I wouldn't worry about something that hasn't happened.
Look at when the ultra was released. That was the first major redesign of the watch since series 0. If they had ideas about changing the connector that would be when they would have done it.
Fair point about it not happening yet it’s very difficult to ignore the blatantly controlled leaks warning us about what is ahead.

They have had these so called 'leaks' for years. Just one example from last year before the ultra was released. https://www.theverge.com/2022/8/29/23326839/apple-watch-pro-rumors-band-compatibility-wearables

Another talking about the S7.

So today is the day and I can't await the event tonight. Got my credit card ready to order an Ultra 2.

You don‘t know this. I would go so far as to say Apple never does this. Secrecy is rule #1 there.

Exactly.
Thats a little naive, controlled leaks have been happening for years. You think (for example) all the leaks of price increases in the past didnt come from Apple to manage expectations??!

First of all, please link to „all the leaks of price increases“. Second of all, actually no, don‘t bother, because that wouldn‘t prove anything. I just believe that a) Apple doesn‘t need to „manage expectations“ because everyone already knows that Apple products aren’t cheap and b) those „leaks“ reach only those nerds like you and me who hang around websites like this one right here, i.e. 1% of Apple‘s customer base (if that); wouldn‘t be an efficient way to “manage expectations“, would it?

Apple would like nothing better than 0% of keynote info leaking beforehand, but with the huge supply chain they have today, it is just impossible.

So I have said on here a few times, no for me. I only bought my Ultra in May.

However, I do have a healthy Apple Balance (enough for an ultra) and a locked in price of £450 from MM for my Ultra 1, so if they do wow me later, I am ready.

I hate this site as it makes me change my mind from FOMO lol

Just want to say I’m now having doubts that Apple will abandon the existing band comparability with Watch X. They are releasing an entire new line of fine woven bands, why do this if the connector is rendered redundant the following year?!

Wait ‘til you find out they’re still selling Lightning accessories right now!

Interesting read for you. It’s old but same rules apply. The £999 price of the iPhone X for example was a controlled leak to set expectations, as was news of this years price hike and as was the price of the Vision Pro.
You see if you control the leak of an increased price , people will talk about it in the run up to the product reveal. By the time the product is revealed the increased price is old news and no longer is the story.

There’s a difference between continuing to sell lighting accessories and to launch a new line of Watch bands if you know the connector will be rendered obsolete for all forthcoming watches from the next year.
Big difference.
Then again this is all speculation.

Well, not only is that link/story quite old, but that guy claiming to have done stuff like this when he was at Apple may as well making it up to sound important/in-the-know. No risk for him either as Apple will never go out of their way to refute stuff like this.

If I take your most recent example, how do you square the fact that the „leaked“ (or in my opinion: guessed) price of the Vision Pro was 2999, but the announced price was 3499? How did it „manage expectations“ when the real price was even higher than the „leaked“ one (which already caused some consternation)?

Because a controlled leak merely sets an expectation, it doesn’t give you the precise details because of the reasons explained in that ‘old’ article I posted a link to.
If no one expected Vision Pro to cost circa 3K then all anyone would be talking about after the event is the price and not the features. This is marketing 101, and no it’s not limited to Apple so no need to be so hostile.

Sorry, didn‘t mean to appear hostile, but your reasoning still doesn‘t make much sense to me.

Vision Pro - like all tech, basically - was a story in the more mainstream press only after it was revealed and hence the price actually was a very big part of the coverage. So the „leaked“ price estimate did nothing to prevent this. Again, you and I and other tech enthusiast may have gotten their expectation managed beforehand, but we are just a rounding error in the vast pool of Apple‘s customer base.

Also, I don‘t know that „marketing 101“ really applies to Apple much. They march to the beat of their own drum more than anything else.

all speculation ... IF Apple "control leaked" a price for the visionPro, it would have been 4k, not 3k ...

Apple has stated multiple times over the past several years that they want to put a stop to leaks, there have ben multiple reports of firing employees who have "leaked", employees sign a document that is valid beyond employment to not reveal information, so any "leaker" claiming "while I worked st Apple" has no credibility for me.

The "leaked" S7 re-design was imho initiated by Apple, it silenced Prosser.
Kuo has his ties in the supply chain, that's much much harder to control, and in the past year or 2 his "leaks" quantity has gone down.
Gurman just guesses, I don't believe one bit that he gets information from actual Apple employees...

and back on topic/thread: I'll consider an Ultra2:
- new health sensor (blood pressure)
- Apple trade-in $350+
- AWU2 comes in space black with DLC

Edit: the trade in would be for my AWU

Sigh.
controlled leaks happen all the time.. ALL THE TIME. im Talking about Apples trusted relationship with certain journalists, not the Jon Prossers of this world.
Maybe you think I’m criticising apple hence the toxic hostile attitude of your response, but this is absolutely not an Apple thing.
Your claim that a controlled leak would speculate Vision pro being priced at 4k rather than 3 makes no sense, 3k still sets the expectation and if May be a ballpark figure because at that initial point they didn’t finalise a price. Testing the waters of response happens all the time. Again marketing 101.

“Toxic hostile attitude” - really??? Wow
