it should work. at least i know it works on my friend mba.

did you install the bootcamp driver properly?

Maybe because I installed it over Win 7 from within windows?

I also tried RE-installing the drivers but that hasn't helped.

clean install or upgrade?
as for as i know, clean install doesn't result in the issue.
never try upgrading.

perhaps it wasn't "clean" when you try to re-install

longest I've been running w/o a freeze today.

also - made another run at the new Nvidia drivers and today they worked. maybe the freeze workaround helped?

plugging along...

longest run but did it freeze up at the end? which nvidia driver?

Has anyone had any issues accessing the Boot Camp Control Panel? I can't access it and I get this error:

no freezes in 2 days now. much better than it has been to date.

latest drivers from the Nvidia web site. at first the installer was complaining that it couldn't find compatible hardware, but now it does work and installs updated drivers (Win8 x64).

did you run as admin?

Privileges are not the issue - the error Apple throws is incorrect.

This happens on any apple hardware where AHCI is enabled... Whether you hack it into an older machine or simply use one of the new machines where APPLE THEMSELVES HAVE ENABLED AHCI.

It is an oversight on Apple's developer's part - they need to properly rewrite the boot camp control panel to be AHCI aware.

The Windows 8 RP had random hang issues? I never noti

it really depend.

but the issue is there since microsoft had openly admit that it does hang.

if you seen the introduction video for microsoft surface, during the presentation the microsoft surface hang as well. and i believe it is the same problem that we are all talking about. the whole surface just went unresponsive and you need to force reboot

That went right over your head, man (though admittedly it was a pretty lame joke). :p

From what I read, it looks like it's only an issue with the Bridge line of Intel CPUs. Since I'm running Win8 on an i7-920 and an even older Opteron 185, it wouldn't be an issue for me.

I do wonder though, is the finalized Windows 8 GUI going to be available in the RTM? I assume so, since that's the copy the OEMs get, but MS seems to want to keep the final design a secret until the absolute last minute.

by GUI, i assume you are referring to metro. RTM wil be the finalized version as it has always been that case. there shouldn't be much changes from release preview in term of UI after all they had already gear developers toward the same flow of UI. but might change could be the underlying performance.

what will change from release preview is the native app such as People, Messaging hub. those native app is practically incomplete at release preview.
i know that since i uses windows phone and the hubs on the phone works way better.

Me nei

;-p

but it definitely was happening with my ol' MBPro (which luckily appears to have made the cut with Mountain Lion). When I get the chance I'll load this up and undo the earlier fix (that did fix things for me) and see what happens.

well installed all the patches, turned the ticks back on, and now I'm back to freezing. try again MS...

Apparently the fix is for people having problems with running Windows 8 on the Ivy and Sandy Bridge chipsets. However, I'm on a C2D system so I don't think the patch will apply to me.

However, Windows 8 runs flawlessly on my C2D desktop. Could it be something specific that Apple has done/has to do?

it not just about mac. non-mac pc get same issue. tried the update on one of the sandy bridge laptop without disabling tick, it freeze as well.

i won't bother to try anything from now until RTM is release.
