In Spain all you hear is Nadal is the greatest. Period. I know he's a great player, but they put him in the Saint category (obviously he lost today because of his knee).

Anyways, it was nice to see Federer win so I don't have to hear about "KING NADAL" until the next tournament. I also believe Federer played a better game, so yeah, he deserved to win -- and I thought it was an exiting/great all around game.

i think Nadal way had won if he didn't hurt his leg, but Federer had a run for his money today:D

To anyone who hasn't seen either of them play before, it would seem like Nadal was really beating Federer up until the end of the 4th set. However, you always have to assume that Federer has that one extra level he can step up to and excel his game to win the important points.

@Silver-Fox: And Serena would've won Wimbledon if her left hand wasn't taped.

Experience always gives champions that extra boost at the end. I thought Nadal might pull it out. I don't know if his knee really bothered him, but Federer did what he had to do to win it. It was a great match to watch, though!

I wish it would've helped Henin out in her semifinal, although she still hasn't won here on grass.

lol i think that the Williams sisters had like a tactic not really to be injured, i saw serina yesterday and she got her leg bandaged etc and she was still spriting around the court, and then when she had the cup she was hobbling so i dunno fake?

yeah Henin in the final would have made that a better match by far, but still

Nadal has whipped Federer a few times (and I mean WHIPPED), and they always push each others' limits. This time, no, you never know about the knee, but if it was hurting that much he shouldn't have played -- one win is not worth a year of recuperation or your career.

Honestly, they've faced off so many times that the media always portrays them as the worst enemies. I'm surprised one of them hasn't pulled a Nancy Kerrigan so they can just finally decide for real who deserves number 1 seed.:p:eek:

It wasn't until the last set and the 5,6? game when Federer came back and then basically served 4 aces in a row to close up his serve that I felt the momentum of the game completely switch to his favor. Until then, I still thought Nadal was going to win (I was shuddering from thinking of the papers for the next month too until then :)).

Federer aced Nadal so many times in that match, i liked it when he got 4 aces in a row or something that was great serving, specially as Nadal had a break point as well

Federer is a beast on the serve. I think every time he's beaten Nadal, that's been a definitive factor. In Monaco, when he got WHIPPED, I think he only had like 6 aces all together.

Roger had at least 25 aces that match. I think Rafa had 1.

This was asked and discussed by the commentators during a rain delay during the first week of the tournament and I'd like to bring it up.

One-hand backhand vs. Two-hand backhand.

I personally favor and use a one-handed backhand. However, I usually play on hard courts. I played on clay a couple times this summer (and am again this week) and when the ball kicks up high, it's hard to do anything with it. People have thought that to win French, Federer needs a 2HB and to win Wimbledon, Rafa needs a 1HB... I don't think it matters that much though. Henin has won French 4 times with her beautiful 1HB and Lleyton Hewitt won Wimbledon with his 2HB.

Are you talking about Monaco? I've lost the track.
If so, that many really? Maybe I'm just remembering ones that actually mattered:eek:, or it was all overshadowed by the number of errors he committed that game.

EDIT: As much as I hate to admit it, Rafa looked pretty damm good on the grass today.

i think he got like 20 today unless you were talking about the 25 at wimbledon
i think that is what Federer relies on really, i mean Nadal was wooping him in the rally's

Sorry, I was talking about today's final at Wimbledon.

And yes, Nadal looked extremely good. Like Federer acknowledged, he is improving his grass game every year.

Just a side note, Federer was broken more times today than in the rest of the tournament.

yeah i know that is impressive, i did want Nadal to win though secrelty

I actually don't usually like Nadal. I felt myself wanting him to win today though; not sure why.

Maybe next year we'll see Federer win French and Rafa will Wimbledon. :D

No need to be ashamed of that. :)

@psycoswimmer
I've played tennis I think 3 times in my life, and I couldn't tell you squat about BH, but I'll totally buy into what you said.

Federer, the last few times they faced off, has just been hitting some crazy BH shots that fly straight into the crowd, way off course, like it was a weird shot he couldn't handle. I swear you'll see a few of those per game, but Federer has been hitting 20 at least per match.

speaking of winning, how s*(t is Tim Henman, i did want Murray to play, he actually beat Federer on grass

His 90 sq. inch racquet couldn't have anything to do with that.

I kind of feel bad for Henman, but he's not going to win. More power to him to keep on trying though.

Maybe Murray can pull up another upset like last year during the summer hard court season (U.S. Open Series).

i think i heard some where that murray is still badly injured and he has more on his delay for when he comes back and plays, so this will effect his training so i dont know how he will play at the U.S open

And there we have it. A British Wimbledon champion. The first in what must be at least 20 years. OK, it's not in the singles, but we'll take it :D
