Ive been on every beta and plan to upgrade to the latest version. I agree with others who say iOS 6 feels outdated now...

I'm thinking on doing a clean install of 7.0.1... But damn, I love iOS 7 so I might update to 7.0 on day one.

What will you do? Update or stay on ios6 .Let me hear your decisions
Cheers

I will stay on iOS6 only because iOS7 doesn't support my 4th gen touch.

My wife's iPad retina with lightning connector? I'll make sure she upgrades on day one. :) I may even do it for her while she's at work.

Easy. I'm getting the 5S and enjoy iOS7 to it's full capacity and my 4S will stay w/ iOS 6 until a jb comes out. :)

Staying with iOS 6 because it's just faster.

iOS 7 animations are too much of an attention whore and take up too much time, versus 6's crisp, quick-to-the-point animations.

iOS 7 calendar app sucks ass. 6's is way better in every way.

iOS 7 draws more power from the hardware for the extra eyecandy (the whole transparency and parallax aspect, which I know you can turn off, but then the phone would look horrible) so it'll have worse battery life for sure. Not by much, but it's still a downside.

iOS 6 is more crisp and it feels like an OS that knows what it wants to accomplish in terms of looks and utility, whereas iOS 7 feels like a big bundle of concepts and a result of countless design meetings focused on "how cool can we make it look" and not so much "how usable can we make it," case in point being the calendar app. iOS 6 may not be as pretty, but its design is more decided upon and less beta-ish feeling. And I guess it's unfair to criticize iOS 7 for not being super polished; iOS 6 is the result of many years of refining the same UI, whereas 7 is a fresh one that's trying something new.

iOS 7 may look better in some areas, but I prefer the speed of 6. Every time I go from Beta 3, 4, 5, etc to iOS 6, I fall in love immediately with how fast the animations play. How fast the icons fall in place and how fast the show-off session with the animations ends. Regardless of how nice it might look, sometimes I need to whip out the phone and check for something quickly. iOS 6 is better for this because by the time you're ready to tap on the next thing, the phone's already done its showing off, whereas with iOS 7 I have to wait until the OS is done being "OoOoO look at my beautiful zooming in and out of apps."

Usability and consistency wins versus showing off and being basically a big piece of seemingly unfinished concept design. Beta or not, there's practically no reason for them to speed up the animations at all because it's a part of the new design "language" of smoothness and eyecandy. If they sped it up, it wouldn't fit with the rest of the OS's relaxed feel. iOS 6 feels admittedly more harsh and less "holding-your-hand" than iOS 7, but at least by the time you master it, you'll appreciate that it doesn't hold you down like iOS 7 does.

Another minor reason on the side, just for me (and maybe a few other people) is that I'd lose Gmail Exchange access and I'd be forced to use Google's rubbish Gmail app or that horrible Mailbox app that never sends push notifications properly.

Ios 7 it's like for little baby...

I think I'll stay on 6. I really hate the new UI. Those icons.. Those ******* icons and dock.

My iPad 3rd generation still performs great on iOS 6 so I don't think that device will be updated...

I'm still undecided about my iPad mini or iPhone 5 though. I may get the 5S for a taste of iOS 7 and keep my 5 on iOS 6. That badge on the settings icon will probably drive me crazy though. :p

I already kissed iOS 6 goodbye when Beta 1 was released. I'm not going back.

This.

Seems silly to not upgrade to me.. It's free and at the cutting edge of what Apple designers are working with..

Reminds me of all of the people still on Windows XP that refuse to upgrade because they're comfortable there.

Honestly if they made the whole system wide animations as fast as the photos app "photo zoom'" when tapping a photo, it would make a world of difference. Photos animate really really fast when you tap on them.

People, will you update to iOS 7 when its official, or will some stay on iOS 6?

Unless you plan on never updating your existing apps, or getting new ones, you have no choice. Eventually, most apps will be iOS7-only (imagine if you stayed on iOS5 - many apps no longer work well with iOS5). Google maps? IOS6+. YouTube? IOS6+

Besides, a recent survey showed that around half of developers are planning iOS7-only apps: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2013/08/05/study-finds-devs-ios-7-updates/

Will you update to iOS 7 when it is officially released?

When iOS 7 is officially released, will you be updating or will you be staying on iOS 6 or below?

A similar thread was created to this, however, it had no poll. Another user asked the OP to create a poll and it appears he isn't going to do so. It will be easier to track the results this way and I am interested in seeing them.

There's always JB apps to spoof iOS version.

You do consciously realize that the 7 requirement is there for API reasons and a ****** tweak made by some fat guy in the basement cannot replace experienced engineers work?

It doesn't feel outdate, simply different (but not necessarily in some sort of good or bad way).

I respectfully disagree. When I use iOS 6 now (e.g., on my wife's phone) it does feel outdated. It's just like when I occasionally turn on my old Palm Tungsten E2. Same feeling of "this was great in its day, but that was a long time ago."

I'm really excited to update my phone! But I'm not sure about my iPad. It already doesn't have enough RAM and loads iBooks at a speed that would be unacceptable even from my laptop and its HDD. I don't want to strain it even more. :/

Visually outdated? Perhaps, although I would say more like "dated" rather than "outdated". Functionality? I don't think that's really the case at all.

Mature reply. Most of the time the 7 requirement is there simply because it was only tested and is only supported (by documentation or technical support) on iOS7. The vast majority of the time, it's not because of some new API.

Also, looks like the fat guy in the basement did his homework because the version spoof always worked throughout the years.

Yeah, I wouldn't argue that iOS 6 is functionally outdated, as my old Palm Tungsten E2 clearly is. And if you prefer to say "dated" than "outdated," that's fine with me, too. I'm used to iOS 7 now, and to me it feels new and fresh. iOS 6 feels old, like going back to Windows XP after you've been using Windows 7 for a few years.

Functionally, of course, there's not much difference between them. Except for Control Center, they do pretty much the same things, even if iOS 7 does them differently (e.g., the app switcher and spotlight search). I would argue that where iOS 7 differs from iOS 6 (again, the app switcher and spotlight search are good examples) iOS 7 does it better, but that's obviously just my subjective opinion.

I'll update my iPhone but the iPad will stay on iOS 6 until there's an iOS 7 jailbreak. I need f.lux on my iPad for bedtime use. That's literally the only jailbreak tweak I use. Apple really needs to implement something akin to f.lux themselves, or at least make an exception and allow f.lux on the App Store. Such a critical tweak.
