I have the usb plugged in but i don't have the windows dvd and the mac's superdrive is busted so that's not an option for me sadly :(

OK, get back to me when you get a legitimate copy of Windows 7, and the keycode that goes with it. I'll walk you through all the steps.:p

I don't think I'll be buying the Windows 7 DVD. I have the original ISO that I got for dreamspark back when I was in college.

Hi sorry if I can ask in this thread, I have a few questions.

I own a MacPro 5.1 and on OSX 10.8.5 soon to be upgrading to 10.10

And now OSX 10.11, I am so behind, I am sorry I don't follow technology constantly all the time and am out of the loop.

Regarding windows 10, I have a plan to install windows 10 on a separate hard drive using one of the internal bays.

A hard drive like this
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2tb-...4000-512n-24x7-use-35-7200rpm-sata-64mb-cache

If there was other options I may do that, I am not sure what other hard drives to look at or an SSD options but I don't think that will go in one of the internal bays. For me 7200rpm hard drive seems okay I then want to install windows 10 using a USB stick using bootcamp on the hard drive.

From what I understand bootcamp is not going work with a 5.1 Mac Pro is this correct?

Though others have got windows working, so it is possible, if I am installing windows 10 on a clean hard drive why would I have issues installing it on my MacPro 5.1? the drivers? bootcamp it self?

On one thread it says bootcamp 6 no support for systems before 2012, if there is no support what does that actually mean for someone like me who uses a Macpro 5.1

What about if one installed windows 7 on a hard drive via bootcamp that is still supported pre 2012 and then upgraded to windows 10 would that cause complications?

Can anyone see anything wrong with current plan of buying a hard drive and installing windows 10 on that hard drive? If I cannot use bootcamp 6 what bootcamp could one use?

Sorry to ask in this thread I created a thread but it seems this question has already been asked in this thread and possibly other threads.

I used an Apple G4 for nearly 10 years it worked great, only needed to change the RAM once, for me that is why I upgraded to a Mac pro, I wanted that reliability. In retrospective it is a high probability that I might of done things differently but I cannot say, as so many things in technology change all the time I cannot keep up.

I hope I can install windows on a mac pro 5.1 others seem to have been able so I hope this is so. Are there any procedures I need to follow or look at?

If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Thanks

I mean to ask will running a mid 2010 5.1 macpro desktop with OSX 10.10 with a dedicated hard drive be able to install windows 10 (USB) on a mid 2010 5.1 macpro desktop with OSX 10.10?

From what I read a week ago the new boot camp does not support macs before 2012.... so with that thought how can I install WIN10 (USB) on a hard drive without the support from bootcamp? is there other options?

I would also like to know what does that mean to have no support from bootcamp on my mac?

This thread the person answers saying WIN10 works fine on 2010 mac pro even if bootcamp is not supported
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/windows-10-on-2010-mac-pro.1889661/

So I will try to use bootcamp and install WIN10 on a dedicated drive.

This is another's thread/situation i understand but is similar to mine having 2010 macs, so that is why I have asked.

It does seem I have my answer and that WIN10 does work on a mid 2010 macpro so we will see I guess

Is this more clear?

Windows 10 will work on a MacBook Pro. I upgraded my Windows 7, to 10, with no problems.

You probably read that Apple released a new set of drivers (Bootcamp 6) to specifically support Windows 10.
Since Apple doesn't support Windows 10 on anything before 2012, the driver package itself won't install on those older machines without a little modification.
That doesn't mean that Windows 10 can't be installed on those older machines and that doesn't mean that those older machines that have earlier versions of Windows can't be upgraded to 10.

My MacBook Pro is mid-2010. I had Windows 7 on the partition. When i received the message to upgrade to Windows 10, i did. No special drivers, no special anything. I'm running Windows 10 with absolutely NO problems. I'll admit that i was a little nervous at first, but i just followed the instructions, and let the machine do it's work. About two hours, from start to finish, with no effects at all to the Mac side.:p

Hi, I need help installing Windows specifically, Windows 10 on Macbook. I'm new in using boot camp and installing Windows on Mac. I have a Macbook White 13" Mid-2010 Unibody. I found that the latest Boot Camp Assistant version (6 and 6.1) doesn't support Macbook mid-2010. So what version can I use to install it on my Macbook? Does Boot Camp version 5.1 officially support my Macbook?

I'm planning to install first Windows 7 (I don't know what Boot camp version should I use? Help please?) and then upgrade from there to Windows 10 (thru Windows install process). Will this plan of mine work? Or is there a better way to install/upgrade to Windows 10? Will you guide me please? Thanks in advance.

This procedure (except you can install Windows 32 Bit or 64Bit): https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...009-a1283-with-2gb-ram.1935171/#post-23819284

Thank you for your suggestion! I will look into it, thanks again! :)

update: I'm using OS X 10.12 (macOS Sierra) on my Macbook Mid 2010. I found out that my current version of Boot camp installed is the latest 6.1 version. So do I have to delete the current Boot camp version and download then install a previous version of Boot camp? Or can I use the current Boot camp 6.1 version to get Windows 7 then upgrade to Windows 10 using MS Upgrade assistant without any problems?

According to the 10.12.2 release notes they added support back for Windows 7 on MacBooks that support it.

So, if after I successfully install Windows 7 on my Macbook mid-2010, will I be able to upgrade to Windows 10 using only Windows 10 Upgrade Tool (similar to upgrading to Win 10 on a normal/ordinary Windows computer)? o_O ?

Did you installed the BootCamp drivers? Then yes, upgrade to Windows 10.

I'm currently installing Windows now. My main issue was "the installer disk could not be found". It took me a long time trying to solve the problem by feeding my windows cd installer to no avail until I searched online that using Daemon tools to mount Windows ISO file will help get past that warning message on Boot Camp. I hope my first time installation of Windows in my Macbook will work out right. :)

Eidt/update: After I installed Windows 10, am I free to install Windows 10 updates or should I never touch any Windows 10 updates since it may affect my existing drivers, files, etc.? I'm afraid it will result into a lot of errors since I'm jsing an unsupported mac?

Stick with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Windows 10 has a lot of Call Home/Telemetry features.

You can update Windows 10 just normal. Will not affect boot camp drivers.

I forgot the workaround for Apple HFS support: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-pro-from-nonactivated.1984874/#post-23170924

I am running W10 Pro on a mid 2010 13" MBP with 8 GB RAM and 480 GB SSD for 6 weeks now. Everything is fine.

I am running w10 pro on a MacBook Pro 13.3 (mid 2010), core 2 duo, model a1278, and everything is working, except: sound, function keys, keyboard
Before, I installed MacOS Mojave using the tips from Dude1, and everything worked. So, I created the boot camp using a ISO from W10 May Update, the latest, and now some drivers aren’t working.
Could anybody help me? What version of Boot Camp should I install?
