I think if the Ultra offers nothing, like expected, I’m going to downgrade to the regular AW. While I think the AWU is the best smart watch ever made, its weight messes with my wrist.

If the 2 is somehow lighter, maybe, but otherwise I’ll sell the Ultra, get a regular AW, and see what comes around next year.

The weight is what makes it great, plus the size. Feels like and actual watch. But I agree, the price is not worth it for what it offers. I may also downgrade.

I can definitely respect this. The weight is noticeable when you’re doing average everyday stuff and not active in my opinion. For me I work from and workout occasionally. So while I’m home and working, playing with my puppy or cleaning up I barely notice it’s there. However, I can’t see myself going back to a non Ultra version. The battery life alone has spoiled me.

Okay, so no snickering but I still have the Series 4.

The bigger and brighter screen of the Ultra are tempting, but I think the slimmer non-Ultra watch is more appealing to me.

So far there hasn’t been one year where there was a big, compelling upgrade so I just keep waiting.

Battery life is still excellent on my Series 4!

I find a lot of my hesitation stems from the Apple Watch being a disposable piece of electronics with very limited resale value. As such, I have been happy to spend the bare minimum on the entry level aluminium sport model (I even went with a limited colour option for the nike band just so I didn't to buy a separate one), and upgrading every 3-4 years. The larger screen and longer battery life is nice, but I don't need the cellular capability.

I am really curious as to how well the more premium models sell (since they cost more but don't really offer any added functionality). Apple probably recognises this as well, hence the ultra watch (pay more for more features).

I have the S7 Ti model that back then in the 45mm version sold for $849 here in the US, so actually more than the Ultra when it was introduced. When I got the Ultra lat year Apple offered like $150-170 (can't remember) for my S7, which was like $20-30 more than a regular 7, so, the "premium" models loose far more in value compared to the All versions, no question. But the Ultra imho was/is very competitevely priced in the AW line-up.

This is a tough one. On the one hand, DLC-coated titanium would look killer (all of my previous Apple Watches have been DLC’d), but if all we’re getting is a processor bump it’s hard to justify upgrading from my current AWU (which I flat out love).

Now, if it turns out that WatchOS 10 gums up the works on the current processor, that might change things, but as it stands I’m leaning towards holding off until the so-called “Watch X” debuts.

Regards,
Adam

Absolutely, I will upgrade from my Apple Watch 7 to the ultra-2. Better antenna, Apple Pay, brighter screen, cellular, so I can keep my iPhone at home. Only downside is the camera or lack of.

you know that you can use Apple Pay on your 7 without cellular, right?

I bought an Ultra, used it for several months, then sold it. That gray Titanium watch was perfect for around the house but for going out in public it was just downright unattractive (at least in my eyes).

That said, I definitely miss that very long time between charges (I use an Apple Watch 7 right now).

If the rumors are true - meaning we should see a black anodized titanium Ultra, I'll probably buy the Ultra II. And with the even tighter nm technology we should see even better efficiency thus even longer times yet between charges.

Just got an ultra 1 today. But that’s because Amazon in my country has a flash sale offering it at 25% off retail price and my credit card is offering 15% cashback on purchases from eligible retailers. So it was quite a good deal that at this point I don’t care what the Ultra 2 has to offer, it actually ends up being cheaper than the 45 mm aluminum + cellular goes for here (and that one doesn’t have the discount, only the ultra)

Still enjoying my original Ultra. Like the black color but would like to see how durable it is. I will wait till they change/upgrade the Ultra before I buy again.

Hopefully Apple will be updating and optimizing the Watch software. In so many instances they fail to make the letters or number larger, even where there is plenty of room. They need to optimize for people with out 16 year old eye site.

Q to the Ultra 1 buyers here: ordering started right after the keynote, correct?

I can’t imagine why anybody with the gen 1 Ultra would be upgrading and those wanting an ultra should look at the discounts retailers are running now. John Lewis in the UK have nearly £200 off at the moment and they are going for around £500 on eBay. I wish it was a smaller watch personally.

The larger size was very likely to fit in the larger battery. There's really no getting around physics with regards to the longer battery life.
