texts will sync if iPhone 5 is set up as new from iCloud?

No, they won't be. If you restore from an iCloud backup, yes. If you setup as new and sign into your iCloud account, no.

I'm still wondering if iCloud backup is the way to go. It shouldn't carry over any jailbreak data right?

I could care less about my iMessage and text messages.

I think I'm going to go with this guys option:

As far as I know, it does carry jailbreak data over, which it be from an iCloud backup or iTunes backup. Even though you said you don't care about them, iCloud & iTunes backups carry over iMessage and SMS logs.

I hate syncing apps through iTunes, trying to remember what apps I had and didn't have. I'm not worried about app data, I just hate dealing with syncing apps. That's the only reason I would restore from backup.

Just do a bunch of screenshots of your layout and you'll know which apps you had and what was in each folder.

I'm taking the " spring cleaning " route everyone has been talking about. I love to start fresh. Restoring from a back up to me makes it feel like my same old phone. I want to have to set everything up again as if I've never had an iPhone in my life. It feels good. Of course my contacts are synced with google and iCloud and my photos are on my computer.

Plus like many have said I have apps I never use and this is a good time to get rid of them in one big swoope.

So I'm still a little confused in going to set up as new and then on my actual phone I will log into iCloud and that will back up my contacts. Camera roll and bookmarks since that's what I have tabbed on for my back up. It will not keep setting and messages or carry over data. I tabbed off all the apps

same here, so I believe that when we set up our phones as "new" and log into the cloud; camera roll, bookmarks, and contacts will come back. Can any one clarify this further?

After reading reams and reams of posts on multiple websites/forums, I've concluded that I'm definitely restoring from backup with no worry at all.

It seems that, on the whole, people who did have problems (eg poor battery transfer from 4 to 4s etc) messed around with JB too much or had an inherent problem on their new device.

I realise I've probably jinxed myself, but as many have pointed out above, there's little to fear restoring from a backup and setting up as new is going to create needless work.

If I get an iPhone 5, I'd like to set it up as New. However, is there any way to do that, but also pull in the data that is stored with 3rd-party apps?

For example, I have a fitness app that keeps a lot of data related to my runs (heart rate, distance, date, etc.) and I'd like to retain it.

Is a full Restore the only way to keep that data? Or, can I selectively restore certain items or data?

So i set up as new when i plugged it into my computer, but then i signed into my iCloud account and it brought back my contacts and bookmarks! apps i then put myself from iTunes that i downloaded! i didn't back up app information to iCloud! that means nothing else got carried over right?

Im nervous

I got mine at work but all my "stuff" is on my computer at home so I Am sitting here with my new toy but cannot play with it. Why?

1. Nervous about setting up as new, restoring from B?u or restoring from iTunes. I want to keep all my texts, contacts, pics, old text messages, and all my apps that are currently on my iP4.

2. I am worried about activating it. I just know I will screw it up and it makes me feel better being right by my computer incase something goes wrong.

Stupid, I know but I just want to make sure I do it correctly.

I Am hoping it will spell out the process step by step very clearly because even though I LOVE technology and can use it well once set up, setting it up is not my strength.

I started a thread to ask this, but no replies, maybe here. Please. Thanks.

Setting up my new phone, I followed the prompts onscreen exactly, and started an iCloud restore from a backup of my iPhone 4. Looks like it will take a while to restore apps. Then I wondered when do I get to activate the phone? So I called AT&T and encountered voice prompts to activate. But after doing it, it said to turn off phone, wait five minutes, and power back on. If I do this will iCloud restore resume where I left off? (service on my iphone 4 stopped after I called and activated) I'm assuming if I power down I'll at least be able to start a restore from scratch, but I'd rather not have to.

Tmrw I'm getting home after being away working for 2 weeks.
I will be activating me new iPhone 5! :D

I used to have an ip4. Which I backed up, then sold. Then I borrowed my mates 3GS, which I restored with my 4 backup. The question is, should I set my new iPhone 5 up with this backup, or D'you reckon a fresh install is the way to go.......!? :confused:Thanks in advance. :D

Stuart.

Stuart.

depends if you don't have any data you want to keep may as well start new. people who backup have files they want to keep or apps they just dont want to re install.

either way you don't do any harm with either. you can't transfer any old data by backing up
