combined, it could easily reach a half pound.

-Has Apple finally added a magnetic fold back feature? The polyurethane smart case desperately needed this.

One of the big features of the Air is the weight. Sure hope the leather is light. It seems light on my Ip5s

Don't know of a specific such product for iPads, but I'm using a similar approach with my iPad 2 with SmartCover. You really don't need a film or protection over the entire rear surface of the iPad. All you need is something small in four locations near the corners so that it is stable when on a surface and the back doesn't get scratched. I used four small stick-on plastic "feet" that are readily available in hardware stores, etc. They come on a peel-off sheet, are transparent, and inexpensive. The ones I used are circular, about 10 mm diameter and 3 mm thick. They have worked very well now for over two years.

I tried a cover then a case for my 2 but ended up using neither for very long.

Nothing wrong with them but I bought a cheap TPU back cover just for protection and to make it easier to hold and have stuck with that. Will probably do the same when I get the Air.

I'll go with my usual combination for iPads...which is the Invisible Shield full body cover and an Apple Smart Cover. Considering a blue or green smart cover for a white & silver iPad Air. This way, the iPad is fully covered against scratches and I can simply click the cover on and off as desired.

I purchased a Skinit for the back of my iPad mini and then just the smart cover. I have a leather case to put it in for my purse.
