I almost forgot this. Yes, BootCamp 5 under Windows 10 can screw up your hard drive.

The reason is the BootCamp 5 "applehfs.sys" driver, which does not work in Windows 10. It also causes other errors with Windows 10.

To overcome the issue, disable this driver after BootCamp 5 installation and use the free Paragon HFS+ driver for Windows 8/8.1 instead. As a benefit, you will have read and write access to the HFS+ filesystems using the Paragon driver.

I still have the bootcamp installation files on a usb drive. I've double checked, and there's no file named "applehfs.sys". I can download the paragon hfs+driver from the internet, but adding that file to the bootcamp intallation might really mess things up.

The applehfs.sys driver will be installed together with BootCamp 5. You can disable it with the Microsoft tool "Autorun" ( execute it as an Administrator ), which needs to be downloaded from MS.

Every website that i'm on sends me emails when someone responds to my posts. Every website, except this one. I'm not moving my computer to another part of my house, and away from my router, just to see if i've gotten an answer to a question. Waiting for an answer from this forum, i'm effectively housebound, as i never get an email answer from MacRumors on my phone. I want to thank everyone who's trying to help me, but i'm going to hold off on this windows 10 thing, until this website gets it act together. Semper Fi.;)

To be honest I never have to deal with "applehfs.sys" driver... Never heard about that... and I have BootCamp software installed.
I just hit Upgrade Windows 10 and that's it! After a couple of weeks I made a clean install. I clicked skip the first time when asked for the key. After finishing install it just automatically activated. My guess is because my Mac is already registered in Microsoft servers with my Windows 8.1 key when I upgraded to Windows 10.

Once you upgrade from an activated copy of Windows 7 or 8(.1) the computer will automatically activate Windows 10 in the future on clean installs. Saves you from having to upgrade multiple times. Less honest people can end up with a legit copy of Windows 10 by using hacks to activate older Windows versions and then upgrading.

Ohh that's why! now makes sense! Thanks for the info! Much easier that way than searching for Windows keys. But I have genuine Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and now 10 anyway, because I could get them for free from my University, as I'm student
Well, I guess a lot of "less honest" people will approach that way of upgrading :D

Mine is registered with my Windows 7 key, so i should be good to go.:p

Did you do your upgrade from the Mac side, or the Windows side?

All upgrade was done in Windows. Didn't touched my OS X, apart of creating the hard drive partition and downloading BootCamp drivers to the USB disk.

EDIT: just go for it. All the process are exactly the same like installing Windows 7 or 8 in BootCamp. Nothing changed. ;)

Clicked on the download, but they said that i was on a waiting list for Windows 10.:p

I was never 'invited' or registered' or anything else. I just went to the download site and downloaded it. I should have made an iso image on a usb - but I messed that up somehow and installed directly from the website.

OK, so i'm going to start this process with a blank USB(thumb drive) plugged into the computer?o_O

You can upgrade and it will run perfectly. I´m typing this from a MBP mid 2010 13" using Windows 10 Pro.

My MBP has a 2.66 GHZ C2D, 8 GB RAM and a SSD, W10 and the applications are performing fast.

However, updating will not be as easy as just run the W10 upgrade. The MBP is not supported by Apple to run Windows 10, so expect some manual work to do the upgrade. If you are willing to invest a little bit time and do a clean install AFTER the initial W10 upgrade, go for it !

Hi, I know this is off topic but could you help me with installing windows 7 on my macbook? I have the exact same one as yours (mid 2010) with the only difference being the HDD instead of the SSD.
Thanks!

I do, yes.

Use a blank USB(thumb drive), plug it in to your Mac(stay on the Mac side), open up disk utility and format the thumb drive to "exfat32". Then open up BootCamp, and follow directions from there. I have a windows 5.1 driver file if you need it(i used it to connect to my wifi), but i don't think you will. Whole process takes about an hour. Good luck.:p

I was able to make the USB using bootcamp, however I got stuck when the mac rebooted and the ominous 'No bootable disk' error showed up
I am currently following this https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...mac-osx-without-optical-drive-or-usb.1836959/ guide.

At that point, you're supposed to insert the Windows 7 installation disk. That is the bootable disk. Keep working at it, you'll get it.:p
I have the usb plugged in but i don't have the windows dvd and the mac's superdrive is busted so that's not an option for me sadly :(
