I upgrade my stuff every 3 years, this seems to be the best bang for my buck upgrade cycle. I've gone from the S2 -> S5 and will be getting the U2 when it's available.

I agree though, yearly upgrades aren't worth it and seem to be getting more and more incremental. My dad has a S8 and the jump from 8-9 is fairly minimal.

That sounds like a very reasonable upgrade schedule to me for both the watch and the phone, unless there's a feature that comes along that just blows you away as "must have."

The only thing I've been disappointed with by sticking to that is when a color/style comes along that I really like, but can't justify based on my upgrade schedule - or when they cruelly release a beautiful green iPhone 13 Pro Max six months after I bought one in my usual gray. 😭

No upgrade here. The only thing about the Ultra 2 that appealed was the new face that’s actually just a part of WatchOS 10. More than happy with the OG Ultra. I think it’ll take a design tweak before I consider an upgrade.

Yep, the Ultra 2 isn’t a bad watch - if I didn’t have an Ultra 1, I would consider it. In fact, it is an upgrade from anything other than an Ultra 1.

I have said it before, that maybe as we are on here and ‘enthusiasts’ we don’t see the bigger picture that you dont need to upgrade every year, or even every 2 years.

Agreed. There is no need unless you like to have the latest and greatest. And that’s fine too.

We all have different levels of interest. There’s no right or wrong. I had Ceramic, Hermès and Graphite SS Series 6 watches all at the same time, because I liked the different finishes. Once the Ultra came out I sold them all bar the Hermy, but that’s going too as I haven’t worn it for almost 8 months.

So I’m for sure an enthusiast. But it ebbs and flows. I may end up with a S10 if there’s a decent design change. We all find value in updates at different stages, for me it’s more in design/finish. For others it’s processors and sensors.

Good times 👌

I upgrade my watches every 3-4 years and my iPhones yearly. My Ultra has been the best Apple Watch I’ve owned to date.

I'm on an every-other year cycle over the last several years, though this year I could have sat this one out, but the iPhone's move to USB-C got me to upgrade my phone, and I finally caved to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (though I will keep my S7 Hermes for times when I want something more subdued).

I still cannot find any tracking for the watch. I have read a few others post that they had tracking coming from Indiana. if the watches are already here in the US, why are they waiting till Friday to deliver?

Friday is the official release day/date.
You’re just going to have to be patient

I have a 1st gen SE, and it's getting long in the tooth. I've been using my watch more and more and knew I needed an upgrade. At first I was going for the 9 but the more I thought about it, the more I felt the Ultra would be the better watch as I only upgrade every 3-4 years. The one thing I am sick of the most is managing the battery life, and obviously the Ultra has more battery life as well as having better battery longevity because it's not being charged as often. I also will feel freed up to use all of the features of the watch with a battery that big instead of worrying about if I'm going to drain the battery too fast if I have AOD on for example.

Verizon still has a few configurations of the AWU2 available for delivery on Friday, so I ordered mine with the navy trail loop.

I put myself on the same schedule with the 12PM, but decided this year to move to every year, and either trade in with Apple or sell my device to get the new one.

Yay! Just got a “label has been created” message in the UPS app. It says it is coming from Lebanon, TN. I’m not sure if this is for my watch or maybe my return kit for either my phone or watch?

I bought AW year over year from the original all the way to the Ultra...but I'm done now - the Ultra is great, and I was burned on S5-S7 with lackluster updates (Mostly just bought to switch case types/colors). I'll buy again once my ultra has battery issues (Which, with watchOS 10 so far, seems like it might be sooner rather than later...) or once Apple actually introduces new features.

I was going to wait also, but when I saw the $380 trade in value for my current Ultra, I decided to go ahead and update.

Yes to that. That's almost half of the original purchase price, which is unusually high IIRC. I saw that and ordered an Ultra 2, though I'm still a little on the fence about whether to go ahead and purchase it or cancel/return.

No, apple will replace batteries for pretty low $$, and nobody should really have a phone go below 85-90% within a year IMHO
The 14 series proved that many people had batteries that dipped under 90% and some were in the 80% range which to me is unacceptable for a 1 year old device. I had the same problem with my 12PM.

While it’s hard to actually quantify what “many” means in numbers of users, were it certainly a plurality or majority we would have heard more about it or seen some outcry and response from apple.

certainly, anyone having that sort of issue with a 1 yr old phone is going to raise the issue, complain, screen from the rooftops even, but I frankly doubt that its the norm or expectation from the MAJORITY of users. There are many things that can and do disproportionally lower the reported “remaining batter capacity” of a lithium ion cell. Some can be recovered, and some cannot. Apple has pretty well disclosed expectations for battery performance based on battery cycles and usage, and when things fall clearly outside of those levels they repair or replace. If someone is at or close to below 80% now, after only one year I say give it another 4-6 months and you’ll get a free repair or replacement from apple as it will have exceeded their minimal performance thresholds for the device.

It‘s a big upgrade over the Ultra 1. The Ultra 1 has the same chip as my Series 6. Hence why I refused to buy the Ultra 1.

It‘s the first time in years Apple came with a new chip, so the Ultra 2 will last waaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than the Ultra 1.

With the Series 7, 8 and Ultra 1, you were basically buying the same watch as my Series 6.

Anyone upgrading from ultra 1 to ultra 2?
I did. Why? I have no clue other than the fact that I just wanted something new. My AWU1 was nice and the battery life was amazing. However I just wanted to have something "new". I am less than 24 hours in and the watch faces mainly the new modular duo layout is pretty nice. The AWU1/2 are single handedly the best Apple Watches EVER in my personal opinion. There were some issues with Spectrum Mobile and apparently a few other carriers when it came to activating the watches but I finally got it up and running around 8pm eastern time here in Cleveland, Ohio. Love it so far!

Fortunately, that modular face is available on all AWU… 1 and 2.
