I am borrowing someone's Apple Watch Ultra today to see how it looks on my wrist before I buy an Ultra 2 next week. I've been wearing a 45mm Series 8.

I can't decide if it is too big for me or not.

Here is their Ultra on my wrist:

I mean, it looks fine to me. How does it feel on your wrist? That'd be the biggest thing for me. It doesn't matter if others think it looks weird or funny, what matters is that it fits you well and meets your needs.

I'm excited of the black rumor. I love the original Ultra but the color isn't really all that universal IMO. TBH, I was going to buy the original Ultra when it goes on sale, but after hearing there will be a black U2, I suppose I'm just going to shell the additional monies out. :)

It look fine to me. I have a 44mm S4, so upgrade to the Ultra, didn’t make it feel or look any bigger on my wrist. The screen is huge and brighter than my S4, so I was happy with that.

I love my ultra, but I’m definitely upgrading to the ultra 2 because I was never a great fan of the colour and if Apple are bringing out a dark titanium then I just won’t be able to resist it

How are you (and others) feeling about the prospect of a whole new redesign next year for the 10th anniversary, including a new band system? Kind of renders this years updates pointless, no?

Buy what you need when you actually need it, and trusting rumors that describe something 1+ years out in the future is rather pointless.
Need I bring up the claimed re-design of the S7?

A design update will stay for several years.

Well, the prospect of a new design is only a rumour at the moment. We have no idea what Apple’s plans are. I can’t really see how they can improve on the current band system as it works really well.

I’m using a stainless series 7. Still going strong with it so I will prob pass my stainless to my 13 year old and get the ultra 2. I’ve been curious for a while and love the way it looks. I’m on the fence about the colors tho. If the rumored black comes out I may be tempted even tho my phone and current Apple Watch are silver… I’ll have to see on Tuesday!

I don’t see a need to go from ultra 1 to 2. Unless color is that big of an issue but having used black titanium for a few years on my series 5 I welcome silver titanium. I like how it matches various band colors.

I’m not bothered by it at all. I am buying the Ultra 2 based off what it can do for me. Any potential redesign a year from now means nothing to me.

Eh, thinking about it. My 6 still does just fine on shorter (>10mi) runs, but the battery is below 80%, and the screen is scratched to hell and back, but otherwise it's working great. Budget isn't a concern.

I'll wait and see what the Ultra 2 offers before deciding. I generally like to keep tech going as long as possible...not a fan of upgrading unnecessarily.

Yeah, the biggest worry I've seen anyone float so far about the potential for a redesign is a vapid claim that new bands would no longer be compatible following this hypothetical redesign. Which is a silly thing to worry about, since the existing band market is mature now and wouldn't dry up overnight.

The only two things I'm willing to upgrade an Apple Watch for are battery life and new sensors/capabilities, the most important of which is the battery life. I don't see myself upgrading just for a new design, unless maybe Micro LED on Apple Watch becomes more than vaporware and vastly improves battery life. Given that Micro LED has been "coming to next year's watch, the year after at the latest" for nearly a decade, I'm not holding my breath there either.

I went to the Apple Store yesterday and tried on the Ultra. It wasn’t the additional weight that bothered me so much as how thick the watch component is. I was excited about getting an Ultra, but having worn it briefly (and having the arm of my hoodie getting caught on it repeatedly in that short time), it looks like I’ll be going for the 9 unless the Ultra has an unexpected spec change.

Well spoken and great points.

Well, of course even Apple would continue to sell old style bands, that’s not the concern.

The concern is that the 10 bands that I acquired over the years are now trash cause they don’t fit my new watch.

But do you really think I will ever again buy 10 addl bands knowing that those won’t be compatible a few years down the road?

Of course there are people who don’t buy additional bands and don’t care whereas there are some who have way more bands ( just look at the thread “every Apple Watch band ever released”

Double that and that’s my number, so I share your concern.
I think changing the band connector will kill the first party band market.

how much do you guys think the AWU1 would fetch for? I have seen in the $400 or so range.

I’m thinking of getting the second version depending on if the differences are truly worth it to me.

I wouldn’t seek the 1 until after I get the 2 though. very good condition.

Once version 2 goes up for ordering, version 1 should see a hit on resale. I think $325-$400.

I wouldn't worry about something that hasn't happened.
Look at when the ultra was released. That was the first major redesign of the watch since series 0. If they had ideas about changing the connector that would be when they would have done it.
