“Despite Apple's best intentions, the experience of running iOS apps on Apple silicon Macs has been rough”

The easiest solution for this would be a touch based Mac. But we all know that ain’t happening anytime soon.

No word on multi-silicon support. This does not bode well for wanting all operating systems on an Apple Mx machine.

ARM support is part of Windows 11. Microsoft has mentioned in their system requirements a "compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)" and "with 2 or more cores." Intel and AMD's names are omitted directly, but X86 will be supported. Microsoft is currently developing their own ARM chip to utilize in the Surface line.

Interesting.
Will Windows 11 run on Apple Silicon? That is the bigger question imho
I think this implies that it will: "1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)"

The more important question is will Microsoft LICENSE the d*mn OS.

Guess I'm the only one to actually watch the keynote. It was a direct attack on Apple and anyone on this site should watch it because you will catch the jabs pretty easily.

Microsoft store will charge ZERO commissions if a developer wants to bring their own commerce back-end to sell their apps on the Windows Store.

Multiple stabs at user and developer choice.

apple only charge on digital item purchase only

Thanks, and yes, I agree on the licensing part.
On the SOC part, there is still active rumor that MSFT is designing their own, so it will be very interesting how the future will unfold…

1) That's cool and all, but Microsoft can't even figure out how to do a reliable livestream so I gave up on trying to watch it. Classic Microsoft. This is why I stick with Macs and other Apple products.
2) If you thought Apple's keynotes were over the top, they don't hold a candle to the cheesiness of the Microsoft keynote. Gag me.

Macos and iOS has not changed even last year the slight re design wasn’t big enough, this year the iOS and macos is so minor I think it’s time to get more excited over windows I never thought I would say that
So you just want change every year?
Man, I like the design and I think they do not need to update it every year. Just stick with it for a couple of years and focus on other things. Then come back and do a nice modern overhaul.

Oh God could this get any worse!! Microsoft partnering with AMAZON to run Android apps on Windows.. talk about a recipe for disaster!!! MS must really hate Google right now lol. I would absolutely not run anything out of the Amazon app store, this is just a fail from the start!!!!!!!

Does Microsoft charge 30% on any purchase.

Nope. Developers can keep up to 100% of purchase amount unlike with Apple

Microsoft executive Panos Panay drew a contrast on Thursday with other app stores during the Windows 11 launch. On the Windows Store, he said, developers can use Microsoft’s payment processor (“commerce engine”), which takes a 12% fee from purchases. Or, he said, developers can use their own payment processor and keep 100% of purchases.

I think they did it because macOS moved to version 11. Its just marketing competition.
I do not think so.

macOS 11 was unveiled one year ago. macOS 12 was unveiled this year. Should Microsoft want to catch up in terms of numbering, it would have already released Windows 11. Plus, Microsoft releases a Windows version with different numbering every 5 years or so, while Apple releases a new version of macOS every year. There is no way Microsoft would ever keep ahead if it keeps its release schedule.

Plus, Windows has a market share of over 90%. Windows is widely used by companies that need the kind of support and compatibility it offers, and consumers who would never be able to afford a Mac.

Microsoft is probably not worried about macOS.

What a mistake. Android apps are poor, and Android “tablet” apps (which would make the most sense to use on a desktop) are outright terrible.

Frankly, even iOS apps on M1 macOS wasn’t even a good idea.

Agree, but don't you think Apple went this route because of the realization they had a dwindling number of software apps being developed for their platform?
By claiming it can run the whole iOS library of apps, it gives them that immediate boost -- even if in reality, it's not all that useful for people in most cases.

Moviefone: Why don’t you just tell me how insecure you want your operating system!?!?!

Microsoft: Hold my beer, my wings and my onion rings!

“Today, we’re introducing The Brand New, All Different Android Craptacular to Windows 11! We hope you like it!”

Yes because MacOS, so secure. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/19/app...t-level-of-mac-malware-is-not-acceptable.html EVEN APPLE admits it is not.

What distortion field are some of you living in. Mind boggling.

We get it. Macrumors, Apple good, everyone else, so very bad. Why? Buh buh buh, bcuz!
