I was planning on buying the Ultra 2 but just got a call from my local Rolex dealer that my Submariner Date is available after waiting on the list for 14 months.
Congrats on the Sub. Great watch although I prefer the no date version! I’ve been waiting for an OP41 - Blue and its been 7 months (longer than I thought it would take).

I usually upgrade watches annually, but not sure this year. I like the Apple Watch, but it’s gotten pretty boring for me so that’s why I bought an Ultra a few months ago (kept a S7 as well.)

99% yes. Being a daily runner and owning a S7, I was tempted to buy an Ultra 1 last year but resisted. This year I am on board. My dream would be a black Ultra 2 with a little bit better battery life than the Ultra 1. But action button, battery life of Ultra 1, design and screen are enough reasons for me already.
Same boat here and could not agree more!

The rumours suggest both devices are going to be very minor updates from last year anyway. Very dull indeed.
I know, I’ve been following the rumors for the last few weeks, and I’m still going to upgrade. With the horrendous summer I’ve had, I deserve some retail therapy, and why not purchase a new iPhone, as it’s the only expensive thing I buy yearly, except for the iPad mini 6 and iPad Pro I purchased in May this year.

It’s your money and yours to enjoy. The iPhone doesn’t do it for me the way it used to when each year it was exciting changes. I’d rather give my kids nice things and nice holidays and get a new iPhone every few years. We all have different spending priorities and things that make us happy.

I've been on the fence about upgrading from my 1st gen Ultra. Maybe I still will if I absolutely fall in love with the black version on the 2nd gen, but for now, I've decided that I'm not going to since I already decided that I'm going to upgrade my 14 PM to the 15 PM. Like I said though, this could all change once the AWU2 gets announced lol.

Agreed. The updates are way too incremental to be updating every year. Once upon a time when prices were consistent and resell value high, it was worth it. Now it isn't. There's another price hike due this year too. At the price of a Pro Max close to £1400, its clearly not a product to be changed every year in my view.
Some may say the Apple Upgrade Programme is worth it , but that's another con. Forced insurance and a hard credit check (it's effectively a personal loan) every year. Its just a bad deal.

I totally agree. I looked into iUP and the phone lease alone is more per month than my current iPhone on contract. By the time you add a sim, it’s close to £80 a month. Absolute rip off and all so people can rent a phone and swap it every 12 months.

In what way has it transformed your life? Health/fitness or other?

Health and fitness. I used to be over 120kg prior to getting it. I lost 50kg with it. Obviously, the watch itself was not the only reason. Exercise and diet and minimum 10k steps per day without fail. However, the watch was the tool that put it altogether for me (my workouts, my calorie count, steps etc.). My old watch would typically die before the day ended, and the Ultra lasted for basically 2 days without a charge.

I prefer the fit and feel of the regular series Apple Watch but would consider an Ultra if they (a) introduce an exclusive health feature which I want and (b) change the colour of the action button. I find it really ugly.

I've decided not-to and am going to go back to a normal Apple Watch model.

I had hoped the Ultra would replace my Suunto/Garmin for using on longer hill runs and some ultra races, but the battery life just isn't up to the long stuff compared with those other watches (which are absolutely insane now). I've also been playing about with the notifications and activity screens to try and get a good balance between day to day use v what I want to see on a run v battery life etc and just not got a good balance.

I think the biggest thing I don't like is the lack of physical buttons to scroll through screens when running. Even in dry weather, it's just too fiddly for me. There's a reason the most popular watches for this thing still have big buttons which are easy to press in all weathers and when you're sweating.

As a "smartwatch" its the best Apple Watch yet - it would be good to see some different colours and as much as I like the colours, the orange accents can make it look a bit weird with certain legacy AW straps. Battery life is really good; UI is snappy; GPS performance has been great etc.

That’s some extremely impressive weight loss! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I went from S7 to the Ultra because my S7 was not lasting a full day for me. Now the Ultra lasts for two days without me thinking about charging. And even if I forget to charge, a quick 15 minute top up lasts me the rest of my day. So no upgrade for me unless they radically change something like same battery but thinner casing.

Cheers bro - changed my life. I'm a totally different person now inside and out! To go from wearing XXXL to either medium or small (depending on the brand) is something I never thought I could do. The AWU really helped me get there. Does that mean I need toe AWU2? Absolutely not. I don't need it. But if they release a black one, am I getting it? Hell yes. I deserve it!

I keep going back and forth, as I have an AW6, and it’s showing its age. I wasn’t a watch person before wearing the Apple Watch, and I’m concerned by how chonky the Ultra has looked on some friends’ wrists. But the battery life, titanium shell, and scratch proof glass are big selling points. I should probably go to a store and try on an Ultra before having to make the decision.

I love hearing stories such as this. Thank you so much for sharing and congratulations! I agree -- you absolutely deserve the AWU2!

I have an ultra and the iphone 14 pro max. I will update the phone (I want the usb c charging and the zoom lens) though I don't normally do it each year (usually I wait 5 years and then do a big update of all my kit) and will probably do the watch at the same time just to keep the two synced. After that it will take one heck of an update to get me to update again within 5 years. After this update either any future watch update will provide huge battery improvements or their will have to be huge sensor changes (both wrt sensor additions and sensor accuracy) to get me to update again within the 5 years. The display technology is more than good enough. I like the size and weight and shape.

Why do people need this? Isn't it enough to drink when you feel thirsty?

You'd think so, but the six kidney stones I've endured in my life say otherwise.

At this point in time, I'm not sure a hydration sensor would help me though, since at least part of the reason that I exercise to the point of dehydration is walking five+ miles a day on a route devoid of bathrooms. With a prostate that seems to be aging faster than the rest of me, I don't want that five mile walk to turn into a four mile walk followed by a one mile sprint. Or even worse, a 3/4 mile sprint.
