Is the Ultra speakers a lot louder than the regular watch? I can't remember any reviews/comments about the speaker, but maybe I just haven't paid attention because I never use the watch speaker myself.

It has two speakers and is 40% louder than a Series:

Change my mind from leaning no to purchasing one today, solely because the speakers on my series 7 is somewhat lacking. It’s OK, but my aging ears need better. 👍

I haven't seen the same claim for the Ultra 2 yet, but it seems to have the same speaker and mic array as the original Ultra, which was advertised as Dual Speakers, 40% louder than Series 8. Presumably that will be true of Ultra 2 as well.

Here's a comparison video including speaker comparison using the Ultra 1 and Series 8:

This is the first year I won’t have the newest watch.

I sold my Ultra a few days before the event for $850 (Canadian), mainly driven by the black titanium rumours. That never happened, but I was without my watch so I ordered the 2 anyway despite feeling a bit guilty about shelling out $400 to upgrade to a brightness boost.

I ended up coming across another Ultra for $650 locally, so I picked it up and cancelled my preorder. Funny enough the end result is being up $200 and having a fresh battery ultra.

Looking forward to the rumoured big X update next year.

my threshold to buy a new awu2 was so absolutely low that ANY upgrade wouldve triggered a purchase and apple still somehow managed to under-deliver.

all things equal, i value the awu1 higher due to the virgin titanium and dont view the awu2 as an "upgrade", its more like an awu1.5 if anything, A new chipset wont make a noticeable difference for me. At no point did i ever wish my awu was faster

the point of the post was that apple, imo, is going in the wrong direction at the cost of its customers. While awu didnt come in gold, their phones famously did, and i always purchased gold when it was an option. This years offerings for the awu2 andiphone 15 pm leave a lot to be desired. As for regular apple watches, theyre not even in consideration after owning an awu
Respectfully, I’m fascinated that you value “virgin titanium” more than you do a more advanced CPU. Those atoms have been around for billions of years - this isn’t their first rodeo. But to each their own, as they say, and it’s a good example of how companies have to deal with a wide variety of preferences.

Ditto! I’ll wager a bet that few on here have even heard of the term virgin titanium before.

Is the titanium in this year's ultra different from last years? The reviews I've seen said the two are visually indistinguishable.

Apparently it is. But it sounds like the so-called Titanium 5 alloy (which is a real thing) they're using is stronger than the pure titanium (Titanium 2) used in last year's model.

I did place an order for the Ultra 2, but managed to get the last original Ultra on my countries Amazon store for £650/$805 which I was pretty happy about, when it arrived the green alpine loop is every so slightly damaged.
Contacted Amazon to ask if they could swap the strap, however they offered me a partial refund instead, so I’ve ended up paying £520/$644!!!

Cancelled the Ultra 2.

Thanks for this -- interesting to know the difference.

Changing any post I made saying that because it didn’t come in black I’m not doing it. Hubby and I will be ordering two of them within the next few weeks

I used to think I wanted black too. I’ve come to love the color of the Ultra.
I’m just trying to decide which band to order with it! I like the look of the alpine loops (indigo or olive) or the grey green trail loop. Not sure!! I’d have to figure out what size on the alpine but I probably am medium

Don't discount the Ocean bands... they're my favorite (although I do have an indigo Alpine band on order).

I heard a theory that Apple did develop a black one (prototype at least) but decided not to release it because visually it looked even more massive/monolithic than the silver one. So maybe we‘ll only get a black one after the first re-design of the Ultra.

I actually own the midnight and white already ☺️ I absolutely love them! So I was just gonna pick up something else to add to the collection. I really want that light pink sport band tho.

Originally pre-ordered the Ultra 2 to upgrade Ultra 1 as I like to upgrade my yearly. However, after careful consideration and review, I decided it is not worth upgrading. Hence, I canceled the preorder. This is my first time not upgrading my watch yearly.
